VIDEO TAKEN ON DEC. 13TH, 2008. DATE IN VIDEO IS INCORRECT.
During the month of December, the Wilmington & Western runs thier annual Santa Trains through the Red Clay Valley. Santa climbs aboard the train, as he continues his journey by rail; he really gets around, doesn't he? Remember, he knows if you've been naughty or nice, and if you've been naughty, then Santa may come up to the engine and get some more coal! So sit back, enjoy the ride, and be good for goodness sake.

First to view, rate, comment, and favorite! This video was awesome and well put together. There's nothing like watching the fireman shovel coal into the firebox. The outside scenes you got were just stunning too.

From what I was told, #98 wore a whistle like that when she was down south. Those deeper whistles were common in the Southern states.

The tracks on the W&W are not steady curves or a 100% clear ROW. You're taking a 100+ year old steam engines through the most dense forests of Delaware on a uphill grade following a creek. Not to mention the track goes from 90 pound rail to 120 pound back to 90 pound and so on for miles at a time. If anything were to go wrong, they wouldn't have the time, money or track workers these big tourist railways do. The W&W is for a relaxing, fun journey in beautiful woods. Not a giant race track.

Wow that is a nice video. The W&W do have some nice equipment and for some reason the railroad reminds me of Strasburg.

And her normal whistle is a 3 chime whistle that came off of a factory in Wilmington.

No. It was labeled in the video as a Lehigh Valley 3 Chime, which is what it is.

I'm no expert on steam whistles, but I do question whether that whistle is actually a Lehigh Valley 3 chime. In a video released over a year ago (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EOunPrGYrBw.html), Reading & Northern #425 ran a private steam charter while wearing a Lehigh Valley 3 chime. Not only is there a substantial difference in sound between the whistle #425 is wearing in that video & the whistle #98 is wearing in this video, but the whistle #425 is wearing appears to have shorter chambers, whereas the whistle #98 is wearing clearly has longer chambers. That being said, the whistle that #98 is wearing in this video does sound similar to when R&N #425 wore a Lehigh & New England 3 chime (which does have longer chambers). Here's a video of #425 with the L&NE 3 chime: (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nTmx22L-6sE.html). I'm curious to see what anyone has to say about everything I just said.

they go 10-15 miles per hour and there equipment is very valuable those cars are hard to find and 98 is the only 4-4-0 in service on the east coast...

Actually she isn’t, here in Florida the Walt Disney World Railroad’s #4 “Roy O. Disney” is a 4-4-0 Steam Engine Built by Baldwin in 1916.
