Maharaja barbs (Waikhomia sahyadriensis) are one of the prettiest barbs from the Western Ghats. Compared to the other barbs, they have some unique behavior. Similar to some cichlids the males hold and defend their territories close to the banks of the stream and when bred in captivity, I have noticed that the fry do stay around the parents but there is no parental care as such shown.
Based on a recent paper, the erstwhile Puntius sahyadriensis was placed into a genus of its own (Waikhomia) with two species (sahyadriensis and hira).

Great video Sir. I keep a large group of Devario aequipinnatus and they are one of my favorite fish. I think you have helped me decide what I am going to do with my first true biotope tank. I was wondering if you would be able to identify the fish that swims across the frame between 1:58 and 2:00. Thanks in advance.

Looks like he is guarding just a clear patch without much debris!?,... Is this important for courtship or breeding itself?

Agumbe-is it the name of this mountain stream or the name of a village that is located somewhere near this mountain stream? What river flows the mountain stream (or river, felts brook!?) Agumbe? I want to clarify this for myself for sure.

This mountain stream is most likely home to the small freshwater snail Cremnoconchus agumbensis!? It is, like, endemic to these places in India!?
