For those of you unfamiliar with American history, there was once a beautiful city called San Francisco, a few hours north of Los Angeles, California. Note the wonderful architecture and steep streets and boulevards. In the downtown there were all manner of stores and shops, and by the bay, a neighborhood called "Fishermans Wharf". That's all gone today. Enjoy these historical snapshots of this once great city.
Playing villains was British Columbia born Raymond Burr's specialty in any genre especially Noir and Western. Even when he was on the right side of the law like in A Place in the sun he was not very nice either. He would have to wait for the famous TV shows Perry Mason and Ironside to be the good guy.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 10. This was an outstanding movie - I'm not even sure it's a movie, I think it may be a detective training film. The only modern investigative technique they didn't use was DNA - produced a bit too early for that!! It wins a 9/10 from me. 24 Feb 2024
At 0:10, the camera is at 101 N. Brand Blvd, Glendale, CA looking north. The mountains are still there in 2024, but the only building that still exists is 146 N. Brand Blvd. It's on the other side of the street, 2 buildings down from the "Thomas College" sign. It's the light-colored building with the three double windows on the second floor. The double windows are still there in 2024!
What a great movie! I've been watching a lot of B movies on RU-vid lately and I enjoyed this one more than most of what I've seen lately. Thanks for posting!
These older movies or black&white movies have better actors and a storyline that is more entertaining than anything DC comics has put out. Our brains can actually follow and enjoy these movies without the surround sound effects or flashy CGi effects, it's relaxing and allows us to calm our thoughts enough to appreciate the artistic value
I vote for making the old movies and TV section of RU-vid a no politics zone. Why keep trying to make all of life in America unpleasant? Let's have some fun- together.
Suspect that you would not be incorrect in thinking that perhaps the Tobacco companies since the 30's have had a say in the escalation of smoking in films.
"Hey Murray! Pass me the popcorn. Pass me my pipe and bud. Pass me my slippers. And pass me a volume of Kierkegaard." "Yes sir. Here is the popcorn pipe bud and slippers. But as for the Kierkegaard I just Kant."
In the mid-60s I had a grand tour of that office in SF. The armory is a vault room that amounted to a 10-15 foot square box. Walking into that vault the first thing one sees, is nearly floor-to-ceiling Thompson machine gun's pistols on one wall. Rifles of all types on the other
It's still the same. They keep arresting the good guys and letting the criminals free. Start with DOJ Merrick Garland and FBI Chris Ray. The whole Obama/Rice/ Biden Administration is criminal and corrupt.
Some of them would be easier to spot since they're wearing Melania's underwear. If the old reprobate was still in charge he would have added them to his collection for sure. What a shameful rabble that collective has become.
At 49:06, 'Mr. Benish' is played by veteran actor Frank Ferguson, who made hundreds of appearances in TV and films. Among others, he appeared in episodes of 'Gunsmoke'; 'Perry Mason'; 'Bonanza'; 'Cheyenne'; 'The Rifleman'; etc. A much thinner Raymond Burr (who starred as 'Perry Mason') plays 'Krebs'.
I was a kid in junior Highschool at this time. Comic Consciouness was drillen into our heads to the Point of Even ratting on our neighbors. These were the times of McCarthyism and the House Unamerican Activities. The idea of outerspace spying was portrayed a Little bit in a movie From the Earth to the Moon(?).
@@xmillion1704 Homophobe implies that he's afraid of them. Maybe he's not afraid of them, but he just can't understand them and is a bit freaked out by them.

Love your video! you are kind and sweet! My daughter is a taurus and she would give her last dime to help someone she believes in. Keep going and shining! Love and blessings.
And then later would come party lines. People would have phones in their house but in some cities they would have party lines period where your line was connected to other people's phone lines
Comrade Bron's speech around 29.00 isn't a clarion call to join the CP. If stupidity and clumsiness are met with such extreme treatment as meted out to Radchek, maybe the CP should reexamine their recruitment goals.
Or, alternatively, you could grow up and learn that you are not in charge of public conversation in the free world. If you don't like a comments section being a comments section then why don't you confine yourself to closed channels that bar comments? Plenty of people like you who can't tolerate the opinions of others congregate there...
For atmosphere and mood. It's a graphic lighting style famous for these movies as much as "Technicolor" bright colorful sets, costumes an lighting was for musicals and light comedy. The shadowy lighting in films like this is why they bear the signature called film noir. It's meant to convey a sense of foreboding, menace/danger and dark emotions.
@@Seawizz203 Of course the main reason these films and other dramas of the era were shot in black and white is that it was much cheaper and easier to deal with in production than color. Things were also kept dark and starkly lit, shadowy with maybe even fog or cigarette-smoke -filled atmospheres to add mystery and character to equally stark sets and/or real available locations like warehouses, alleyways, old stairways, waterfront piers etc . Films have to be of that time , acting style, storyline, settings, lighting style AND in black and white in my book to be pure film noir. If any of the above are missing , including being of the time, with shadowy lighting and in black and white I don't get the true, full film noir experience. It's personal, ya see., bub? What kinda fella would put up with a crummy deal like dis here color thing in film noir? Why ya'd have ta be plum outta yer ever lovin' mind. ;-7

@@bradsillasen1972 Well… …we can begin with this man from Scotland Yard showing up in California. And him having anything to do with an espionage case in another nation. Scotland Yard is the London Metropolitan police. Ludicrous.
Pro tip: The film script is flawed - driving from Los Angeles area (where the fictional Lakeview is located) to San Francisco would not involve a crossing on the Golden Gate Bridge. Possibly the Bay Bridge, but not the GG as shown in the film. The GGB is north of the City.
@@gopcongress Yes, the narrator actually referenced "..the big bay bridge" as the scene shows the bus turning northbound (so away from the City) on to what is actually the GGB. Continuing, in the next several frames, you can see from the POV that the bus is at first travelling north on the GGB, with Alcatraz, Treasure Island and Pier 49 in view, abeam right. Then the bus's reciprocal POV reveals they are travelling back south on the GGB. Then they drive by the Bay Bridge and, finally, the erroneous bridge sequence finishes with the bus rolling down on the City side of the exit ramps off the Bay Bridge - so they did a lot of driving on that bus all over the place - I guess as an excuse to capture some San Fran scenery. One would probably have to have lived or done business there, as I did, to catch this trivia - and it really isn't material to the plot. Ninety nine percent of the viewers wouldn't notice a thing. As to the liklihood of someone coming up from SoCal eventually using the Bay Bridge to enter San Fran, that was probably unlikely back then but actually likely in more contemporary times, assuming one would have elected the I-5 all the way up. I have done that several times driving from LA to San Fran if I wasn't stopping in San Jose or Palo Alto for any reason.... either that or the Dumbarton (sp?)....if I needed to stop at SFO.
@@Franklin-pc3xdWell observed. But this film was twaddle even back when it was made. The FBI has always unrightfully polished its image for public consumption. It was singularly bad at catching USSR agents back in the 40s/50s.
FBI Famous But Incompetent. All they had to do is to stage a robbery where he eats and have the police hold him as a witness. Give them plenty of time.
Questi film sono il mio passatempo preferito. Ma per favore traduzione in italiano non siamo su venere. Siamo in Italia..... grazie. Giuliano da Genova 👍
This movie shows how little people knew about our Constitution and how good law enforcement works. The "heroes" violated so many Constitutional principles and broke so many laws the case would have been thrown out if it ever even got to court. But it did make for a fun fantasy.
Why not just make these movies no comment zones. Because the Trump haters will find a way to say something about him? Just vote IF YOUR old enough and then get a life. Man This Trump guy has people in the states Crazy?
