What I love about the ending, with Toussaint and the point of him being raised in Haiti, is the fact that Toussaint is actually the name of our freedom fighters of Haiti which soon became the first successful slave revolt EVER. So, Toussaint being raised in Haiti means he gets to understand what his name means and the weight it carries (which is great foreshadowing).

It hits harder when movies aline with real life. Was in a hospital hoping my dad would pull through but then got the news of his chances of making it. Cried a cry I never heard myself. Then he passed days after. Almost cried in the theaters. But I’m good now. Our loved ones that passed on into the next life would want us to enjoy the time we have left in this life. Wakanda Forever! Namor was like that in the comics, too. Arrogant, hated the surface world, ruler of his undersea kingdom, flipping from "evil" to "good," and back, but his motivations were understandable. About the only thing the MCU changed about Namor was his origin and the origin of his people. Both T'challa and Shuri had to go through learning how to combat the obsession for revenge. It made T'challa a better king, but Shuri lost too much. She knew she wasn't in a fit state to take the throne. I'm glad she has Nakia. They can comfort each other. R.I.P. Chadwick. You are missed.

I like how Coogler put in the line from Queen Ramonda to Shuri about the importance of burning her burial clothing being that it would help her way to a new connection or understanding of T'Challa... Then in the end when she does she meets her Nephew and it does exactly that.

I loved this film, and while there are things that are flawed about the movie, I think given the circumstances of not only losing a lead in a film but losing a character that Marvel was planning on making a key component of, I think it turned out phenomenal. For sort of a comic viewpoint: Traditionally, Namor and his people are Atlanteans. That's pretty much all you need to know. They're kind of nondescript and don't really matter outside of stories with Namor. Namor is Marvel's first mutant and is an important part of the Marvel universe not only because of his power, but because of his domain (the ocean). His character often leans grey overall as a lot of his motivation is similar to what we see here- his people. In the comics, we do see him at extremes from time to time. Coogler added flavor by tying them to a time period and a culture and ethnic background. While I'm sure some people were offended/annoyed, Atlanteans have always just been a footnote to Namor. Now, they have some appeal as a place.
@paulkondon
@paulkondon Год назад
When Toussaint was introduced at the end as being not just Nakia's son, but Prince T'Challa, it reminded me that was what Ramonda wanted to tell Shuri at the lake mourning ritual before Namor interrupted. If Shuri knew about her nephew, and later that she wasn't the last of her family, it could have made her choices easier. Instead, she remained full of hate after her mother died, too, letting Killmonger appear instead of Ramonda. But, she may have needed that anger to plan to develop the pervaporator to use on Namor, as it is particularly brutal. The interesting question now is will M'Baku be king, while Shuri stays the Black Panther separately. I'm wondering if the heart-shaped herb will work properly on someone other than the royal family.

I was going to bring this up too! I didn’t notice the connection until rewatching here. And another little hint is that when Ramonda visits Nakia the first time, to ask her to go to Talokan for Shuri, Toussaint is one of the little kids bringing her to Nakia. He is holding her hand…we as the audience don’t know it so we don’t pick up on it, but it shows he’s familiar with his grandmother

I saw this in the cinema and I swear I didn't stop weeping until well after the opening logo...they gave Chadwick a beautiful send-off. Black Panther is very quickly becoming my favourite series within the MCU...both installments are fucking perfect. My favourite 'fun fact' about this whole movie is that the line "You bald-headed demon" was 100% an ad-lib by Winston Duke. M'Baku is probably my favourite supporting character in the whole series.

I've been waiting for you to post this for so long, Mary. I was starting to wonder whether you'd seen it at the cinema, like I did. But your reaction was worth the wait, and then some. It's no wonder your channel is one of my favourites for MCU reactions. Just to put your mind at ease about Namor's name: Since the character first appeared in the predecessor to Marvel Comics (ages ago), his name has been pronounced 'NAY-more'. And in the movie, nearly every character besides himself pronounces it that way too, so anyone can be excused for doing the same. The new pronunciation is unique to this film, to go along with Namor's updated ethnicity and origins. And in the comics as well, he's often been a morally ambiguous figure. He started out mostly as a villain, albeit with some sense of justice, before eventually teaming up with the Allies in WW2. Even since then, however, it's been hard for him to shake his anti-hero tendencies. One of his nicknames in the Marvel Comics is "The Avenging Son". As you can see, it definitely applies to his MCU incarnation as well. Keep up the great work!

