VW WeConnect Explainer + How To (Part 1)

Today is part one of our two-part series on VW WeConnect and Volkswagen ID. I'll be showing you how to set up a Volkswagen ID (which is a requirement before moving on to part two where I'll actually show you how this works on a vehicle).
You can get set up on the WeConnect app (and create a Volkswagen ID) on an iPhone, Android, or in your browser.

Chris. Thank you for this video - a much needed explanation of a poorly documented feature of the van. When I picked up my California the dealership had little experience of setting up the VW ID and seemingly little knowledge of the VW WeConnect system and it's features. Although I eventually got everything working a subsequent glitch in the VW WeConnect system (which I eventually found was due to a problem with server maintenance) disconnected the vehicle and generated emails advising that the vehicle had disconnected itself. At that stage I lost Apple carplay connectivity, and only managed to recover it by finding the one person at the dealership with knowledge of setting it up. During this process the VW WeConnect helpline was next to useless, cutting me off repeatedly and sending me emails with irrelevant information about subscribing to VW WeConnect, and the VW Customer Services helpline would not get involved, referring me back to the WeConnect helpline. When the system works it's fine, if a bit limiting in comparison with other manufacturer's systems. But when it doesn't, the support provided to the customer is, in my experience, extremely poor. VW really need to get to grips with sorting out it's documentation, it's customer helplines, and it's dealership training in this area.

Hi Chris I tried to connect my golf to the we connect without any joy. I have the data plug in my car and use we connect go. Would this be the reason I am having trouble connecting me phone to my golf using the we connect? Thanks paul

Thanks Chris - very helpful, as before it was a total mystery!! Is the data package a one off payment, monthly, annually? Maybe you'll give us that info in the next video which I'm really looking forward to. Thanks again.

Hi Chris. Another excellent and informative video. Shame VW can’t do the same. I managed to set up We Connect (I believe its the Plus version) on my recently bought 2020 California Ocean. It helped I’d already been using We Connect Go on my 2017 Tiguan. However the versions are a lot different. We Connect Go has some information that’s not on the Plus version (as far as I can see) eg Fuel Monitor - where you can record fuel added, costs, mileage etc. I find this v helpful, esp with increasing costs of diesel. Is anything similar on We Connect Plus? Many thanks

Such a shame the data packages are so expensive. Just checked and 5GB for €18.95.

@@ginabrooks8492 I am going to use my mobile devices and tether. While I am sure the connection on the van is better we will rinse 5GB in about half a day. If it was 50gb per month then it might be worth it.
