Hi Jason. Thanks for the very useful videos. You are quite right, Old Crow vary their Wagon Wheel performances a lot. I timed their gig in Bonorroo 2005 and there were 3 fiddle breaks, song lasting 4.47 mins. In 2013 at The Americana Music Festival there were 4 fiddle breaks, song lasting 4.28 mins......So fiddle dee dee!

Well, i finally got a fiddle a couple of months ago, i have been wanting to do this for years. Ive been playing guitar for around 30 years, banjo about 18 years, steel guitar for 15 and been a working musician for a good long time. I really like your teaching style, very layed back but your very clear in conveying yourself, and i checked out ALOT of the fiddlers on you tube. I gotta say its taken me longer than i thought to start making sounds that didnt resemble cats raping each other but i finally can thanx to you! The further i go the more i am completely serious about this. At first i wanted to learn it cause i was curious and liked the way it sounded, now i can tell its gonna be like guitar and ill be playing and learning till the end, i love it!(plus i 'm betting gigs will come to me more having the edge of knowing this instrument too. Thanx man, i appreciate you doing this.

@@fiddl3hed ah, that’s so good of you to reply with encouragement. Thanks! 😀 Drone notes, I presume you mean playing an open sting and a fretted string at the same time? I’ll definitely try that! I’m doing ok with the left hand(just ok though 😅), for simple scales anyway. The hardest part for me is controlling the bow. It’s bouncing and screeching all over the place! This is both the most beautiful and most disgusting instrument I’ve ever heard. 😂

I think it would be awesome if you put out more tutorials for the country fiddle tunes since there are practically no resources out for that. @fiddl3hed
@fiddl3hed 7 лет назад
In standard tuning (GDAE) fourth finger on each string would be DAEB. H3 on each string would be C# (G#/A flat) (D#/ Eflat) (A#/B flat).

Love your videos. Question: are your fiddles in standard tuning? I tune mine using any number of online violin tuners. It sounds in tune--but when I play along with you, we seem to be 1/2 step off from one another, or even less than that. We don't seem to be tuned the same. Would that be a digital/wav thing coming through the computer, or are we just tuned differently? One day I hope to play with a group :)Love that you're sharing your knowledge and talent with us. Thank you so much!
@fiddl3hed

@kelkanich

The high playing on G-string is so hard for me-I'm quite small in stature-barely 5ft- and short arms and fingers to match. I'm finding this makes playing high really tough. I'm trying to experiment with adjusting fiddle hold forward & bringing elbow in closer to front of body to even barely reach these notes. Its like a torture hold- I hope to hell it will get easier or I'm throwing the fiddle in the fireplace and going to get a massage!

@theaidanmann
@theaidanmann 4 года назад
Wayne Petrevan They are tapes that beginners put on their instrument to know where to place their fingers when they play. The tapes are usually taken off after a few months once the player knows where to place their fingers. Same with the tape on the bow, it’s used to know the ideal place to bow. I’m guessing he is using them just so that the viewer to see what he’s playing.