Quite a few of the villains in the MCU have been "gray" villains. People who have been wronged, or have seen others wronged, and are trying to fight what from their perspective is a good and decent fight, and we are allowed to see and empathize with where they're coming from. But the way they go about reaching their goal of justice too often gets others hurt, or is soured by being about vengeance more than justice. Killmonger was like that, which is part of why his appearance in Shuri's vision is so powerful: he had a point, from a certain point of view, and if she had chosen just slightly differently, she might have gone down his path. Namor has a point; he is trying to protect his people. The main antagonists in Falcon and the Winter Soldier were fighting for their people, for justice. Yet they chose to fight dirty, fight to kill, fight in a way that good and decent people (the heroes) could not abide, even if they were conflicted by essentially agreeing with their point of view, if not their methods. That's part of what makes the MCU and the stories that it tells so powerful. They really touch on deep human emotions, and though the stories may be bigger than life, about people with fantastic abilities, the stories themselves are still relatable to us "mere mortals" in very resonant ways. I hope that the MCU continues to keep that "heart" at the heart of their vision going forward; I see no reason to doubt that they will. Looking forward to what comes next!

I saw the movie a couple days ago with my son and I liked it but the first one I thought was much better and I honestly felt they missed out on a golden opportunity with these. Now I get why they didn't we cast does want to be hard for them to recast because Chad boseman did just that good of a job and I like to touch that since it's like dmcu giving him and all of us a funeral that he would deserve. But things storyline wise they missed out like I said golden opportunity, because they're going to bring in X-Men, we don't know when but they are coming. But missing out on was one of the characters from X-Men meanwhile we just got Namor which is cool I actually enjoyed watching him but there's still one more mutant Dakota have added in some way in this, and her name was Storm from X-Men because and quite a bit of comics and also Indiana maze series in the 1990s storm was actually not only from conda but she was also the love interest of Black Panther and with what looks like that T'challa had a son literally with the exact name that they could have at least thrown in at least a young version of Storm.

You mentioned Atlantis when they showed the Atlantic Ocean, well funny you mentioned that, in the comic books originally Namor was the king of Atlantis, just like Aquaman was the king of Atlantis for DC Comics. Aquaman 1st appeared in DC in 1941 as Namor (The Submariner) appeared in Marvel in 1939. Namor fought alongside Captain America against the Nazis in the group "The Invaders" during WWII. They changed the Atlanteans to the Mayan Talokan because the writers thought it would make for a better story because of all the Mayan culture and Mayan history is easier to base it upon a race of actual people and not a Mythical race. (although I believe that Marvel did not want to compete against DC's version of Atlantis from the Blockbuster movie that Aquaman was).

Movie Trailers. If I see a trailer for a movie I had not heard about at all yet, it may or may not pique my interest; might want to find out more. Maybe there's a film I've heard the title of, maybe a few details or some cast members, but am on the fence about seeing, a trailer may give me the tease I need to decide whether I'm interested or not. But if there's a film that I already know that I want to see: anything MCU, anything Star Wars, Star Trek, anything Indiana Jones, etc.. whatever properties I know that I like- or films I've already heard enough about to be interested in something new: I avoid trailers at all cost! In they come on the TV, or in a RU-vid commercial, I'll mute it and glance away until it's safe. If I'm in a theatre, I'll look into my popcorn and hum and cover my ears. Literally. May seem weird to those around me, but I've never cared about that, anyway. I do not want anything to be spoiled; I do not want to hear anyone talking about it until I've seen it. So like any advertising, it can be useful for those on the fence, or for those who don't know about your thing. But if I'm already sold, keep those trailers away from me! I want to experience the story and visuals and everything for the first time, brand new, no spoilers, no expectations, just seeing it for the first time. -My 2¢

The whole cast has said that this movie helped all of them grieve for Chadwick. It is also kind of insane to learn that he was suffering from the cancer that eventually took his life... throughout most if not all of his time in the MCU. One of the stories I'd heard was about how they noticed that he would take longer than expected in the warming tents during filming some of the scenes. And yet, he kept it a secret and pushed through to the end. He was an amazing man, and the world is a little less brilliant for his loss.

