Peony is one of my favorite flowers! However, it's pretty challenging to make it out of wafer paper :)
In this tutorial I would like to share with you my method of creating this gorgeous peony! For this particular flower I used 50 small petals, 6 medium and 11 big ones.
Template:
drive.google.c...
Below I included a list of tools and materials I used to make wafer paper Peony. I constantly use all these products in the bakery in cake decorating and love them. This list contains affiliated Amazon links, and I may receive a small commission from qualifying purchases at no extra cost for you.
1) Wafer Paper: amzn.to/3vJu869
2) Floral Tape: amzn.to/3xzAK8S
3) Wire: amzn.to/3gOMGgY
Hope you will find this tutorial useful, and it will inspire you for new great sweet creations!

first of all thank you for showing it is very beautifully done. I still have a question is the material suitable for a tropical country 40 degrees. I'm afraid the flower will go limp the next day. advice please
@cheshirebakery5312
@cheshirebakery5312 3 года назад
Absolutely! Wafer paper is a hydrophobic material, but it's possible to find a way to use it for cake decoration. I would recommend to store wafer paper flowers in a tightly closed boxes. If you have too much moisture in the air, you can add a small silica bag to the box as well. Also, you may experiment with coloring liquid (by adding more or less water, vodka, or glycerin), try to color the petals with dry food coloring. You might like slightly different proportions working better for tropical climate. I recommend you to make a few simple flowers and leave some of them at room temperature, some - in the box), and check on them after a few weeks. It might be absolutely fine and no recipe adjustment needed. To be honest, I live in Seattle, and it's a very humid place in fall/winter season, but the flowers I made look absolutely fine, and can be stored for months! I haven't notice the temperature affecting the flowers or wafer paper.

Wire helps better adjust the petals around the center and make a desired shape. It is much easier to attach petals with wire. You can try to make the petals without the wire, but, most likely, you will need to cut more of larger petals to create a big open flower.
@ticarrar3779

Thank you so much for this!! They’re beautiful 😍 out of the 2 small sizes (25 petals each) did you use all of one first then use all of the other or did you alternate between them?
@cheshirebakery5312
@cheshirebakery5312 3 года назад
To make the flower look more realistic, I mix all small petals together, and attach them with no particular order. It may be 3 of one kind, then 2 of another, then 1, then 5, etc. I attach more curved cup shaped petals first, and then I add flatter petals to make the flower look like it’s slowly opening.

@cheshirebakery5312
@cheshirebakery5312 3 года назад
I used thin 26 gauge wire for the petals; however, wire of gauge 24, or 28 will also work great! I added a few drops of glycerin to water. Glycerin will make wafer paper softer and more pliable, that will prevent it from cracking. If you’d like the flower to be brighter, you can also add a tiny amount of gel food coloring into the mixture.

Po Lee Polly Lok I’m so happy that this tutorial inspired you to get started with wafer paper flowers! ❤️❤️ There is no any specific brands that I prefer (to be honest, I didn’t notice any significant difference between different brands). It’s important to use thin wafer paper, synthetic brushes and covered with cloth 22 or 26 gauge wire. You would also need petal dust, glycerin, small scissors, silicon peony petal veiner (optional), apple tray (or any plates, spoon that will help to create the shape of petals).

@@pollylok2536 So exciting! I'm looking forward to see the flower you will make! Please, feel free to ask me any questions. I'm more that happy to help! In my opinion, peony is one of the most difficult flowers to make. I would recommend you to play around with a few sheets of wafer paper to get the feeling how it behaves. It's very sensitive to water or any liquid, so it's very important to use slightly wet brush (it should be almost dry to touch). It's also possible to skip the veining part (peony will look great even without silicon mold). Good luck! Can't wait to see the peony you'll make! I'm so excited! :)

I like to use 50 small, 6 medium, and 11 - 16 large petals for this flower.

Where will I find these wafer sheets
@cheshirebakery5312
@cheshirebakery5312 3 года назад
I bought mine on Amazon. It is called Wafer Paper, and usually comes in a pack of 100 sheets. There are two kinds of wafer paper: thin and thick. To make flowers you will need thin wafer paper.

You haven’t put any stamens around the centre

That’s right. I didn’t add stamens because I wanted to make a closed peony. However, if you prefer an open flower, you can add some. Personally, I like to make them from the string, but store bought stamens work great as well.

Even the video took 21mins , cant imagine how long does she take to make one for real, thats why wafer paper flower is expensive

So true! It takes about 1 - 2 hours to make one flower like this one 🙂 Luckily, they are very easy to store, and can be done ahead of time.

Tutorials… you need to inform us those sizes and how many petals per size
@cheshirebakery5312
@cheshirebakery5312 Год назад
I have the template posted in video description, and it has the number of petals. The size of the petals is 1:1 ratio as the printed template on letter (or A4) size page.
