anyone who has carried a lot of gear, like one does in the military, appreciates a single large compartment instead of a bunch of internal pockets. you can easily use stuff sacks to keep your gear organized, but often times the dividers cause more harm than good, by limiting your options. a single, large, secure, open compartment is the way to go, with a cinch strap at the top to close it down and keep it flopping around when your pack is less full. in fact, that's the way i prefer to go. you need to have some empty space to put something in that you pick up in your travels. i have a leather belt pouch that is empty most of the time just for that reason. it's handy to stick something in if i need storage on the go.
Is this a promo for the bag? Great job! I can tell by the construction of the bag it is an excellent bag, using a sewing machine with a large needle and heavyweight thread and those anodized rivets or real brass or copper rivets could make a difference. How about metal corners and padding on the pads, adding to more expense, the possibilities. Thanx for putting out there.
Really nice, but I don't quite understand the pockets behind the pockets. Doesn't add much volume to the backpack, and will fill up with snow/rain and dust. Another concern is whether the quality is matched in the buckles, or if they're coated with something shiny that'll wear off.
I think people who produce high-quality, incredibly robust items needn't apologise for the price of these items. No one would view them as exorbitant, especially for what they are getting. Nor should anyone be belittled for being unable to afford these items. It's just the way of the world.
I got this and was horrified at the new straps - TO NOT BUY THIS BACKPACK UNTIL THEY FIX. I had to hold their feet tot he fire and force them to take it back and put on the straps with the rolled lower sides and the padded upper. They do now fix the top of the strap without a buckle which I do agree with. I want to buy the smaller pack but will not until they fix this. E-mail Dave and tell him !
Both! You can carry more in the Simple and bulkier, wider items. It's personal preference and what will suit your needs best. What do you really carry? If you can answer that, and then, look at the dimensions. You'll find your answer. I still say both, can't hurt to have both. I like options. -William
