I had exactly the same problem with my Phaeton 2003 v6,3.2 petrol,i buy it new batteries varta 95 ah and all problems disappears ,the car is amazing but some issues appears efter some years,still is the best car i ever owned!🤗😊
After going trough this issue for 1 year ... Dealing with authorized VW mechanics ... Gave up and change Phaeton to V70 Volvo... Was a lovely ride but lack of competent service workshop in my area made my decision. There is many reasons of this issue with the AGM battery search forums, we are not the only once.
Hi All I have a 2004 Phaeton and it started to do some strange things Like showing warning about cars level system with beeping alarm ,I changed the leisure battery the one on the left when standing at the back of the car looking forward .and Yeah all sorted itself out I forgot the windows opened by themselves as well now everything is fine the Battery was £100 pounds but worth it Barry
This issue is resolved with a new battery, the left battery is called VPS, and is the culprit of many problems. To investigate problems on a VW Phaeton you need to buy a VCDS scan tool. All DTC's can then be read and erased for further problem solving.
Please can you give me an advice. I have changed the left battery twice, in a short period. It discharged if I dont use the car for 24 hour. If I use it , its like self charged. The mecanic cant find the problem

If U replacing new battery then use only factory AGM recommended battery s and replace both them.AGM so much differtent than well known fluid acid ones.Check amperage, cranking data etc.If U reconnecting battery leads U need after that reprogram lots of things there..doors, sunroof, steering column etc.Car itself adjust charging voltage and direction similiar like bem code agm s.But there wrong battery then starts tinky winky carneval.U can replace every day brand new one few days and carneval starts again.NOTICE.Check starter cranking amperage voltage and also resistance increasing temperature.Big engines espes diesel ones if starter end bearing already bad and hard crank this causes lots of problemes with sensitive electronics, also it kills body ecu,radios relays etc.Well known low end compressor burn relay sample.Overheating stuff.
its your VPS battery needs replacing. the reason why it starts when you turn the key to the left to the right then left again is because you are connecting the 2 battery's together
Hi lads, I know it's been a while since problem with battery occurred but I wonder if anyone sorted his problem? I live in Ireland and for last three years I couldn't fine even one competent person, spent thousands trying to fix and got to the stage I stripped entire car to find problem. Dislocated grommets on passenger's footwell, kessy module flooded same as earthing connections. After fixing it I'm still not getting recommended 14.5-14.6V on AGM battery. It is genuine VW AGM battery I installed nearly year ago. Any idea welcome. starter battery is getting 14.6, AGM 13.2-13.5V which I know is not enough. Regards
13.5-13.8 is a regular voltage for left side battery charging on phaeton AGM, right side battery is charged through DC-DC that raises voltage for regular acid battery. Make sure you charge LHbattery at least once in two weeks if you have a lot short distance runs and/or webasto usage as a parking heater - that is said in instruction for the car. Also known issues with drowned kessy and drowned ex door handles that eat lhbattery, multimedia that never asleep drains your battery as well
Have exactly the same problem. All is fixed with a new battery, only my front is still low and I still get the "jack mode" or "can't change level" of "level fault" warnings on my dashboard. Is there anyway to hard reset the suspension?
This battery has very high performance specification, and it is a strong recommendation to buy one from a VW-dealer. If the car is not used for a week, put it on a charger so the battery don't discharge too much.
