I'm the Mark who asked the question in 2016. I just today saw this reply. Thank you for the terrific information! Believe it or not the vehicle is still not running. I had performed the test you recommended in the video and arrived at the point where a fuel distributor assembly (distributor, EHA, air flow sensor unit, fuel pressure regulator) swap seemed in order. Acquired one out of an 88,000-mile 300E from someone I trust and will be installing it within the next week. I also just finished the Probst book on Bosch engine management and fuel injection. I understood only about half of what I read so I plan to reread after giving it a rest for a few days. Thank you for being willing to share your experience and love of MB classics with us!
Is the membrane in the fuel distributor able to last that long, or would it not dry out and crack by the first fuel-pressure coming to it. Is it better to get the fuel flowing through the system and wait a day before trying to start it again, to somewhat trying to moisture the membrane before putting it to work? I have a complete spare M103, that i would try to start at some point - but that have been standing at least 10 years now (but dry and safe though).

Great info. I know of a 1990 300SE with only 120K original miles on it just a few miles from home. I've been scared of it, because it has sat for many years. I hate to see it sitting there. Interior is like brand-new. Just afraid of how much money it would take to get it running again. Belonged to the lady's husband who passed away, and she's just kept it all these years and not driven it. Sad situation.
Good day I'm in South Africa I have a 1992 W124 300E. When the car drives around town it stalls and the engine dies when slowing down at the robots from about 40kph to 20kph. However when I drive the car out on the open road long distance it doesn't die when I slow down at to pull into a petrol station or a toll gate. I have taken this vehicle from one workshop to the next all Mercedes specialist workshops and none have solved this. Any ideas from your end what this could be. They have done fuel mixture many times still the problem persists even the fuel pump relay has been changed a few times. I'm so frustrated now.
You honor me. Thanks! Hard and occasional misses that have you backing off the pedal. Gets much better when she warms up. Quite sure it's a vacuum issue. I ordered a new modulator. I need to pour over it to find the potential leak. CA car with not a spot of rust. Sat for 17 years in a barn. New battery, and it fired right up. Clogged the fuel filter and I swapped them out. Cheers, my friend!@@mercedesclassicswithpierre1753
