2014 e63s owner here as well. These cars in stock form impress even non car people. Mine does have a s2 tune, with a tcu tune and bb intakes, and now it's just on another level of fun. Definitely my favorite car to date and I've had 8 prior to this one.
Funny story, I have a good friend since college, we are always buying a selling cars for fun. He's owned lots of fast cars, vettes, SRTs, caddy Vs etc, never an AMG. I took him for a ride in the e63... And he bought one the next day lol. His is the grey one in my other vids
Which tune did you go with on yours? I own a 2014 E63s also like Kens and yours. I just recently purchased a complete weistec exhaust with bridge pipes included. At this point I’m waiting to make the right choice of turbo upgrade. I did upgrade to an AMS carbon intake and removed resonator with an X section. I went with a stage 1 RaceIQ tune and have been getting misfires. Anyway congrats to you both. Loving your channel Ken 😎👍🏼
@@gillypig1 I went with eurocharged everything. Local to me with great knowledge on this platform. These cars are very sensitive when it comes to coils and spark plugs. Replace those if you haven't and that should fix your misfire. The coils have a updated part number now and are alot beefer now
@@besicm1 brand new coils with updated part number and also NGK one step colder plugs from weistec that were gapped to .024. Still did it after that. I filled up with 100 octane to see and so far it hasn’t done it but again I haven’t been on it like I want to. Someone mentioned high and or low pressure fuel pumps. Thing is when it was stock it ran perfectly fine.
Hey there bro, I'm Hameed from Cape Town South Africa. I can't agree more with you, I bought 1 just 2 weeks ago, a 2016 E63s with only 15620km on he clock and its ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT, even smells like new still. I just love the shape of this car, the rear lights makes the rear look Absolutely Awesome. We'll I paid quite a bit for it, but hey, for the amount of car u getting, it's Absolutely Worth it. enjoy your AMG bro.
The W212 was the standard taxi model for almost every company here in Sweden (most had the 200 diesel engine) untill 2016 when the W213 was released. Super reliable, fuel efficient, it oozed class and was really comfortable for the driver and passengers. Nowdays the taxi companies chooses all kind of cars.
I have the 2014 E250 Diesel, with 117k miles. Runs great. I love the mileage I get for work. About 30-35 MPG about 600 miles per tank. Sometimes I think about new sports car but the E63 might solve that itch. I’d definitely pick one up and keep both. One for work and one for personal.
Believe it or not, I actually looked for an e250 as well as my daily. They're actually really hard to find here in the states. Anyway, I generally split the daily driving between the e63, and my Jeep
They are like a professional fighter with a dark side in a well tailored 3-piece suit. You could actually drive this car year round in winter if you wanted to. Toss on a set of blizzaks and you're golden.
Definitely IMO the best looking e class made, “power under wraps” 💯 for sure.. the only issue is in the european market they only had the rear wheel drive option 😒
The W212 is BY FAR the best looking E-Class made! I had the pre face-lift 2011 & boy oh boy do I regret getting rid of it! I'm currently trying to convince my wife that she NEEDS a 2014 E63 or an E550 since I have a Durango now! Wish me luck! 🤣🤞🏼
Hey A J your coment about RWD on European Market ist wrong. All European W212 facelift E63 from 2014 accept Great Britain had AWD. Only prefacelift got RWD and older Transmission.
2015 E63 AMG S Owner here, Great video. I tell this to people all the time! It is a very fun, practical, reliable and safe car! Like you said, What more can you ask for?! Oh I have gotten almost 28mpg on the freeway once👀
@@Atoxiccell Regular oil changes Lifter additives transmission mount changes Engine mounts and thats it. If you’re past 100 K in kms then expect to invest in some maintenance.
I also have a 2014 E63 S. Has a Weistec Stage 1 ECU Tune. It is straight-piped. Cat delete, muffler & resonator deleted. Weistec spark plugs. Wolf in sheep’s clothing. Enjoy your ride!!
@@ExoticCarDIY the engine is great incredibly smooth! But fortunately build quality isn't better than w212. I bought a 2015 w222 S65 sedan and yes it's a nicer car(better be) BUT there are some sections that just feel cheap very cheap compared to my 2014 e63. For example the dash has a rattle that's noticeable, the sun visor hinges are plastic vs metal, more gaps in between headlights and taillights (yes more gaps). And the worth part is the headlight condensation which has been a problem for all w222 s classes. Even the door handles aren't as nice as they were in the past. Overrall I like the car strictly because of the v12, it pulls different than any V8 car I own. Hate to rant but that's just my opinion or maybe I'm being to picky...
