WAJDA PHOTO: Real World Experience - Seneca 5x7 Camera
My experimental photo with the 5x7 (I didn't have a cable release long enough or a self-timer that would work, so I tripped the shutter, ran into the shot, held still for a few seconds, ran back and closed the shutter.): images.squares...

Love my Seneca Improved black enameled beauty - Although they had another model Seneca they called "Black Beauty". The most advanced 5x7 field camera designed in my opinion. Do you shoot green or blue x-ray film? Ps: The 8 1/2" commercial ektar is an absolutely wildly sharp lens.

It's the Kodak so I think it's blue and double sided. I've gone to film more these days. Arista 400 or Ilford HP5.

The Seneca looks a lot likethe Kodak 2D. I have one on the way to use to shoot Harmon direct positive paper.

@@kennethwajda Under natural light it’s fairly easy. Studio strobes are a challenge I’ll be taking up. ISO is 3!

I have an improved century which is for all intents and purposes the exact same. I agree with all of your points. the 5x7 is a perfect play camera since it is big enough contact printing for cyanotype, salt printing, etc. I have had mine a year and only had to tape up some bellows to ensure light tightness. Mine has a Packard shutter which is a hoot to use. I think I'll have to invest in a filter system to deal with my limited shutter speeds. Great thing about the Packard is the barrel lens options! All part of the fun.

Beautiful Camera. Is that cherrywood? I once didn't buy a 5X7 camera at a pawn shop because I didn't have an enlarger large enough. Did not think about contact printing. Your comments of the perfect size with a wide white border makes a whole lot of sense!

You can find them pretty inexpensively. I really think it's an ideal size. I would guess it's mahogany, but not sure.
