Hi guys and girls,
I'm not very good on camera so I apologise if the quality of the video sucks.
I'm not saying the other videos on the Internet are wrong but I can't stress enough how many time I have fixed door lock issues with out the need to strip the whole unit,
By just checking this one micro switch before diving into the guts of your lock, you will save not only time but all your previous swear words for more appropriate times.

That could be broken wires in the rubber boot by your door hinge. Iv seen that alot.

@@MrHammond85 Those days will check it. Hope will fix it easily, because last year I broke my window to enter, because I was in a hurry to go somewhere... Last days I don't have back lights on dashboard and climate control. Basically I will learn to be a mechanic with my car, many thing came the time to be replaced when I owe it. 😀

Hello i have an passat b5.5 and there is a problem with the locker the car does not recognize if the door is open or close so the light is doesnt work and the door if you get outside after some seconds its closed by itself...did you think that issues has to do with that?Thank you for your video

I don't suppose you could tell me how to reprogram a key fob for a MKIV (04 plate) seat Ibiza per chance? Mine stopped working even with a new battery and all the connectors in place it was dead so I bought a used one from ebay but i can not reprogram it to my car. I have seen 2 videos on here showing how to do a MKIII and I tried their demos and neither worked. Many thanks for any advice you may be able to offer me.

Hi, very helpful video! Thank you! I'm assuming this is my issue...2 of my doors don't lock/unlock with the fob unless I tinker with that adjustment switch accessible through the door...so I believe my actuators are working, but I don't think the car knows whether or not the door is open or closed which likely causes it to lock or not lock/unlock and arm the alarm. I'll give this a shot...do you know what the part number for that switch is, perchance? I'm in the USA. Thanks! J.

hi jeremy perrod, dont have a part number but im sure you can find them online. you could use any switch you can get your hand on. as long as it is pressed/depressed when the lock operates.

Hi, I have a mk3 Audi TT with a faulty boot lock. It just doesn't lock, I can hear what, I assume, is the actuator working when I press the key fob, do you think it might be the same problem as in the video?

Hi great video. I have one question related to the subject. I have a seat Leon mk3 and I want to install courtesy lights on the doors. It doesn't have any factory installed door courtesy lights. In order to properly install that I have to connect the positive to a permanent 12v power source, I was thinking connecting it to the window switch but the negative must be connected to that tiny switch inside the door lock in order to turn on the light only when the door is open right? I could use your help to identify the negative wire inside the door maybe without having to disassemble the locking mechanism, could you please help me identify the correct ground wire. Maybe if it is a specific color? I'm really not sure what's the correct ground wire to attach the courtesy light. Thank you so much for the help. Great tip by the way 👍

carloscancela save yourself a lot of work and fit a switch from maplin or I think the US have radio shack. I would install it by the hinge rather than the catch. Hope this helps and I'm a little jelouse I can't have a hand in it haha Sounds like a really fun project though

carloscancela that last comment seemed a little short I apologise buddy. If you are sure you want to splice into the original loom I have no problems digging out some wiring diagrams but again you will be far far better making your own loom.

Hi I have an octavia mk 2 2012 reg in which I am facing an issue with the door lock of both the front doors. The doors when opened while the car is on won't open but when the car is turned of and the car gets unlocked by default that time I can open the door. What could be the reason?

Thanks Paul - I am trying to find one that is compatible with a Seat Ibiza Mk IV (2006) front right lock but none of them say they are. Or are the Golf and Ibiza ones identical? I have not yet started the job of removal!!

Any micro switch will work (too a degree) as all you are doing is completing a circuit. What I'm trying to say is as long as the lock is pushing the button it will work, providing that is the cause of the fault.

Yervant Khachadorian hi ya. Sometimes you can get the door open by knocking on the door handle while hitting the unlock button on your key fob. (Knock with your hand!) Otherwise it's a case of trying to pull the door card off, this is no easy task though. As for you light not turning on I would first check that the switch is in the correct possision and that the bulb does intact work. From there it becomes a little more tricky and you would need to understand wiring diagrams and have a knowledge on circuit test I g

Hi Thanks for a great video. I have a Seat Leon Cupra R 2.0 TSI 2011. I have a problem that when I lock the car, and then unlock again then it is not possible to open it again. I have to open the door from the inside. Then I can open and close the door without problems, but when I lock it and then try to open, it will be the same again. If I feel the handle when I unlock the car, the handle feels very "slack". I do not know how to fix this problem. I have the newer version just like you changed in your door lock. I hope for a quick answer as I can not find any information about this either on the internet or on RU-vid. Grateful for help with kind regards Robin from Sweden.

The slack door handle makes me think that the short cable may be loose/broken, this is attached to the door handle and then to the lock. I havent seen this issue before so it is an educated guess. Sometimes the plastic support on the inside of the door can cause the lock to feel sticky too. This in on the inside of the door skin behind the handle. Hope this helps mate.

Hi Paul. I'm having problems on a Mk2 Skoda Fabia. The light on the dash intermittently flashes to say one of the doors is open while driving. Also when off and locked the interior light stays on as if the door is open. Would this switch be the problem? Thanks in advance :)

Hi ptarka, yes it does sound like it, have a quick look and see if the switch looks warn as this is the huge red flag I use for a quick diagnosis. I wish I could be of more help to you.

I’ve just watched another video of someone trying to change the micro switch and basically they say once the old one is out the new one won’t stay in place and the force of the cam is moving the whole unit. Did you have to glue the new switch in or are those 2 holes tight enough to keep it in place? Also I’ve been looking everywhere for one of the metal ones like you have but can’t find them! Ebay only have the plastic ones and amazon are sold out of the metal ones!