At the time I made this video last year, there was some in the 30s, but pretty much over the last 9 months, everything has gone up about 20 grand Having said that, there was a y8,000-mi white one on Facebook marketplace the guy just sold for 35, clean title but one accident on the Carfax
Great video, excellent review! Man I thinking about one of these and like you I currently have a 2006 E55. I have had it for 4 years and love it. It is getting old but still always puts a smile on my face. Deep down I know I'd have to sell it to get one of W212 ones. Not sure what I will do. I know someday I will own one of these.....why not have both!
At the end, You said, they were able to correct the timing chain tensioner. Did you mean on facelift w212 Or 2016 w212 or newer Mercedes? I really need to understand this. Thanks!
So far the reliability has been great. Obviously you've seen the things I've had to fix and all the videos on the channel. In my opinion all superficial stuff, motor mounts, cam sensors and solenoids, couple rattles. But the bones are great on these. People do run into issues when they tune them. Literally when you try to Max these cars out it's expected that longevity will suffer. Overall the m157 is a good motor but the earlier versions have issues with timing chains that are expensive. Stay 14 and up
I avg 19mpg, figure $60 yearly old changes, minor things like cabin filters etc. Most repairs are inexpensive if you diy especially. Brakes and tires can be a big cost, shipping around with help a ton.
Oh I'm sure all the new transmissions are much better. Having said that, I have no complaints with the 7g in my car. It performs fine, shifts great.. My understanding is the dcts only comes in the GT, the new E63 just gets the 9g, with basically the same wet clutch as the 7g
Tanks man, I appreciate it a lot .Also, is it all wheel drive ? I heard its a 30/70 split but isn’t that bad cause it’ll slip a if the road conditions are uncertain ?
I have the 2014 e63 i had for about six month but for some reason im having the engine check on every few weeks with the p2099 code does any one have any idea why.the car runs fine but the lights there for a day or 2 then its gone
Another great video Kenny! The headlights really are amazing, as are the brakes. Also as impressive as these cars are from 0-60, it’s the 50-130mph where they really blow all the competition away. These cars are also starting to rise in value as people realise no one will make a twin turbo 5.5 litre sedan ever again.
great car best engine of all time, such an overbuilt engine, the trans is what this cars lacking, imagine this m157 engine equipped with the newer amg trans..
I’ve got a 2014 E63 S. Could not be happier to have found your channel. Really helpful information in maintaining the car. Have a good day man. Keep the videos coming!
Thank you for this video, I dont see many of these cars on youtube and i love that you took the time to explain what this car can do. I cant wait! to get one.
I own an 2014 cls 63s that has the same M157 engine and built off of the e class platform. This thing is a monster!!!!! Before purchasing this car I was looking at Porsches and BMW’s. However, this car caught my attention and it’s such an unique looking car. Lol my friend owns a stage 2 Bmw 340i and my stock car was able to pass his car.
I agree, especially the rear end of the 213 leave something to be desired. But then again, that 4.0 biturbo with the nine speed is an extremely impressive motor as well
Thanks man, I love the headlight show my car gives me on the way to work lol. Hopefully I didn't embellish to much, but they car are too great to not share!
