WALK IN FREEZER NOT TURNING ON

This was a service call on a walk in freezer not getting cold enough, I found that the low pressure control was not set low enough fro the system to turn back on due to the fact that the unit had a pressure limiting tev that wouldn't drive the pressure past 32 psig. I made a temporary adjustment and we submitted a quote to replace the pressure limiting powerhead with a normal one.

Now , what makes me scratch my head is: let's say you did need that pressure limiting power head , how could you find a compromise to keep it and yet set the low pressure control so that the compressor doesn't short cycle with the bypass ? That would really do me head in ... great to see how thorough you were and that you made sure you came back after the late night call 👍

Question. Wouldnt the pressure rise with the evap fans running? I've worked on display cases that use the pressure switch as a temp control. Cuts the compressor off at a set low pressure then as the box temp increases the pressure increases and cuts the compressor back in.
@HVACRVIDEOS
@HVACRVIDEOS 5 лет назад
the pressure control is not the temperature controller in this situation, there is a thermostat and solenoid valve down at the coil. The problem here was when the thermostat would call and the solenoid valve would open the pressures would not rise about 30 psig to close the low pressure control and this was because of the pressure limiting power head on the tev so I adjusted the pressure control lower until I could replace the powerhead.

It pisses me off that a so called professional leaves wires hanging out of a box and and ran those two wires through non protected holes when a hole and grommet was right there. The guy who did that should be ashamed. Thats just lazy. Do you want someone coming behind you and seeing that? Or do such a good job that you would inspire the tech after you to do a good job also? Just my opinion....
@jonka1
@jonka1 4 года назад
It's interesting that it takes more effort and time to drill ragged holes than use that nearby gromet. I can only guess at the mental processes that lead to this behaviour. Having said that I remember a builder doing some work for me many years ago and whatever I asked him to do he would always do it differently from my requested way. In the end I found it best to say nothing and he then did it the logical and best way (as I would have wanted). Crazy.

Good vid. i Guess the Moral of the story is don't set Your R-404 Freezer Low pressure controls above 25psig. Its amazing what we see , Those raw wires running through metal drilled holes. thats the kind of stuff owners do. Just crazy ! can anyone say direct short to ground in a few years. You've Got Mega Balls Turning on that rack with All that water still in that rack. With My Luck , it Would blow the Main Breaker out of the panel and The Entire Building Main too. One of my pet peeves is i Have to Rinse ALL Water out of Rack , Open All Boxes and Blow out with Co2 BEFORE Powering back up. I'm NEVER That Lucky that Everything starts up With That Amount of Water Present. My Luck with Water & Electricity is AWEFUL !

Absolutely hate those MOP valves. In my opinion they only used when the system isnt sized correctly, or when the system is being used outside its design intent. Would have been better if it was variable speed driven with extra capacity in the condenser for those "hot pull down" times. Liked the video, and i totally agree with cleaning the area around the condenser, my boss always thought i was playing with water he never saw the logic behind it.

MOP valves are absolute crap. I design this stuff, its much better to use a CPR valve OR a simple pressure switch inline with the llsv to turn it off at 50-60 psig.
@akhermit5213
@akhermit5213 5 лет назад
Most pressure controls I set at 15 cut in, 0 cut out on pump down systems. The scrolls will sometimes jump up a few PSI. Occasionally I will do cut in as high as 20 if the particular unit has short cycling. One short cycle is okay after a pump down, but any more than that, I adjust a little. In the winter here, pressure controls set too high show themselves pretty quick. Headmasters and heated receiver tanks are pretty common here. Fan cycling on the older systems mostly, and sometimes on new ones.

I'm in Australia and every freezer we work on or install will have a cpr valve or mop txv. Thats due to the 4 to 6 defrosts a day that will cause suction pressure to be higher than what the compressor is rated for. Mop valves are typically sat at 50psi and i set my cprs at 40psi s a general rule of thumb.

I just got into commercial after 7 years in residential, and I love it. Have you ever messed something up doing coil cleanings with all that electrical underneath?

I don't like pressure limiting or balanced port valves

Quick question for anybody’s: On a Lennox Energence unit(2 stage 4 compressors), the coils were extremely dirty and it went off on high pressure. Why would 2 and 3 go off (contactor not pulled in) but 1 and 4 stay on (contactor pulled in)? That would be half of each stage running so it leads me to believe that each side of the coil being dirty had something to do with it(front side and back side). I’m just a facilities manager and trying to learn more about these units. Let me know your thoughts from anybody.

@HVACRVIDEOS 5 лет назад
On the Lennox Energence units the condenser is divided into 4 sections so it is possible for only two to trip on high pressure. This could be caused by bad fan motors and or dirty condensers

HVACR VIDEOS makes a lot of sense. I appreciate the quick response. After we cleaned coils and got the rest of the unit running, we were putting out 50 degree discharge air temp which is pretty good for where we are at.

If dust and dirt gets pulled in a condenser would you recommend a filter?
@OcRefrig
@OcRefrig 5 лет назад
No , Paper Filters would Get Wet From the Rain. Metal filters could be used , But Would have to be inspected & or Washed EVERY MONTH RELIGIOUSLY ! and could NEVER BE let get any dirtier than 50% or They WOULD DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD. if You are Willing to commit to Removing & Monthly Washing of Air Filters then Go for it.

It's a silicone ring so it will not conduct electricity and or it will break away if it gets caught on something.

I see. I actually meant I was surprised you kept it on & got it that dirty. I thought it was gunmetal pewter or something like that. I’m from a family where wedding rings come off before bed or anything dirty or wet, for safekeeping.
