A trip to South Wales to try and catch the first delivery of Class 66's which were being shipped over to Newport Docks and would take centre stage at the EWS/Toton Railfair a few days later.
On a glorious day 56126 passes slowly through with an empty MGR, 47768 heads the 5M06 Bristol Temple Meads-Swansea empty mail vans, 47759 is seen with the 6C38 Newport ADJ-Pontralis timber train, 37903 works the 6Z57 Llanwern-Cardiff Docks train conveying stone for the Cardiff Docks barrage project and 60057 passes with the 6B13 Robeston-Westerleigh loaded bogie tanks.
Having been recently returned to service after a time in store, 37906 is seen with the 6Z52 Cardiff Docks-Llanwern. This was the first week of this short term, three week long working. This was followed by 56036 on a Grange Sidings-Llanwern loaded MGR, 09105 trundling past with a trip working to Llanwern, the driver of 60004 applying the power at the head of a rake of empty steel coil wagons, 60054 loses out to a Class 158 in the race through Newport station as the driver slows to drop his mate off while 60053 passes behind with the 7B52 Port Talbot-Llanwern.
60036 heads East with the 6M86 Margam-Dee Marsh, 60018 passes light engine followed by 47492 and a tatty rake of engineers wagons, 37673 and 37674 are then seen running out of Godfrey Road Sidings before heading to Alexandra Dock Junction to work the 6C20 to Hallam comprising of one VGA wagon.
37429 trundles by with a short engineers train, 60017 heads the 6B52 Llanwern-Port Talbot empty iron ore train, 56041 accelerates through the station with a rake of emtpy BAA and BFA steel carrying wagons, 60089 heads the 6B25 Westerleigh-Robeston empty bogie tanks, 56036 is seen again with a Llanwern-Grange Sidings empty MGR, 59004 is seen on a Port Talbot-Llanwern train and 47764 passes with the 5S09 Bristol Temple Meads-Cardiff empty TPO.
37114 and 37023 are seen with the Agrevo weedkilling train, 60054 runs out of Godfrey Road Sidings as 47768 passes with the 1M06 Swansea-Willesden mail and 37429 is seen again with an engineers train from Alexandra Dock Junction.
56069 passes with an unknown working, 60073 runs light engine into Godfrey Road Sidings, 56127 is seen following a London Paddington bound HST up the same platform before running into Godfrey Road Sidings, 37906 passes with the 6Z53 Llanwern-Cardiff Docks loaded stone train, 60054 heads a Llanwern-Ebbw Vale loaded steel coil train as 37903 passes behind and Mainline Intercity liveried 47523 heads through with the 6M14 Newport ADJ-Wembley.
56069 is seen an hour after it headed East with a different rake of wagons, 56126 heads the 6B54 Grange Sidings-Llanwern loaded MGR, 37798 is seen with the 6V34 Fawley-Margam, 59004 is seen again with the now empty iron ore wagons from Llanwern and 56085 catches the evening sun with a short train of Fiat cars from Italy-Avonmouth via the Channel Tunnel then on to Alexandra Dock Junction.
Despite the rumours that 37403, 66001, 66003, 66004 and 66005 were at Newport Docks they never passed whilst I was at Newport. They went through early the following morning.