Oh my God, Letitia Wright went through so many ranges of emotions so freaking effortlessly Grief, Anger, Apathy, Empathy and finally Peace! T'Challa character mean so much to so many people I was so happy they gave him a legacy to live on in.

Namor is supposed to be an antihero. The fact that you alternated between siding with or against him shows they adapted him well.

There was a deleted scene where Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda did get to meet little T'Challa. Of course, for obvious reasons, the scene was deleted so that the reveal in theaters would be as it was to the fans. Although the filmmakers and Angela believed that the Queen meeting her grandson was a beautiful and heartwarming scene, everyone agreed that it was best to take it out and show him at the end credits scene.

You’re one of the only people I’ve heard mention the emotions Letitia put into this role. The whole cast is top tier no lie but I need people to put some respect on her name! I felt all her grief, all her apathy, all her anger all her confusion at not seeing her mother at first in the ancestral plane. And then finally her spirit coming to rest & heal at the end. And then the interviews she has given talking about how she processed her grief over being so close to Chadwick & having to process her grief when she learned of his death but then again on set when those emotions at him not being there with her in those scenes hit once more. I’m just glad someone else is talking about what a wonderful actress Letitia is bc she did what she had to do in this film.

I love this movie...it's like a geopolitical thriller movie than anything...I also understood Namor's POV...As a deity of his people, he was under a lot of pressure to "keep everyone safe". He could have tried to be more diplomatic but that lady he was always consulting with was just too radical. She wanted nothing short of amagedon for the whole world while Namor kept hoping that he could find some sort of middle ground. Props to Shuri for also being a great leader. And the Queen Mother was just going through the most as well.

It’s a geopolitical thriller, yes, but it’s also a strong meditation on the nature of loss, grief, and how it affects different people.

Namor is an interesting character because when his goals align with yours he seems like a hero. When they are against you, then he seems the villain. The truth is he is a world leader. The only thing that matters is the wellbeing of his people.

Although I loved the first, I preferred this one (Wakanda Forever) because of the way that Coogler dealt with the issues of grief and loss. I don't think I have ever seen them so well portrayed in film before. And the acting was phenomenal. The introduction to Talokan, too, was amazing: such gorgeous cinematography. There was a lot in this movie, and the way it made people feel... I salute everyone who took part in bringing this to the screen.

I still have can't believe the score didn't get nominated for an Oscar. Like, there were three nominations for this movie I just knew they were going to get, Angela Bassett for Best Supporting Actress, Best Costume Designs, and Best Original Score. Ludwig won an Oscar for the first movie score, which was already amazing, and I personally that he even outdid himself with the score for Wakanda Forever, so it not even getting a nomination for it just seems crazy to me. I been listening to the whole thing over an over ever since I saw it opening weekend...

1. Congratulations on 200k!! You goddamn deserve it. 2. This movie, albeit not as magical as the first movie, is damn incredible. Given every single obstacle in its way, this managed to overcome them. 3. I don't care what anyone says, I wholeheartedly support Shuri as the new Black Panther. Fk what everyone talks about. 4. Namor was a brilliant antagonist for this movie. He is a phenomenal character, and I can't wait to see more of him in the future. In regards to Val and Ross, that whole subplot was meh. Clearly, it's setup for the upcoming Thunderbolts movie and the Secret Invasion TV show. Also, Riri Williams aka Ironheart (who was introduced in this movie) is getting a Disney Plus series coming out possibly this year. 5. Angela Bassett, who was/is nominated for an Oscar for her performance, gave a top-tier performance in this movie. Words cannot express how proud I am of her acting. 6. T'Challa's son is not only going to be Black Panther and King of Wakanda in the future, but his "alter ego" Toussaint is also going to be a major player down the line. 7. #RIPChadwickBoseman 8. #ForTChalla
