Years ago, I painted the entire outside of a three story house with a power sprayer and lots of scrap cardboard (to limit over spray). I, also, painted all the inside walls and ceiling with a power roller. awesome painting system. You have done did good. keep it up.
Hey, little tip, cardboard works better sliding between the fence panel and gravel board than sheets. You can easily slide the cardboard through with one hand while holding the panel up slightly 👍🏼 Thanks for the review.
You can also use these air based Wagner paint sprayers to spray insect repellent around your yard it works great. You just have to lay off the trigger because it’s water-based and thin but it really does the job!
Thank you Vikkie. We just got one of these but I thought that I would watch your video to give me some idea of how it works in real life 🙂 All the best. Any Barge videos in the pipeline?
Thanks, Sian :) If I knew I'd been a good little brownie and cleaned it thoroughly after each use, then there would definitely be a few choice words 😂 I'd used it a LOT over the last year before this whole rampage of staining, but never the decking, so have saved so many hours. BUT it was pure luck they were interchangeable :D
Hi. Good job. I've always painted those concrete posts with same fence stainer. It covers well and doesn't come off. Just incase you wanted them same colour as panels. Great vids. All the best. Take care. 👍👌😊
Yellow! Autumn gold is Orange! I should know as I've been painting my fences and shed with it since 2007. I like this colour as its much brighter than most other garden paints and it does tone down from out of the tin. I would only use ducks back although it tends to work better on rough sawn wood like fence panels than planed wood like sheds. So the latter needs repainting more often. I only use a brush though as I'm not brave enough to use a sprayer as I just imagine the conversation with the neighbour re their new orange car! Good job, looks much better than it did before.
Ideally, you keep the gun moving, and 'trigger' it off for a moment as you change direction - also keeping the gun as parallel to the work as possible. The more even the coat, maybe the less coats you need to do?
When mixing paint for sprayer or any other use, get some tube, or dowel about 10mm or what will fit in drill chuck, 1 milk bottle top (plastic) cut clot in rod and cut off wall of top, slide top into slot in wood, drive nail, screw or anything else to hold it in, put in drill, you now have paint mixer. If get container with narrow neck just cut width, it will still work. When mixing paint or stain move mixer up and down to get better mix. Cheap and cheerful and it works I did try and use it
You're getting good with your intros, Vikkie. ;-D Painting decking and fencing... I can't imagine anyone enjoys it! I painted my mum's decking last year (with a brush) in two or three coats and the winter we had stripped it off again. That was Ronseal... But I hope you'll have greater success. All the spindles and handrails are fine, still. I don't look forward to another couple of days on my knees. ;-)
Thanks Olly 😊 I'm not looking forward to masking taking everything up again next year but it was nice to work in some lovely weather and away from my laptop for a change!
I loved this video! You covered a lot of “ground” lol, funny joke there. Anyway, I appreciate all the extra time you took to make and edit this video. I know it must have took a long time. I have been thinking about buying one of those sprayers and had been looking for a good review with video I could see and make a decision. Here you are!! Good job on everything and good thinking on swapping the sprayers too. Take care and be safe.
Thanks! 😀 Thankfully it was my fiance who suggested trying to swap over the sprayers, but didn't for one second expect the reservoir to also fit as apart from the screw, they are different in size. Just don't do what I do and work until your shattered or really hungry, then leave cleaning for another day lol. I'm curious how easy it cheap it is to buy the head part on its own on eBay etc!
The Carpenter's Daughter LOL, I don't know the ratio in your money and mine but I looked just briefly on Amazon and the whole thing is between 62lb-120lb. Thanks for all your candor in your videos too. They are so much fun to watch! God luck in finding your head assembly part!
When doing panels like this if you can lift them slightly to make a small gap push cardboard through its saves lots of time in masking up the bottom and if the card is wide enough it stops it dripping paint on the ground
Just bought a Wagner. It made light work of two long fences. I would like to have seen how you tackled the trellis at the top without repainting the neighbours lawn . Painting the trellis is a pain, slow and fiddly with a brush.
I'm pretty sure I just used the yellow paint guard. I found the over spray wasn't that much, but it's just grass on the neighbour's side. I would've been much more particular if it was paved.
Yaaaaaaay more dancing! Haha instantly made me laugh whilst I'm in bed being blerugh during ladies week! :) ❤️ can't wait to see your videos for 2019! Hope you had a lovely Christmas and new year!
Good video as always ,I love your humour . never used a sprayer in my life always done 2 coats with brush . glad you went for the ducks back in the end as per our chat on twitter a while back . keep the vids flowing 👍👍👍
Thanks 😁😁 It's a decent and really is waterproof. I forgot to add a clip showing water beads not sinking in 🙈 Oh well 😀 I'll definitely oil beforehand next time 😊
The exact same thing just happened to the nozzle on mine today - a bit of it broke off. I've only used it a couple of times over the past two weeks. It may have been caused by some paint left on the nozzle from the last time I used it. For anyone looking to get one of these: take the time to read the manual because part of the cleaning process involves disassembling the sprayer when cleaning it.
Thanks for the feedback and have pinned it to help others. But what a pain!! I used mine quite a lot last year - mostly on fence panels, so feel I got my money's worth, but I'd be well annoyed if I were you! I need to look for the manual again.
