This is a video detailing the installation of a Decoupler on my T3 Syncro conversion. The Decoupler was purchased from the Bernd Jäger web store in Germany. The installation itself was straight forward and in the scheme of things quite easy to carry out.

Thanks for doing this video! Just bought a decoupler from GoWesty, this video makes me want to climb under my Syncro and install my decoupler! Your van looks really nice, too.

Tnx for the video! About VW and the place for the all-wheel drive, what I have understand the HD models (army, fire-department, etc. ) have it original installed. But fore the commercial versions they didn't ever install it original as additional.

Nice work as always Mark. I didn't see a dust boot (rubber tube) going on between the actuator and nosecone. If it's left open to the elements, just like the diff-locks, the steel pin will corrode and seize. A section of 19mm coolant hose cut to length and smothered in copper grease (internally obviously) will ensure a good seal and no corrosion. Re R&G housing being cracked, it would be possible to have it welded, maybe even in situ but it'll be a struggle due to the oil. If you need a hand stripping and rebuilding the gearbox, give me a bell. MG

Hi yes the Decoupler comes from Jager already fitted with protection in that area, as you say already using a section of rubber tubing. Have to say that the decoupler kit from Jager is well put together, just what you would expect from someone who knows T3 Syncros like he does. Cheers

Mark Halligan Yes Jaeger knows his stuff. Your decoupler looks like one that has been built by Stefan. They're the best on the market currently with a new main shaft, needle roller support bearing and separate engagement gear.

Thanks No real issues at all other than usual wear and tear that you would expect from daily use.

Well done. There is a chap on 80-90 that does VC referbs. SilverBullet is his user name. I think some of the profits go to a charity as well, if I am not mistaken. Not been on there myself for a while, but I'm sure if he is still doing them someone there will know.

Hi Mate ! Do you have a diagram as to how did you connect the vacuum hose at the front? I will be attaching mine to but its from a diffrent seller in Germany. regards

Hi nothing that I measured so I can't give you any figures... but there was definitely an improvement on long runs.

Well done, good move under the described circumstances. An AWD decoupler has other advantages like driveability of the T3 Syncro which turns into a beast with unequal tyres, and saving fuel, wear and tear on long windy sealed roads. If you want to eliminate your viscous coupling problem, you have two more or less practicable options: Buy a new one from Bernd Jäger or have it repaired by vw-kern.at/visco_en.php Easy enough to replace once you have squeezed out the front diff from the vehicle, that takes two mechanical surgeons unless you are very well equipped.
