The 2 Bb French Horns are normally low horns, written for a range corresponding today to the Bb Baritone saxhorn (or Bb Tenor Tuba or Bb Euphonium). Otherwise in the treble, it would correspond to a Bb trumpet range. It is obvious that these must be low Bb horns in this score (and not high Bb horns, as we hear in this recording), because the 2nd horn is in the same musical phrasing as the basses (cellos, double basses), and the 1st horn corresponds to a tenor range. Bb horns should not be played in the high range, as in this recording.
