Nice workaround. But in my opinion, all colors in all visuals should have the option to set with a condition. Using colors plays a major role in story telling. Voting for it on the idea page doesn't seem to make a big impact since some of the ideas have been open for multiple years.
Sometimes these kinds of tricks make me wanna smash my PC. Seriously. Power BI is supposed to be a sophisticated BI tool. These features should be built in.
Agree. It goes not only for line chart but also stacked column bars or combo charts. Insanity that we can't conditionally control color coding. Such a basic functionality 😊
Thanks for that little trick! A month ago I needed such thing which I couldn't figure out and have done the formating manually. Glad to know it now which will help in the future.
It works great for your specific use case. But what if I have many lines in my line chart, and want to conditionnally format each one of them ? It doesn't work anymore, as the formatting option disappear even from the bar plot visual !
Hey, when changing my data from a line chart to any bar charts, conditional formatting is still unavailable. Do you know any other methods that can help get around this issue? I've watched several videos on this but I keep occurring the same issue.
I hope Conditional Formatting becomes a Standard feature and not a hack. And, "Begin Arrow type" and "End Arrow type" to show a Trend - like in Excel ... or the 'Guy in a Cube store' T-shirt 🙂
Has anyone tried this lately in PBI Desktop? I just tried this (August 2024,) starting with a stacked column chart, and there is NO conditional color formatting of the columns?!?!
It's not straight forward but if you save the report as a .pbip file you should be able to find the property in the report.json file and change it there.
This feels like a hack. I want the line color to change, not just the point color to change. Please do a video on Charticulator that can actually do this.
Genuine question. When the line goes from a point that is one colour to a point that is a different colour which of the two colours should the line be? Or do you want the line to change colour at the tipping point? A line is not a value it's just connecting two values. Thats probably why it's not native.
@@hertor8803 You have a good point. But we should at least have the option to set the whole line color to a field value, like you can do in a column chart. I have a line and column chart where I can set the column color to a field value, but not the line color.
You're kidding me. Now we need to vote for an obvious option that's basically already implemented? I was searching for this lately and couldn't find it. Now you're telling me MS has implemented it, but kind of hidden the option away? Or is this some kind of bug that can be abused to work as a normal function? In any case not a good example for understanding use cases or usability. Thanks for making our lives easy as always, MS...
Could you please share the dax you are using? Shame conditional formatting doesn’t work if you have anything in legend… please tell me there is a trick for this too!!! this just makes me laugh 😂 you want to do something obvious? No, that won’t be possible 😂
