I figured out the special sauce of your breakdowns: You don't mock people. You're on EVERYONE'S side. The fans, the players. No matter how goofy or wacky something is, you're just in on the fun with everyone. That's what makes a person likeable and it's what makes this series so great.

I hear ya. Try being a cubs fan. 😆
@youtubecensors5419
@youtubecensors5419 Год назад
I hear that often, but look at it this way. Nearly every Cubs fan alive today lives in a world where they watched their team win the WS. Sure it was a long draught, but no one alive experienced it firsthand, so Cubs fans can't really annex that long absence into their own experience. And this isn't even a WS victory, it's merely getting into the playoffs. The Mariners are the only baseball team in existence (45 years) that have also NEVER even been to the WS. So really, I'd have to say that the fan base of that franchise has the most to cry about according to their own lives as baseball fans in this earth.

I cried like a baby, and I started looking around and seeing my family not crying because they don't have the same connection to the M's yet, but smiling for me. But then I look around to the other seats and I see other grown dudes and ladies with tears streaming down their cheeks and it was awesome. Got it all on video, never deleting it. One thing I was hoping you were going to talk about is Tony Kemp. He sat down in shallow right field and just watched the celebration for probably close to ten minutes. We kept checking back on him to make sure he was still there, and he was! I saw that he's done similar stuff before in other games, and that's really cool. Makes me like him more as a player. Everything about this is so good. Cal Raleigh, one of the best-hitting catchers and a real bright spot of the second half of the season for the M's, slapping a homer on a slider, his pimped as hell bat flip, it dawning on him as he rounds second how incredible it is. The crowd cheering. And I didn't even notice, but it's super cool to see Luis Castillo get so excited for the Mariners considering he's only been here for half a season. Him and Carlos Santana have really embraced this team and it's so good to see. The WHOLE TEAM, staff included, getting in on the victory jig was just such a delight to see, too. I'm telling you...when Cal hit that ball, the place EXPLODED like I've never experienced before at any sporting event---people screaming and jumping around, throwing beer up into the sky, lots of drunk-hugging between strangers, and lots of tears by grown men like myself after a very long 21 year drought. For me, the only thing that would've made it better would have been having my own dad there to experience it with us, but he passed away 9 years ago. My dad LOVED the Mariners. And last Friday was one of the moments where I've felt closest to him since his passing. For fathers and sons...baseball is something truly beautiful. Being a M's fan for 25 years taught me to appreciate a good game of baseball. I'd go to the game not just hoping to tally a win, but rather any game which was reasonably close would be a W for me even if we lost. I believe it taught me to appreciate the game and the performance of the players in that game without necessarily building up an expectation for the outcome, especially with so many seasons where the outcome really didn't matter that much coming down the final stretch. Over the next few weeks now, I have to hope that Julio coming back will once again make this team forget they're the Mariners, because one of the things the M's do is choke. (look at their post season history that's all im gonna say) I believe we could go all the way but I don't expect it, if I'm honest. Whatever - prove me wrong boys - I just wanna see some epic games.

I got off work at 8:30 and biked down to the stadium. I couldn't find a ticket (or another way) to get in, but I watched what I could through the windows to the team store inside of The 'Pen. I couldn't see the field, but I could see the crowd in front of me and the upper deck on the otherside of the field. There was also a TV that I could see-but it was on a several-second delay. This is all to say that I knew the situation: two outs, nobody on, full count to Cal Raliegh; and the eruption of the crowd told me the rest. Thanks for recapping this moment, Jomboy. There are many fans who have never even seen their team play in the postseason, and this team has taken ownership of their ability to change that. I've seen some of the most humble, and aware commentary I've ever seen from a collective of players and coaches in regards to the importance of ending the drought this past season. This team is playing for thier community as much as they are for eachother, or themselves. It should be pretty fun to watch them take the field on friday.

Hey, Jomboy. Thanks for celebrating that with us, and thanks for the peek inside Cal's head. The only thing you might have mentioned is that he is nursing a jammed thumb on his left (glove) hand, which is why he was available as a pinch-hitter. I've been keeping an eye on Caleb Raleigh since Jerry Dipoto drafted him in the third round of the 2018 draft. A switch-hitting catcher who hit for power and average at Fla. State. As if being a catcher didn't put enough on youur plate, he added batting from both sides to skills he had to build. Like Mike Zunino, whom we all loved up here, he raked all the way to AAA. Unlike Z, he didn''t get called up sooner than he was ready at the plate. But Zunino's receiving skills had been praised from the start; Cal's were not so highly rated when he was drafted. Like Zunino, he scuffled at the plate when he came up last year, and agin at the beginning of this season. His average was like .069 when he got sent down this year, but he was called up sooner than expected because we lost a veteran catcher for the season. His average a long way to go to get over .200, but as he raised it, I noticed he was doing so largely in clutch situations (unlike Zunino). He didn't have quite as much raw power as Mike, but he wasnt striking out if he didn't go yard. He was putting the ball in play a lot more. Meanwhile, he developed into a catcher that the whole pitching staff was praising. They like his calls and his ability to block and frame pitches. Even though he is practically a rookie, he has the maturity to visit a vetern on the mound and help him get back in the groove. And he is the only member of the catchers' 20-20 club this year with 20 or more each of home runs and runners gunned down. He was relatively late to sign when he was drafted. As the 90th overall pick his slot was rated for a signing bonus of $632,700. He actually signed for $854,000. That one swing on Friday night was worth the extra $220,000.