I havent had any problems with the switch coming loose if I'm honest. Any micro switch will work and even if you need to use some strong glue to hold an after market one in place. I did a quick Google and came across this, not sure if it helps. uk.rs-online.com/web/p/microswitches/6866938/

Rigsby's carping adventures my first suggestion is a visual check, see if the loom shows any sign of damage. Unfortunatly modern car locks use many micro switches and the only way to easily diagnose a specific part would be with a wiring diagram or an understanding of the internal circuitry. It's so hard to know what direction I would take without seeing the car. I really wish I could get my hands on more cars with the different lock problems to show how easy some can be fixed with some time and patience. I know my response is far from an answer but without seeing the car and knowing how much experience and what diagnostic equipment you have to hand, I could have you running in the wrong direction for days. My s3 8l drivers door lock opens itself when driving. It also fails to close sometimes when i shut door..it catches on the latch and bounces back.

That sounds like the catch is sticking. Try closing the latch with a screw driver and making sure the latch stays closed.

Hello buddy thanks for your video. I have I basically 2 problems in my Skoda Laura co passenger side lock. 1st is it does not shows on door open light on dashboard when the door is opened. 2nd is when I press unlock button for the door the co passenger side door does not unlocks. it stays locked. after repeated pressing on the door's lock & unlock button the lock finally unlocks. can you please let me know where exactly the issue can be

I couldn't possibly say without seeing the car in person and I always use caution when diagnosing issues, you could have an issue with canbus/control module or even a mechanical issue with the lock it's self.

I have a box of them from old locks I have replaced in the past, if you have a look on ebay many sellers have "repair kits" available with heat shrink crimp connectors.

I really couldn't say buddy. It could be a number of things, for example, the wiring that passes through the rubber boot by the door hinge is known to brake.

Laurence Lee Roceta I don't have I'm afraid, untill I have someone ask me to fix one I won't be able to make a one. Having said this most of the VW group cars have a small cable that is only an inch long, this runs from the door lock to the outside handle, you may find this has come loose or broke. I wish I could help more.

My friend has an 09 Leon and the back doors won't work at all when u unlock them. Have to open them by the interior handles. Is this the same fix?

Dean Scott when you say "they don't work" do they unlock/lock ok? If they lock and unlock you may find it's the small cable that runs to the outside handle that has failed.

Paul Elliott thanks for the reply mate. well im not sure as they dont have the lock button on the back doors so its hard to tell if they unlock or not but they do open using the interior handles. Someone told me to pull the interior and exterior handles at the same time and that resets something. I tried this an it works for about 1 or 2 opens of the door then it goes back to not opening with the exterior handles at all. With that in mind im thinking its not cable related. Also its awkward to check with the way the rear door handles r situated on these.

Dean Scott they are a huge pain, try opening the doors and using a screwdriver to latch the door, fooling it into thinking the door is closed. This way you should see the door lock/unlock. It could be as simple as a loose connection in the loom but most of the time this happened on the drivers door due to the amount of use. Sorry if I'm not being much help but as I'm sure you understand it can be hard to diagnose with out seeing the fault.

I my polo 56 plate...2007...4door. Front Passenger side electric door lock will not open...what can be the problem? I can hear the actutaters working but the door lock just doesnt want to open. I can not even open the lock.from the door handle...soon as i pull the door handle to open the lock....the lock goes back down. Any ideas on this please?

Hi Sandeep, this sounds odd. So when you unlock the door you CAN hear the door unlock... But then it immediately locks again? Or you can hear the mechanical movment but the door still remains locked?

Not knowing your mecanical abilities i would sugest you take it to a VW specialist. It is possible to remove the door card on most models and even options of accessing the lock via the handle from the outside of the vehicle. As you can imagin its very hard to advise you on what option would be best with out seeing the vehicle itsself.

I have been able to open them in the past by knocking on the door handle with my hand and clicking the unlock button, when this has failed to work its time to begin exercising your swear words my friend and trying to get the door card off the door

Wow. When you say tge cable is snapped are you referring to the wires or the cable that runs to ilthe inside handle? Also what car and door is stuck?

@@MrHammond85 the cable on in side the door card that opens the door from the in side to the looking mec has snaped in side the mechanism it's on a seat Alhambra front passenger door on a 53 plate and the central looking on the door has broken so will not open so door is stuck on looked position

It sounfs to me like you are going to need to need to brake the lock apart in order to open the door im afraid, its hard without seein the car.

Why not just build up the top of the worn button switch with super glue/araldite etc. It's only not working because the material has worn away, so just replace the material. Or even better replace the actual microswitch button with one from a spare etc?

Absolutely an option however I much prefer to use the microswitch that has the metal shield as this will help prevent the issue from happening in the future.

Just where the hinge is? I think it was all fine there. Really not sure if worth buying different motor for door Also ive locked the door and put card on when it was winter. Thinking how to get it to open now when it's locked dead

If both window and door lock are no longer operating i would strongly suggest checking the wiring. Chances are the door card wont need removing.

Today a remove the door handle on my vw touran 2004, because i want paint the handle, after instal back again the door is opening fine but when i click on my fob to lock my car, all the doors is locked just the door that i recantly reinstal the handle is open...how to fix.. Some solution...

Its hard to know whats wrong without seeing the car, however if the lock was functioning correctly before you disassembled it i would imaging somthing has been left off. If no noise is comming from the lock its self i would sugest that the plug or wiring harnesses needa attention.
