The second episode of the Waffle Cast, a new video podcast that is not only live but also completely disorganized. Designed to be enjoyed on your morning drive or evening cry.

We talk about my ongoing quest to adapt Symbaroum by ‪@FreeLeaguePublishing‬ into solo play, with a DEEP review of the Symbaroum Core book, GM book, Monster Codex, and Advanced PLayer's guide. At the end I also discuss the possibility of combining it with inputs from Trophy Dark and ESPECIALLY Trophy Loom (links to all below).

Finally I talk about my sadness over the bad reviews for Fallout TTRPG by ‪@Modiphius‬ which is super sad because I love modiphius and would have loved to try to adapt it to solo play because I love Fallout too! Once it is back in stock, not gonna lie I'm probably going to try it for myself.

A fair way I found when in doubt about balancing a game for solo play is to simply start the MC at a higher level, perhaps 1 or 2 lvls and give them a beginner scenario, you'll quickly figure out the balance this way and then be able to adjust it properly. Also love your vids man, love from Brazil

I think it's amusing that Challenge Rating from 5E gets absolutely shat on, and that some youtubers base their entire personas on the whole "OSR-balance-is-an-illusion", but e.g. Resistance is seen through a different lens. I've heard others refer to the Resistance idea as a good way to budget encounters... which is the same as CR. Anyway, I think both concepts are great for a combat-heavy scenario/campaign, and _especially_ for solo.

Great video! Actually I just started playing solo, and funny enough I'm playing Trophy Gold. I like the way that it's a very narrative game with easy rules, so I can use most of my brain power to learn soloing :) Gold has a nice mechanic where you have to collect enough gold to pay your "Burden" every time you return to town fra an adventure. Otherwise you just die (get imprisoned etc.), so you have to always push a bit further not just to pay your burdens but also to put something aside in your hoard to qreach your drive's goal at 50 gold (gold is abstracted by the way; Gold just means 1 treasure of some kind).

I think it would be cool to see you give Fallout 2d20 a look. I know you have seen bad reviews but from my understating the game has a relatively high barrier to entry because of crunchy survival mechanics but that it gets the feel of fallout right. I’m currently reading the book after watching the TV show and look forward to giving it a try. There is a very active online community supporting the game and making tools to reduce the crunch. Which is good because otherwise I think the crunch and record keeping for the game would be too much for me.

I played it solo and loved it, but I'm biased since I love fallout... I didn't find the survival mechanics too taxing though, but probably because I was playing the game in a smaller scale, meaning it would take less time to go from A to B and yes, the community is pretty awesome!

Velveeta is something you eat-a... 🧇 🧇 So in another comment thread I mentioned that I took PapAlone's advice and tried 4AD, and I played until my halfling named Dimple was down to 1 life point, and then I couldn't play anymore, mainly because I couldn't kill off my halfling named Dimple, but also because the setting just isnt for me, I dont think I'm much of a traditional dungeon delve kinda gal. But I learned a lot, and had fun while it lasted. And now I'm trying out a game called The Unseen World, in which you play a paranormal investigator who's just starting out in thier career in modern-day Japan. I'm making my character, and I rolled up the trait "streamer", which isn't something i would have thought up myself as a character background, so it should be fun thinking up a backstory, especially related to the ghosthunting thing.