Saw one of these in pretty good condition...2014 E63S...but it has 125K miles on it. Came from Florida originally and is now at a local dealership for mid $30's Tempting...though there are a couple of things I dont like that were options on this The matte finish paint and the two tone leather interior
I really haven't heard anything about longevity issues with these. Granted there aren't a ton up there. Sucks, when I made this video, they were truly a pretty good deal, but over the last 9 months, things have just gotten insane on the pricing of every car including these. Hard to find a good deal anymore unless it has a gazillion miles
Great video! I am currently in the market for fast, family sedan and this is the top of my list W212 Facelift (others obviously being F10 M5, CTSV. Panamera etc
All great cars, hope I'm not too bias lol. (My next car will likely be a cts-v3) When I made this video, they were a great value, but over the past few months they (and everything else for that matter) has gone nuts. Hard to find what's a good "value" in this market
I bought a 2012 Mercedes-Benz cls 63 amg last year with one owner and detailed service record. I love this car it pulls hard and it sounds amazing I don’t think you can get a better bargain on what you are getting for the money due to depreciation
These will roast most (85%) of new C8 vets too. I know, I’ve done it. With a stock 2014. It’s very rare for most to get near the racing engineer that got the 2.8 sec 0-60 out of their new C8 in cold 37 degree air at 140 ft above sea level in New Jersey . The average quickest 0-60 in the C8 is 3.47 sec and the quickest times are in light base model 1LT trim, not the 2LT Orr anything with z51. The z51 is for circuit track work, it drag strip acceleration runs. More amazingly is you can pick one of these up from 80k miles for $30k to $55k for a 40k mile model and with about $3500 in mods, you have 700-740hp and exotic car acceleration at your finger tips and with that hp comes, if requested, top speed !!! 0-60 drops from 3.3 to 2.6 sec at 740 hp and the 1/4 drops from 11.4@123 to 10.4@136… folks that on pace with a McLaren 650. Bigger turbos puts you in the 825-840 hp range and you can go hunting 2022 McLaren 720s & 765LT’s and if you drive the Big E sedately, you’ll get nearly 16-18 mpg with grandmas foot pressure but the ability to hold back is to great once you lay into it with even 645 hp/680 tq.
If you have the Estate trim of these, as I do, keep your wagon and try to keep the miles down! The E63s AMG Wagons are going to become valuable collectors cars. AMG might not be making V8s much longer and MB is doing away with wagons by the end of the decade. Absolutely LOVE my Merc and the styling of the W212 is beautiful. True German muscle.
Here in Australia, even my 2005 W211 E350 AvantGarde cost $135,000… will have a look at these E63 2014s… but must say the one you review is no where near as pretty as the supremely gorgeous W211 AMG iterations. Loved your sharing BTW :-) the only other issue is I’d always prefer my M-B to be completely factory original-the number of botched body kits out there is awful-and why would any street driver need more grunt than these beautiful machines delivered from Sindelfingen?
Looking to get one myself... as an w212 E500 face-lift model owner. just need to find withouth ceramic breaks 😆... This w212 models are really reliable but when it starts to break (as like all cars) it can be expensive. Most expensive parts which tend to be replaced within 10 years are the problems around the Airmatic ( rear airmatic bags + compressor + diffuser €2.000, front air suspension each €1.500) Engine wise I have the V8 4.7L bi-turbo but kinda afraid of the 5.5L... maintenance and prices Incase something go's wrong
All very true, that's kinda the point to my channel. How to own the car you want AND afford to fix it. the 4.7 and 5.5 are very close in design, generally the things that go bad in one, will go bad in the other, avoid tunes for longevity IMO. As for the suspension, air shocks are a paint not matter is its benz, Lincoln, chevy, jeep etc... In fact, all shocks go bad, but you can keep driving with standard coils compared to air springs which leave the car disabled. check out RMT or Arnott air springs replacements. lifetime warranty, just are good as OEM and around 1/3 the price or OEM
I’m only 17 and since I live in Sweden I can’t get my drivers license until I’m 18. But I’m telling you, this car will be in my inventory in a couple of years. Everything is amazing about this car. It looks so new and sounds amazing. Definitely subscribing to you. You got more social media?
Sounds exciting! Something definitely look forward to. Yeah I'll keep making videos here (maybe try to watch some of the Ferrari ones) I also have IG knr.motorsports
Love your vids my friend I cant thank you enough. i noticed you car actually pulls during a RS my 2014 falls flat on its face, brake boosting runs fine 3.6 0-60 1/4 mile 11.8 at 119.8 brake boosting RS has a 0-60 at 4.4 and a 12.5 ish 1/4 any tips on what to check or try would be muchly appreiciated
Just wanted to follow up on this Kevin. I just figured out what was causing my issues as stated in another one of your videos it was the vaccum pump check valve diaphragm! For the time being until the proper parts arrive I took a small inline vac check and put it online closest to the pump… car pulls like train again!! No longer running rich.
