This was very impressive. However I was unimpressed in the last 20 seconds when the winning horse turned right to be directly in front of his main competitors. Did the rider do that or did the horse do that on its own? It looks like the rider initiated that with his left hand starting at 1:03 up to 1:06. Start watching at 1:00. I don't know how they steer horses, but his left hand was being held steady against the left side of the horse's neck, which makes me think the rider was steering him to the right.

@jimmalachowsky4052
@jimmalachowsky4052 3 года назад
Marcus Jackson- The saddlecloth numbers always match the number on the gate. This is in case something happens right out of the gate the stewards will be able to tell which horse did what. Also, many tracks leave the stall nearest the rail unoccupied. It gives the "rail" horse a little more room to maneuver. In this race it looks like the #1 horse scratched, so the rail horse was the 2, and the 3 horse came out of the 2nd stall.
@jimmalachowsky4052

I'm totally confused! What I said above is how they do it in the states. Watching the race a few times, the horse who started in the 2 stall was wearing the #7 saddle cloth! Beats the hell out of me why! Makes no sense. This would never happen in the states.

@@christiankelly2927 Thanks for the info. I've played the horses over 40 years, of course all in the US. I've never seen a time where the number on the gate didn't match the saddlecloth number. It's even done to the point where if there is a scratch at the gate they will back the horses out and change the numbers on the gate and then reload. I prefer the US system, maybe because I'm used to it, but I still think it makes more sense. Anyway, again, thanks for the info, and Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄

The winning jockey save ground by sticking to the rail where all the other horses drifted out, and cut in on each other. Even at the end the winning horse bore out to be near the others. ran like his life depended on winning, could be one of Gordon Elliot's horses. Failure = death and Gordon posing on your corpse.

They were hitting the horses with the stick in hand to go fast. Not good

Shourjo Chaudhuri I race, and using the stick hard, keeps the horse focused.

No doubt if this horse had been beaten after blowing the start then many would have been crying 'fix' including a certain channel here on RU-vid. Or maybe it was a fix and the owners, trainers and jockeys of all the other runners were in on it too. Oh and apparently according to the Betfair forum, you cannot win racing up the inside at Southwell, plus if that had been a big name jockey on the winner, you would have had comments like: "No other jockey would've won on that other than.........". Insert name of jockey of choice.
