Airbus H125 (Polizei), Alouette III, Agusta-Bell AB-212
Danke an alle Beteiligten!

26.Oct 2021 a huge forrest fire (for our scale) was started. It seems thru an abandoned campfire - but also because the forrest was very dry due to long periods of no rain.
Now it's over a week and each day 500 or more firefighters and many helicopters and planes try to extinguish the fire! It's especially difficult due to the rough terrain (very steep!).
In the next days rain is forecasted - so it should end soon!
Despite the incredible damage to the woods (will take 20+ years to repair) it was a spectacular sight to see all those copters in the air and amazing to see so much people work together to achieve one goal!
Great to see neighbouring countries (Italia, Slovakia and Germany) stepping in to help us.
Forrest fires of that scale are seldom in Austria - that's why we don't have enough large helicopters or planes. Also it looks like the water-planes Italy sent are not optimal - large rivers or lakes to fill up the planes water tank are mostly too far away...
Thanks to all involved,
thank you for watching (and reading this description),
greets, Mario

This one hell of an airshow! So many types of aircraft. Amazing and sad at same time. Each litre of water weighs a kg, so these are huge pendulums the pilots are skillfully managing.

It's also amazing to speculate about the ammount of cerosine that had to be burnt to fight this fire! the Blackhawks burn 600L/hour smaller ones 350L... The weightlifting is impressive, and first I was only filming and watching the large copters. But once I realized the wild flying and fun the quick little police helis had - I was amazed by their piloting even more (you see them flying up with weight, behaving - then speed down without weight, free and some seconds of fun until refill)

@@Rcschim Agree, looked amazing. Wonder if they doing auto rotations, or another technique. Some skill involved in managing blade forces and rotor RPM with such wild maneuvers.

I realize that this is a video compilation of flights over hours and days, but that's still a lot of traffic. Helicopters flying max climb rate up to the drop zone is one thing, basically pull on the collective until rotor RPM starts to drop, but that drop back down from the drop zone to the refill gets me every time. Point the nose down and drop like a brick! :o Oh, and stay out of your own downwash when it comes time to stop at the bottom - thus the spiral approach to the refill tank. A bunch of capable craft and pilots showing us their stuff. J.P.

Yep, it were 3 days that I visited the site for around 1h to spectate the different helis. It's not so common sight out here on our rural area ;) Sounds like you're a heli pilot yourself? or at least know a lot about it. Somehow good to hear that the big copters also have their issues with "propwash" as our drones have (no matter how good our PID tunes are) :)
@wingsounds13
@wingsounds13 2 года назад
@@Rcschim I'm not a full-scale heli pilot but I do know quite a bit about them. Most full scale heli's can easily get caught in their own downwash and be unable to arrest their descent. It is largely an issue of limited power and is basically what caused several of the early V-22 crashes. It is not hard to get out of this condition if you are aware of what is happening. To break out of this you must translate laterally out of the downwash column - if you have enough altitude to do so before reaching the edge of the air.

Nice footage of the fire fighting ordeal, Maybe you could sell the footage to local news stations, and even the news stations in the countries that helped out too. and that's pretty cool that Italia, Slovakia, and Germany helped out. Greets, Conrad

Don't need to try to sell the footage. There were many spectators with quite good cam gear - so a ton of footage is for sure available. It was a good opportunity for me to use my better cams and lenses and also watch the very interesting copters and planes!

Interesting. In Canada they likely wouldn't fight it in that steep terrain. They'd plaster the ridge top with retardant and let it burn to the retardant guard. But they always put on an impressive show. The Canadair CL-215s are amazing aircraft. The only aircraft purpose built for fire fighting. All others are adapted airframes. Built in Canada. The Italians have 20+ in their fleet. Think the military flies them there. In Canada it's all contractors. Cool you got to see them load and dump. Before it was decommissioned, I watched the Martin Mars air tanker scoop and drop several times. A frickin' monster. And in terms of ground assistance for loading, it is completely unnecessary. Those firefighters shouldn't be standing around the stillwell as the chopper fills his bucket. In Canada most fly with 150-200 foot long lines and can hit a stillwell dead center. Amazing to watch.

Move to California :) last year there was a jumbo jet thingy dropping retardant flying lower than the hills we where standing on. Amazing pilots
@Rcschim
@Rcschim 2 года назад
That's for sure a different scale. Americans always have to make everything way bigger than europeans ;) The fires last year for sure weren't funny over there. I can only imagine how bad the air is when it's burning so much for so long....

In breaking news, Austrian fire-fighting helicopters were grounded today after reports that a man was seen who is known to own a drone. A police spokesperson would only refer to the man as Mario S. Mario S reportedly operates a very popular RU-vid channel in which he demonstrates his drone flying to a global audience. The Austrian aviation regulator told media _"we had to ground all helicopters due to the risk associated with a known drone-owner being in the area"_ . New calls have now been made for a total ban on evil drones in the wake of today's events. 😀 😀 😀

ridiculous skills to do this kind of work. some of those heli's were on the big side for this kind of work, but hey if the pilots willing, its job worth doing.
