I’ve ALWAYS wanted an explorer. To me, among all the Gibson (Or Epiphone) models, it’s got the most clarity, bite and OUTPUT, which to me are extremely important. It’s one Gibson (or epiphone) that can stand alone if you have to own only one guitar. Check out THE EDGE ofU2, when they started, all he had was the EXPLORER! Awesome guitar! 😊

I'm glad you addressed the pickups. I was wondering if it was me, but the pickups are dark and lack clarity. I put a set of passive EMG H2's in an Epiphone Les Paul Custom that plays like a dream, and now sounds amazing too. Looks like I will be upgrading my Explorer as well!

This thing is ace. I've been lucky enough to play a couple of explorers in guitar shops and have found them particularly intriguing - having that huge flat surface under your right arm definitely pushes you to play differently!!

Okay, that's probably the best intro that you've ever did. And yes, Epiphones are awesome nowadays. They used to not be that way but now they are great. I have both Gibson's and Epiphones and I like them just as much. If somebody were to ask me which to buy I would tell them to save their money and get an Epiphone.

I’ve never owned an Explorer. Just never willing to take the plunge on something I wasn’t sure I’d really love. But I played an older one in a local shop last week and was pleasantly surprised. This would make a great addition to the collection.

Gibson is pure garbage for the price. We're living in the golden age of gear right now. Guitarists listening to blind tests are saying a $250 Harley Benton is the $5000 Gibson. Lololol.

I know there are many other guitarists before him who played Explorers or Explorer copies, but for me, Claudio Sanchez from Coheed and Cambria is the definitive Explorer player. He’s written so many awesome riffs and leads over the years on his various Explorers. For as big as they are, I’m always taken aback by how comfortable they are to play.

I've always wanted an explorer since I was a kid. Seeing guys like Allen Collins and James Hetfield play one, as well as EVH with his Shark guitar. Even though his was an Ibanez copy, it was still the same style of guitar. I always thought it was one of the coolest shapes.

Matthias Jabs, lead guitarist of the Scorpions was and still is an influence for me, so naturally the Explorer guitar was my wish list guitar. I have this crazy instinct in my head that I could be a better player if I was playing on an Explorer. I know I would practice more. Love your videos.

I've had two Explorers. One was an Epiphone and the other was a Hamer Standard. Both felt, sounded, looked and played very similar to each other and both nailed that sound with JB's in the bridge and SH2's in the neck. Had to sell both due to finances being limited. So, I'd love to get another.

Definitely wouldn’t mind having this one! Fun lil Explorer story! Back in 2007 I caught the Rockstar Metal Mayhem fest in Fresno, Ca. Saw so many awesome bands that day, drank way too much caffeine for a 14 year old boy🤣 but one of the best moments was during the band Airborne’s set, the singer jumped into the pit to shred a solo on his ‘84 Explorer and as he was flailing about I took the headstock straight to the forehead and wound up flat on my ass! He jumps back on stage and finishes the song, and calls me out from the crowd to cheers me with a solo cup full of Jäger as he threw it in the crowd for me to chug! My ears were ringing and I definitely had the Explorer headstock shape imprinted on my forehead the rest of the day😂 I’ll never forget that, and having another explorer would definitely make the memory stand out that much more🎉

Probably my all time favorite metal guitar shape. Love the exployer, never had one, always wanted one . Keep up the amazing content. Always glued to everything you put out there. As far as the first riff I would play I don't know.... maybe High and dry.

A few years ago Gibson made the “Explorer Pro” which is actually slightly scaled down around the body (Trogly’s guitar show did a side by side comparison), be great if Epiphone made some of these for smaller guitarists to get their Explorer on. (There was also a V Pro, but I don’t think they did a Firebird Pro).

First riff would be a Morbid Angel riff back from the era when Trey played a Hamer EX style, and Erik Rutan at the time played his black Gibson Explorer, retrofitted with a Floyd in the place of the tune-o-matic bridge.

First thing I would swap is the Tune-o-matic for TonePros. My daughter's Muse has the ToneLock hardware and it just feels flimsy (despite being a cool design). The tone in Robert's video is great (as always) though I would roll my tone back a smidge to curb some of the brightness (especially having A2 magnets with medium-high gain). Good stuff.

Man oh man. The Explorer always makes me think of early U2. Straight out of the box I would almost certainly try that high, hammering riff from "I Will Follow," or maybe the big ringing chords from "Out of Control."

I have Pro Buckers in an Epiphone Les Paul and they sound great. They aren’t Burst Buckers but if you haven’t the coin for the high end stuff, Pro Buckers are not a bad place to be.

Hey Robert, I purchased an Epiphone Les Paul from Sweetwater and I am very happy with it. Sounds just like the more expensive Gibson Les Paul models, but the Epiphone is lighter and easier to take to shows. I love Epiphone, because the classic rock tone is there!

I had a black explorer back in the 80s but a broken headstock was the end of that. I would play the first song I played on the last one “ The Zoo” Matthias Jabs and his explorer always rocked.

The Explorer body style is always amazing to hold and play. Epiphone quality has definitely come a long way. I still love the Gibson as well. I would like to know if the pick ups are quick connect for easy swap. The fretboard material is a little dissapointing in my opinion however but i'm sure alot of lemon oil could fix that.
