This is my van with an ABL 1.9 TD diesel. Sump pan removal and look inside at the oil pick up. Then I remove the pressure sensor switch and replace it and test the old one in the workshop.

The long and the short of it was that changing the sensor worked!

I had this problem, I replaced the sensor and oil pump filter and oil, still had the same problem so I fixed it with a piece of black tape on the light and removed the buzzer! lol

Another great video, at least you know the strainer is clear of bits.

Thanks Buddy, It really all looked very clean inside. My local auto factors recommends using the cheapest oil (£12/5litre) for anything over 10 years old. I half agree with this as an idea, but changing it regularly seems to be the best way. What I am more worried about now is that my 16 year old van will have a string of sensors breaking down from now on! MOT is due in the next month!

bootsowen I have been changing the oil every 3000 miles, I use the febi bilstein oil filter at £9 each. I managed to get a few 4 litre bottles of 10w40 castrol magnatec for about £12 each a while back, so works out at £22 per change for 4.5l of oil, filter and new sump bolt. I do that roughly every 6 months as I only do about 6000 miles a year. That head sock thingamajig could catch on you know, looks like it does the job!

Hi, I have the same van, I have replaced the same valve as you have in your video but the new yellow wire coming from the sensor i have no idea were it goes or connects to, there is nowhere on the internet with any diagrams or photos or videos to help me. Unless I see another van like mine on the road to stop and ask to have a look in there engine I'm at a loose end, could you please help if possible, 🙏

Hi there, there are many engine variants for this van, this one is a 1.9TD ABL engine. I am not sure that I remember a yellow wire from the sensor. My most basic question would be:if the van still works: does it matter?
@michaellittler
@michaellittler 7 лет назад
bootsowen, all sorted thanks, the broken wire was still there just hidden inside the plastic cover. I had to jack the van high to find it 👍🏽

Nice video! Was that the low pressure sensor or the high? I think if its a 1.9 td the low pressure sender is on the filter housing x

I always fond it a bit frustrating when it is the sensor that fails rather than an actual fault, of course, I prefer no faults, but it is boring replacing sensors!

Very helpful video. I am having the same issue. I have got a new sensor to fit but im wondering will the connector still work ok after being covered in oil. I have cleaned it up best i can.Obviously seems to work ok in your vid but I would have though the oil inside the connector would cause a connection problem.
@bootsowen
@bootsowen 4 года назад
Didn't seem to be an issue for me, and since you have the new sensor you might as well try it. as with all these things on the T4, getting the belly pan off is a bigger job than the actual job. Let me know how it goes.
@vtrguy6385
@vtrguy6385 4 года назад
@@bootsowen thanks for the quick reply! Yes I will stick it in and see what happens. Mine didn't actually come with a belly pan so I must get one to protect it a bit from the elements.
@bootsowen
@bootsowen 4 года назад
I don't know that they really do protect it from the elements, I think they are there for environmental noise, they have cushions on the inside that look a lot like noise absorbers. They are more of a hindrance than anything.

Hey Bootsowen, thanks for the video. I am currently trouble shooting the issue of my oil light and buzzer triggering when I reduce speed/revs, but then stops as soon as I drop gear and increase revs again. After replacing both high and low-pressure sensors I am planning to buy an oil pressure gauge to see if there really is a low pressure problem. Do you know what reading I should be getting on the guage and do I simply remove the oil pressure sensor and connect gauge to that hole? VW T4 1.9TD 1998. Thanks!

I had that before, or maybe I did, My alternator needed brushes, the oil light would flash yellow and beep (IIRC) the rev counter would not show an idle but would appear and shoot up at higher revs. The alternator drives the rev counter on this one. If it is a red oil light then it is more likely pressure and I have no idea what the values should be. Try "Thomas EXOVCDS" on yt, he is very helpful and knows his vw.

Hi, im from Argentina, have the same problem on a T4 2.4. So the beeping is gone after replace the sensor?. Thnks.

That fucker also flashing when the alternator is faulty.
@bootsowen
@bootsowen 6 лет назад
Yeah, I had that a few years ago the other giveaway is that the rev counter stops working, as it is driven electrically from the alternator. I had the brushes replaced in the alternator for £15, he said it might last 5000 miles, it has done over 50000 miles and still going. He must have done a great job!
