I think USB power is a great feature. It can be powered directly from the computer and we already have lots of USB chargers at hand from phones, gadgets etc… also, in a single wall socket you can plug an USB adaptor with multiple outs and enough juice for everything while still spending just one socket… and always being smaller than traditional DC adapters 😊
The Waldorf Streichtfett is a great little unit for getting that string ensemble sound. I picked up one a few weeks ago and if you want that rich Styx ‘Come Sail Away…’ phasery sounding string sound it really adds some dimension to your music. Not super extensive but does what you want really well when you use the ensemble setting and use the phaser with just the depth sweep.
It's an amazing machine for darkwave/gothic music... I used it on a song I made in collaboration with Perpetual Midnight (The process), in the final section I played a sort of a distant horn with the Streichfett and instantly felt a sort of "early Dead Can Dance" vibe...It's been used on stage by Hante., L'Avenir, and on the electro side of things, by Dopplereffekt.
No shortage of string synths on the market? There are three.. and two of them are digital.. I suppose you could include the Akais as they have a Solina VST onboard.. but there's still only one analogue string synth on the market. So I would say there IS a shortage of string synths on the market today!
I sold mine for almost what I paid for it, I regret as it's almost double asking now. I had to get rid of it as I found I was falling into the same same sounds. User error...
That’s crazy! I’ve fought to keep mine because of the same dilemma but fortunately I didn’t sell it because it is in fact what I suspected and what you’ve come to find as well as I, DEFINITELY user error 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
I love mine. The sounds are very accessible. Hard to go wrong with it, unless you don't want strings, but if that's the case then why get a string synth?
Is this essentially what's in the Waldorf STVC, just minus the vocoder? I'm seeing and hearing a lot of similarity. I've heard rumor to the effect, but I'd like some confirmation from someone in the know.
The STVC is an expanded version that has a 5 slot modulation matrix, the vocoder and some other additions not in the streichfett such as additional solo sounds. I wouldn't buy the streichfett unless your short on funds and can pay for an STVC.
So what is a viable alternative to a USB power supply? A different wall wart for every different market and electrical standard? Lots more electronic waste that the planet can do without. With USB at least, you can be pretty sure that it's going to stick around for quite a while.
What’s wrong with USB power? I love having 5V devices with USB-B connectors. Would you actually prefer a proprietary power brick with a random-size DC jack? The thing I hate is Micro-B connectors. They’re flimsy and they’re easy to damage and/or get backwards. But USB power is awesome. I plug in guitar pedals and volcas and RMX-1000s with DC-to-USB converter cables and it reduces a lot of clutter being able to plug 4 things into one USB power brick. And why would you say there’s no shortage of string synthesizers? That’s a total lie LOL. There’s one other one announced by Behringer and nobody has one. I can’t trust anything this guy says. He’s just rambling. OMG he brought up the power cord AGAIN at the end!
It is a lovely instrument. Right after I got it out of the box, I built the Vox Humana patch (found the instructions in a video) and fell in love with it. I also had the Behringer VC340, but once I got the Juno-X, I got vocoder-heavy so I packed it up. The Juno is more stage-ready, but the best sounds come from the STVC... By far!
@@johnhawranick8097 I don't use the vocoder all that much, I use it for string machine sounds and pads. I have plenty of other better vocoders as well.
@Rhizosphere the string engine in the STVC is much more advanced than the Streichfett though. I have 2 Steichfetts and an STVC.. and numerous other vocoders if I want vocoding
Search for Solina / Eminent string ensemble, Hohner string melody or any other string machine from the 70s/early 80s. The Streichfett is a simulation of vintage string orchestra simulators.
Good feature thanks, this is One synth I keep wanting to “like”..For a start I’m a fan of many Waldorf products, & these tick a lot of boxes all in a compact, and pretty affordable package BUT, to my ears anyway I just think it just lacks something??& in fact you show it here, it’s doesn’t sound “bad” but without ensemble etc it sound pretty flat to me & doesn’t nail the vintage string machine sound at all. In my limited experience with the Roland boutique vc, I think, it maybe does sound better? - yes comparison would be good!)
The ensemble effect on the Streichfett isn‘t programmed well. It is far to strong. Clavia did it right on the Nord lead A1/Wave 2/Stage 4. But these lack the TOS-Generator. 🤯 Greetings from a stringmachine collector from Germany😀🇩🇪🤝
