I thought that was a big mistake too at first, but it makes sense if the camera is following the guy. Spikes then enter frame and get closer till impact. But that's not the most intuitive sequence of events to convey to the next artist.

My graduating Class was 4. To be fair I live in New Zealand so our schools dont get big and my school was a Combined 5 year old to 18 year old school Known as an area school because why build a whole new high school when there are less than 100 kids in that range at the school.