@@dickhead402 Even with acrylic oil-based stain? I've got a big project this weekend and I'm thinking of using my new paint sprayer to handle the railing since it's very complex and using a brush would take all weekend. I'm trying to do this project before the July 4th weekend
Love your videos vikkie I looked at the wagner system and bought a paint zoom and even though it's a cheap version it works fantastic great job well done there
The Carpenter's Daughter I don’t, sorry. There’s a small gap between each fence board (I used 6ft x 4in boards) so it should have been fairly obvious that any spray would go through those gaps, the overspray has also covered our side of the fence so I’m going to have to stain it again. Mind you, it was a job I should have done long before now so it may not be too bad a thing 😉
Rest assured, I have now thrown my 10p jumble sale B&Q trousers away lol. I am not associated with them in any way, but feeling the need to type this each time I wore them while filming was hassle enough lol.
Pauly H lol, I suppose but couldn't be bothered 😂 I do plan to buy some nice ones soon. I tried blacking it out previously with permanent marker, but it came out in the wash 🤨😁
Sometimes it's just as easy to lift the panels out from the concrete posts, lay them on a big sheet. Soak them and stand up to dry.. slide them back in from the top.
Dale....great blockbuster intro! And you got your wiggles in early on! I was thinking that the kit looked a bit flimsy. Then came the part about the nozzle. Is it a tool that would last? 🤔
Haha... I suppose it is Blockbuster-ish 😂 It doesn't feel flimsy, but I think I read that burn out is more likely with the indoor type ones without the air compressor. I hadn't seen one review on Amazon that had the same experience as me, but not sure anyone's used it as much before sharing what they thought. I've also used it on my other fencing and gate prior to this, although should have washed the nozzle 😜 If you ever want to borrow it, then you're more than welcome 😉
Really helpful video thank you, but one thing was that you said you’d share your thoughts on Cuprinol Ducks Back but you never did. I’ve just bought this spray gun and duck back sprayable paint so will be giving it a try....
The label on ducks back states 5 years which implies it lasts 5 years before needing another coat.... This video is now 4 years old how is it holding up!? Or have you applied a fresh coat more frequently?
4:14 and 4:24 butcrack and wal your getting up ther.you sometimes come close to showing it and sometimes u show a little and this one of them just saying
Great review. I think if I could I would have lifted those panels out and had a spraying area setup, would have saved even more time masking up and that way you also get all the edges.
Hi,, Great work,, living and decorating outside is now the norm,, can i ask about the decking paint.. i have just started using a sprayer,, did you dilute the decking paint and if so what did you use ,, water or spirits ?i need to do my own decking and i have the same paint,, ??
Did you clean your fence before staining? I was going to pressure wash mine but it takes forever and I have about 240 feet of fence ... Was wondering if I can just stain it... The fence is about 5 years old... What's your opinion?
How does the paint look now and have you had to repaint it every 6, 12 months or so? So you'd recommend using a preservative first and then a coloured water based stain? Ronseal or Cuprinol?
Better still, find a preservative with a colour. That's what I plan to do in the future. Although it may say on the can it's not recommended with a sprayer due to it being toxic. And again, it may say on the tin how often wood needs treating, but I think every 12 months is best. I didn't do it at all last year, so best get on it!
Cheap tools & materials represent the single biggest mistake DIYers make when approaching these types of projects. Tools are not an expense, they are an investment that you can sell once the job is done, and in the end it will cost less than renting. Best budget HVLP Systems: 1st choice: Fuji 2202 Semi-PRO 2 ($439) & 2nd choice: Earlex HV5500 ($299).
I do say in the video. I recommend them, particularly for big jobs. What I forgot to say is that I've been using it for months on other jobs. It's just a shame the spout got damaged in this video, but glad they're interchangeable.
I think the first batch I added 10% water. There's a measure on a stirrer with mine, but I didn't think it needed it in the end, so sprayed it pure after that.
Why oh why do deck installers in the UK insist on putting the grooves of the decking boards on the top side..? Grrrr... they are meant to go on the underside for airflow to help dry out the wood after rain and bad weather!
Great video. Thanks. So do you mean the ronseal fencelife product only colours the wood. It doesn’t protect because it doesn’t have Preservative in its description? If yes, I’ve wasted a few hours and effort to paint my fence!!!
Thanks! Quite possibly. I've just used One Coat Fence Life on some tanalised timber purely for colour and can't see preservative mentioned on my tub anywhere. Mine also says safe with pets, so am guessing it's not a preservative.
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK I guess the show is quite niche. Incredibly underrated. It's actually my second favourite show of all time after trailer park boys. Annnnnnd now I have to watch them all through again haha
I used mine for the first time at the weekend. It stopped spraying even when there was 500ml left in the reservoir. I'm wondering if mine is faulty. But I noticed that the tube doesn't go all the way to the bottom.
Mine did the same, Check it's not blocked with the pin ya get with it and also spray at a slight angle so the hose is in the paint in the reservoir all the time while you have the trigger on.. that seemed to fix the issue with mine
@@anthonywykes4015 I worked it out. The hose needs to be pointing forwards and not back or towards the sides. But the big problem I have with this sprayer is that I needed to refill it after spraying every panel. This was a really pain as the paint I was using was Ronseal Fence Life Plus is life gel and makes a big mess when filling the reservoir. The bigger Wagner airless sprayers are excellent apparently and you insert the hose directly into the tube but they are very expensive!
Very good question... Very very likely! I was going to mention it, but someone told me not to bother. If it were good condition and they had finished renovating themselves (they've not long been in with lots to do too), then I probably would have mentioned it.
I wasted money on a sprayer because even tho the stain was the same make as the sprayer it didn't work because the stain wasn't a sprayable spray. The stain really should have said you can use it in a sprayer.
a tiny bit but in a hilarious way while I know you only do decorating or woodwork on this channel I would love to find out how you trained your handsome tri boy if that were possible somehow
