On older cars, only material was used, no foam. Perforated leather, canvas, etc. Even on older VWs this didn't happen, VW Beetle, Golf Mk1, Mk2. Since the generation of the Golf Mk3, material with foam has been used and after a certain time the foam burns and the canvas starts to separate and hang. That's the problem.
