Walk around Strömfors Iron Works, Ruotsinpyhtää/Loviisa, July 2022, Finland.
Along the westernmost fork of the Kymijoki River is located old ironworks called Strömforsin Ruukki (Strömfors Ironworks). Strömfors Ironworks is one of Finland’s oldest ironworks, dating back to 1695. Baron Johan Creutz founded the first shop in the area due to its plentiful forests and abundant hydroelectric power. Since then, it has attracted all kinds of businesses, such as a brewery, a brick factory, and a sawmill. With its red-stained buildings and open-air museum, the area has remained almost unchanged to this day.
Ruotsinpyhtää (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈruo̯tsimˌpyhtæː]; Swedish: Strömfors) is a former municipality of Finland, now part of Loviisa. The area of Ruotsinpyhtää was originally part of Pyhtää. After the Treaty of Åbo in 1743 the border between Sweden and Russian Empire was drawn on the Ahvenkoski rapid, dividing Pyhtää between the two states. Due to this the western side became known as Ruotsinpyhtää (Swedish Pyhtää).
