These skits are fantastic! His comedy was a lot more diverse than I was lead to believe ~ HE was always associated with Mae West when I was younger. There’s a lot more to this man than “My little chick-a-dee”! He’s by far a LEGEND!
The lion tamer sequence in this film is still unbelievable. (not a typical scene) How anybody gets to that state with lions seems impossible. Worth the price alone.
Godfrey Daniels! A few funny 50 yo WC memories. Ah yes, Drink...one of the greatest pleasures in life. CHEAP... it cost me $5 a gallon! On our excursion to Afghanistan we lost our corkscrew, we had to go for days, on food and water. I bought a wonderful club in Toronto, yeah, a Canadian Club. The Duchess and I sat up til 4 o'clock, and drank 3 quarts of rye. I spent half my money on gambling, alcohol and wild women, the other half I wasted. Why do you drink so much...cause I like it. WC is even funnier, if you slow the playback speed to about 85%. :)
Why does Edgar talk to his wooden doll even when they're not on stage? We can see Edgar's lips moving when the doll speaks, so we know the doll isn't alive like a creature out of science fiction. Does the puppeteer have schizophrenia or multiple personalities? It's so odd!
Mdriver1981 Paul Winchell was always my favorite ventriloquist growing up. Edgar Bergen was always known as a bad ventriloquist and the fact that his and Charlie's popularity peaked on radio was testament to that. Charlie McCarthy was hugely popular in the 30's and 40's and was treated as Candice Bergen's older brother when she was a little girl. That's creepy enough right there.