It's a tough call, they're pros and cons to each. Looks are definitely subjective. I think you should let try train either deciding factor, if you want all wheel drive, go for the facelift, if you're a fan of rear wheel drive, get the 12-13
I have checked mine, no evidence of that yet. I saw that one guys post on MBworld where he mentioned a $16,000 repair because oil is going into the harness, scary stuff
This video was posted a year ago. How reliable (or unreliable) has it been since then? I’m in the market but scared of reliability. 2014-2016 e63 vs 2018+ e63?
Short answer, yes they are reliable fun cars. Long answer. All cars have issues. Many BMW require rod bearings every other oil change, Alfa quads can seize up etc, etc. The AMG cars are not 100,000 mile no maintenance cars. But of all the failures, IMO they are all minor. If you look at my recent vids with the red E63, I had to do motor mounts, cam sensors, solenoid. My friend has a 213 e63 and they need rear main seals and oil separators. But really overall, they are a great platform and are generally very reliable. One thing that I have changed is my opinion on tuning the m157. While rare, the m157 seems to be susceptible to bending rods and scoring cylinder walls when pushed to far. The m177 seems to handle tunes much better. I personally wouldn't buy a previously tuned w212 or 213 e63, and have decided not to tune my red car. It's plenty fast or of the box and IMO the risks when tuning outweigh the rewards. At stock boost levels, I have yet to see any catastrophic failures. I think the 212 is a better looking car than the 213, but the 213 offers some additional perks and experiences that interest me. I may be getting ready to sell and look for a red 213 wagon soon :)
@@ExoticCarDIY thanks for the input! I’ve owned a cls55 so I am familiar with these AMGs. I’m just hesitant when it comes to turbos because of my previous experiences with turbo Hondas (the good old days). And repairs on a Benz is way different vs a Honda hahah. Your opinion on tunes is exactly what I was thinking…the extra power/torque is nice, but to sacrifice reliability is a tough decision to make. I’m hooked on the 212 and I just need to keep hearing that they are reliable so I can pull the trigger LOL
With the price increases over the last year, I don't have enough money to buy one of these either lol Thanks for watching man, the best advice I can give you is learn how to work on them.
Hey man I have an issue with my e63, thinking you might know what it might be. The touchless unlock stopped working recently and locking it by tapping the door handle. Could you write back at me
I'm looking to get out of my 2006 E55 and into a 2016 E63 so this was the perfect video for me. And now I'm not sure I want to ditch the E55 😂 new sub!
I have driven a 204 c63 a few times, but never owned one. As far as the actual car, the 212 is much larger, roomier, and the materials and build quality is noticeably higher. An E63 usually will get around 21 MPG mixed, as high as 24mpg, although it's easy to make that number lower if you're having a lot of fun LOL The na motor in the c63 is going to feel a much more responsive than the turbo motor in the E63. Like I talked about in the video when I compared to the e55, while the m157 is fast, it is 'soft' if you understand what I'm saying. The w 212 possible generally ride smoother, but may not feel as nimble as a c63 As far as reliability, the general consensus is that the m156 is one of the most unreliable AMG motors Mercedes has produced. Nearly all of them have the head bolt issues which is a catastrophic engine failure, they also have cam gear issues tensioner issues etc. However, some of the last m156s apparently had the head bolt issue addressed from the factory. The m157 has been very stout, It suffers from a few minor issues like the tensioners, but I consider a minor fixable issue completely different than a catastrophic failure. Hope this helps! Both good cars
I ordered a 2009 because i always loved that body style & a 2016. I'm looking for a 10-13 & there's one that's black on black but the miles are high..to me at least. I like the prefacelift body lines. Anyone who has owned the 10-13 , in comparison to the 14-16. Is there much of a difference besides age cost and appearance. I buy a lot of cars. I trade when I can. Anyone with extensive knowledge òf these that I can speak to, message me. I'm looking for feedback & just general advice on mechanical issues, maintenance records to negotiate price on for major service concerns. I'm looking for a m6 Competition coupe 14-19 gran coupe. I have some excellent resources & contacts for vehicles of this caliber, parts etc. To the maker of this video. Your videos are one of if not the. Best as far as content information, video & thay car is right.
