Thanks for the video. It helped me with replacing the fob for the key to my 2002 Skoda Octavia. My problem was that the metal loop at the end opposite the blade had broken off so I couldn't put the fob on a keyring, so I just swapped blade and circuit board. However, the immobiliser then stopped the engine from running. After quite a bit of Googling, I discovered that the RFID chip that the immobiliser system uses is in a tiny glass tube that's glued deep in a little recess right next to the blade pivot. Once I'd managed to extract the tube and get it glued securely in the new fob, the key worked perfectly.

I did this exact procedure on my fob for a 2012 VW Golf. In the video at time stamp 6:08 when I removed the circuit board, the gold looking switch got separated from the board and was stuck to the flexible rubber part of the keyboard. It may have bee intentionally glued by VW, I don't know for shure. I managed to remove it from the rubber part and re-glued it with a very thin layer of instant glue taking care to place it to meet the section on the circuit board and luckily it worked. If not, I would not the unlock function on the fob would not function. So beware.

@TheCarKeyMan 7 месяцев назад
Hi, thanks for this advice. Yes I'm starting to see this a bit now. They are not glued, but ust become attached overtime I believe. It can just be placed back onto the switch and with a bit of carefull assembly it will still work ;)

Thank you, my blade holder snapped and I was quoted £160 for a new key. Bought a case and pliers off a well known internet retailer for £13 and spent 45 minutes to swap over the original key blade into the new case. thanks for this video. Managed to do re-shell my wife's Skoda key following your guide. Biggest issue was finding someone to cut the new blade (only) as i already had the shell. None of the chains will do it so ended up at a local locksmith. I had tried to knock the pin out to swap the blades but gave up after a while (must need a hell of a lot of force!). Worth the effort in the end. About £35 all in including £10 for a 12mm OEM Skoda logo. Still half the price Timpson wanted to charge... and i learnt something. Thank you.

Hi Karlos, not a silly question, so here goes. Think of it like this. Each key has a chip in that acts like a unique fingerprint. In the car is a library of all the keys that are allowed to start it, like a list of allowed fingerprints. If you mess one key up, the other will still be stored in the library and it will work fine till. Hope that helps

Just followed this video after my key broke in the same place. Bought a key body off amazon and then followed these instructions. It worked perfectly and was exactly the same as the video. I elected to use the blade from my old key vs getting the new one cut. The punch was a bit tough, but I got the pin out, I then ground down the old blade to the same profile of the new blade and it worked perfectly. Just grind a little at a time and test fit as you go. I also used a dot of blue thread lock at the end to hold the pin for the blade back in. Thank you for the video and instructions, worked perfectly.

If I have an MK6 key, this method will work right? Also, the current key fob I have has the red button on the side, the new fob I purchased doesn’t have that. Will this effect the exchange? Or can I still use the new fob without the red button?
@TheCarKeyMan
@TheCarKeyMan 2 года назад
Hi, to be honest I'm not sure. I've started to see Caravelle keys and keys with a red button and I haven't tried to transfer one of these over to a standard case, so I'm not sure if it will fit, sorry

I had the exact same thing happen to me today with my VW Passat fob!!! I used krazy glue to reattach it, but I don't think this is a good long term solution... it still kinda wants to move around than staying absolutely firm

Hi, i have a vw key and the led isn't working? Circuit board is getting current and buttons work....all tested with multimeter....my question is....if I replace the circuit board does it need coding or is it just the transponder that needs coding🤔
@TheCarKeyMan
@TheCarKeyMan 4 года назад
Hi Dave, with VW keys after 2010 the transponder is part of the circuit board, so yes it will need coding. Have you visited a local key cutting shop to ask if they can test your key? Just because the led comes on, you need to find out if there is a signal coming out
@whatsdavedone104
@whatsdavedone104 4 года назад
@@TheCarKeyMan its a key for a mk5 not a mk6...it has separate glass transponder. The key isn't for my car, its for a friend. He has asked me to change the case to mk7 style....it might be working, I don't know as car isn't with me.

'cut the same' you mean taking it where they make house key copies and duplicate the engraving of the key? or how do you propose that step? at the very end of your video.
@TheCarKeyMan
@TheCarKeyMan 3 года назад
Hi Lenin. The two choices are getting it cut at a shops, as you suggest, or reusing the old blade. If you choose to reuse your blade you'll need to modify the blade. Let me know if you need a kit for that

This looks real good easy and cheap to get. Can anyone give me a name in Sussex who will cut the new blade? Everyone seems to want to do the whole job £120 - £250. Went ahead and transferred my blade. I have plenty of small files and a Dremel. I had to adjust just about every dimension, even the depth of the groove. The new pin turned out to be hollow and crushed rather than shift, had to drill it. More seriously the switches, which should be stuck to the PCB, were adhered to the buttons. Work of art to sort that. Hope the next one is easier.

Thank you very much for this very helpful video. This worked like a charm on my 2013 VW Passat key! I saved all my bother and got my key cut, and it was easy to switch. I managed to use a pair of regular needle nose pliers (didn't have those spreaders) and just pulled it apart. Took a little muscle, but I did manage to break it open without damaging the brains. Brain transplant was easy, and boom...or should I say, Bob's your uncle. Many thanks!
