Martha plays Ariadne in the school play, i think it might be good to know the story of Ariadne and Theseus from Greek mythology: Minos, son of Zeus and Europa, living on the island of Crete, asked his uncle Poseidon (God of the sea) to grant him a miracle in order to become king of Crete, because the succession to the throne was in question. He promised that if Poseidon made it clear that he was to become king, he would sacrifice any animal that appears from the ocean for Poseidon. Poseidon, flattered by this idea, made a magnificient white bull emerge from the waves, a true miracle to witness, thus enabling Minos to become the king of Crete. However, Minos liked the bull so much that he sacrificed a lesser bull from his herd for Poseidon, keeping the white bull. Poseidon, upon noticing this deceit, became grim and angry, and cursed Minos' wife Pasiphaë with an irresistible urge to mate with the bull. So Pasiphaë had the inventor Daedalus construct a wooden cow with a cowhide covering, for her to hide inside and offer herself to the bull. Out of this act, she gave birth to the Minotaur (Minos-taurus): A being with features of both a man and a bull, that grew into a man-eating monster over time. Minos wanted to have the Minotaur killed, for its existance alone was proof of his wife's misconduct. But his daughter Ariadne asked Minos to let the Minotaur live. Minos agreed, but had Daedalus create a labyrinth and banished the Minotaur there. Minos later got word that one of his sons had died in a fight with the white bull, supposedly because King Aegeus of Athens told the son that he should test his battle skills against the bull. Minos, on a campaign of vengeance because of this, defeated the Athenians, and imposed a gruesome tribute on them: Every nine years, seven youths and maidens were to be sent into the labyrinth and devoured by the Minotaur, in order to prevent further doom for Athens. Before the third sacrifice was supposed to happen, Theseus, son of King Aegeus, volunteered to end the cruel practice. Theseus sailed with the other youths and maidens from Athens to Crete, with a black sail on their ship, on a mission to kill the Minotaur living in the labyrinth. Theseus promised his father Aegeus to hoist a white sail upon his return, which would signal a successful mission. Arriving on Crete, they had to surrender their weapons. But he met Minos' daughter Ariadne, and they fell madly in love. She gave him a sword and a ball of red thread, to tie one end to the entrance of the labyrinth, so he could find his way out again. After killing the Minotaur with Ariadne's sword, he indeed found his way out of the labyrinth by following Ariadne's thread. Mission sucessful, him and Ariadne left Crete together, heading back towards Athens, but first making a stop on the island of Naxos. Now there are different accounts. Fact is, Theseus left Ariadne there and sailed on without her. But - either due to distress about his lost love, due to still being overjoyed about his killing of the Minotaur, or due to wrath of the Gods for abandoning Ariadne - he forgot to hoist the white sail on his ship. His father Aegeus, waiting at Cape Sounion for his return, saw the black sail from atop the cliff, and thought that his son had not survived. Out of sorrow, he plunged himself into the sea, which was henceforth known as the Aegean Sea. In the play, Martha takes off her white gown, underneath is a black dress. The whole play is full of symbolism.

People have to realize you can’t just stop reacting to dark and pick up a year later. Of course you’re going to be confused. This is a show that demands your undivided attention. It’s easy to miss things.

Good to see you back. It almost seems like you two traveled straight foward for a year while the rest of us had to take the long way round.

4:30 I really like the way you advance into this discussion on determinism vs non-determinism. The show really invites you to do so. Sadly many other time travel pieces only discuss the "be careful what you wish for" trope with a preemptive declaration that time is non-deterministic.

6:18 It is mostly casting and a bit of hair and make up... it is also interesting that we finally see these two characters together in episode 6.

7:05 Remember in the beginning of episode 3 when Mikkel enters the Nielsen home in 1986 Jana, his grandmother, is still distraught over the disappearance of Mads, his uncle.

7:30 I love how especially Katharina reminds the audience of the timeframe of the show. Mikkel went missing on the eve of Nov 4th 2019. In episode 4 she remarks towards Ulrich that it has been about 36 hours making that Nov 6th 2019(and in the process she reminds people that Mikkel found the newspaper of Nov 5th 1986 at the end of episode 2). Episode 4 depicted Nov 6th, episode 5 depcited Nov 7th, and now we are here at Nov 8th as Katharina reminds us.

7:48 Yeah this family is establied really slow and in the background. When Hannah talks to Aleksander (remember she massaged him?) I belive we saw a family picture of the three. And I would have to go back (in time) to see if you thought that there was some kind of amber alert in episode one. As I often point out after Mikkel is lost there are five teens at the bridge, Jonas, Magnus, Martha, Franziska, and Bartosz, and there are five parents called/texted: Hannah, Ulrich, Katharina, Charlotte, and Regina. Regina also meets up with Bartosz at the briddge later. But we only saw Aleksander in context of the power plant until this cold open shows him with Regina.

I know it's an old reaction but I'm literally in awe how long you guys discussed who could've taken the letter when the simplest solution is that Ines, Michael's father, just found the body. She's family people, why would you not assume the grandma couldn't have been around the family house? Jfc LOL