It's maybe not as nimble for autocross, but does well on the track and twisty roads. Mpg depends on your right foot. Setting the cruise at 75 expect about 23, mixed 19, lots of playing around maybe closer to 17
Nope, my buddy just bought one, other than the exterior styling (subjective) it's better in every way... But it's also more than double the cost. So it better be lol. Lots of videos coming on that car
Totally, I've always loved the M cars, but there are so many stories of catastrophic ancient failures, repeated rod bearing replacements, grenading transmissions... Ehhh, not for me right now

I'm that video, it's a 14. I currently have a 16. Minor changes mostly. Some updated software. The 15.5-16 have the newest chain tensioners. There were about 5 revisions through the previous years
@@ExoticCarDIY This is so important for me to know. I was hesitant to pull the trigger on this 2014 I was looking for. Thank you so much! God bless you!
@@GLA45Amg716 yeah, it sucks that we have to even consider that now... You can squeak 23 out of these, but it's a course going to be premium. And if you're getting 23 MPG you're not having any fun
@@ExoticCarDIY I sold my scatpack last year and i said I would be smarter as far as v8s go.. yeah it’s sad can’t really enjoy them now without paying significantly for it now
Yeah, both are great cars. I guess the way I see it is if I kept my e55, I could have bought another car to go alongside it lol. Every situation is different, I had the e55 exactly how I liked it. I've looked at other e55 cents I sold mine, I just can't find one in the spec and condition that mine was, So for now I'll be keeping the E63 unless I do find one
I don't know if you saw any of my other videos. I actually sold that car... Looked around for something else... And then bought another one 😂. I really do think they are great cars
Don't get me wrong, it is a great platform. Obviously you missed a couple of the big updates like the headlights. The na 6.2 is a lot of fun, but power upgrade wise quite limited. The main problem is the 6. 2 is prone to some catastrophic failures with the head bolts. Note, that was mostly in the first several years of its run, they did fix it and you can actually look up what serial number got the updated head bolts. Likely most '10 and '11s should have the newer head bolts already, but I wouldn't buy one without checking.
@@AnontheGOAT awesome, congrats! With a tune, pretty much any m157 is equal One thing I found in mine, and I'll have a video about it in a week or two. Check the cam sensors for oil in the connector.
@@AnontheGOAT good question, I actually have another video where I compared Euro charged mail order tune to a race chip. Anyway, I think what I actually might do on this next one is just get a good TCU tune from edok. Essentially it just lets you unlock full power from the m157 all the time compared to the stock tuning which really limits it in first through third
Only recently found your channel, and have found your videos very informative. I've got a W212 2016 E63s an absolutely stunning car. But it's a real handful as we in the UK never got the 4matic option until the W213. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks man, I'll keep making them if people keep watching them lol. It's funny how many people in the US wish theirs was a real drive because they say they want to drift or something stupid like that. I love the all wheel drive, very odd that they didn't put those in Europe
@@ExoticCarDIY Europe did have the 4matic version. But something to do with the routing of the steering column (UK drives on the right) wouldn't allow the use of 4matic.
I definitely agree it is the best deal you can get on a car under 35k. In a roll race it would beat a stock c7 stingray, f type r, rs7 and 2014-2016 m5. The closest would probably be the stingray
The E55 is like the best of that era/chassis. I have a 6 speed SRT8 with high miles (really similar chassis to the 211) and I want a newer AMG, had a clk55 that was amazing - but I don't think I could get rid of the M/T experience with 450whp NA, in a big comfortable confident car is just... Couldn't do it. When I actually have a road to drive it hard it actually surprises me how much it 'shrinks' and just goes. Reminds me a LOT of my former AMGs. Oh, and I paid 12k... So there's that
I can't believe this video. I am only days away from Copart coming to take away my totaled 04 E55 and I finally got my check from insurance after a FIVE MONTH fight over the value. So I've been trying to figure out what to do. I was a GM guy but discovered Mercedes in 2020. My E55 was my first Euro car of any kind. I was looking at the W212 E63 and this video gave me a LOT to think about. Really good stuff.
Sounds like we have similar story, I started with Camaro, z06, ctsv then jumped to the e55, and of course this e63. I've since sold it.... Looked for months for anything else.... Bought another e63 lol I actually almost bought the 2800 Mile e55 on bring a trailer today tho
It is badass, no doubt, but the f10 M5 just is better and your car doesn't do 3.3 secs, don't claim it, prove it, I don't want to be telling you about the gadgets to prove that. It's a nice car but don't lie..
