Such a good idea! I didn't spot all of the movies, but probably about 3/4 of them. Loved the variety, from new movies to the old classics. This is really awesome, you made a classic right here!
I don't know how many times I've watched this over the years but it still amazes me how good it is. IMO the best movie/dance scene compilation out there.
idk what it is about this video that makes my heart warm. my grandma found it one day and we watched it and pointed out all our favourite movies we saw, and we had just a great time. whenever i hear this song now, i think about watching this with her and doing a little boogie in our seats and going "look what movie it is!" there's such a diverse amalgamation within this short compilation of people just dancing and having a good time. the human population can be so easily brought together by movement, no matter if you're good or bad at it. dancing is such an expression of self and this video somehow captures that perfectly. i've had this stuffed in my favourites playlist for such a long time and i'm so glad i've kept a tight grip.
This is one of the most beautifully crafted music videos I've seen on this site. Every scene matched the beat, rhythm, tone, and mood of the song. This is what makes a great music video.
This song, and specifically this movie compilation just makes me happy. I was at my local hangout bar one night and played this song on Touchtunes and got the entire bar up and dancing to it. There were maybe only a dozen people, but complete strangers dancing around together, hooking arms and being silly....so fun (and perhaps a little too much alcohol for most involved). :)
As someone who has spent countless hours inside dark editing bays looking for the perfect beats, let me just say that this is one of the best-edited videos set to music I have ever seen. It is just incredibly on-point. Very nice work!
I literally show this to everyone I know, if someone is down, this is an automatic uplifter! So insanely well edited, perfect scenes used and It is just perfection.
this video makes me so happy. I'm not even sure why. I think if someone asked me to show them American movies and culture in five minutes or less I might show them this.
Showed this to my students yesterday when they needed to burn some energy -- first we just watched it, and the second time through we danced along. Wonderful!
MsTabularasa- I've been a video editor for 24 years. I'm highly critical of compilation videos on YT (because they're so ubiquitous and most people just don't have a real knack for putting footage together.) This is absolutely one of the best I've yet seen. Not just because you sync all the flourishes really well, but because you actually cut the shots together to flow very well. It practically feels like the footage was shot with the *intention* of being cut together this way. That says a lot for your skills. Congratulations on a video very well done. I just finally watched the band's official video and I like yours way better. Kudos! Keep up the good work.
Oh, also, two final likes in particular: 1) That shot of Brad Pitt from Burn After Reading - I loved that movie, and the Coens are among my favorite filmmakers ever, but if you paid me a million dollars, I wouldn't have been able to recall that shot, and you used it perfectly. Awesome memory you have, and great resourcefulness. 2) Ending on a shot of Faith the Vampire Slayer. Even if it was from Bring It On. ;-)
Robert Porter I think this is the best comment I've gotten so far,. I feel like I'm a total amateur so having a professional editor like what I've done is such a compliment! Thank you!! Your response really stuck with me.
I have seen many music videos and dance scenes in movies over the years. It is even close. This is far and away the most brilliant, perfectly-spliced and edited, detailed and thoughtful video ever done, bar none. Whenever we need a pick me up on my family, we just turn this on and joy ensues. Well done and thank you.
My wife and I have been watching this video all weekend. What I love: 1) It makes me feel young...-er. 2) The wide range of movies, not just in the type of movie (Comedy, Romance, Drama, etc.), but also the wide range of "quality," for lack of a better word. Some movies were critically acclaimed, some not as much, and some not at all. I love the "Kick-Ass" clip for this reason; they're just rocking in the car, nothing fancy, but it fits beautifully. 3) #3, the scene from "Something Borrowed." Out of all the movie clips in this video, for some reason this one sticks out for me. I've never seen the movie, which brings me to.... 4) ...how the video makes me want to see every movie that was included. 5) The dancing from all the clips is in step with the beat of the music. If you watch closely, you can tell the creator had the attention to detail to match the clips to the music. I would guess it's a combination of (a) choosing dance scenes with a tempo close to that of the song, (b) short clips mean the movie scene ends before the dancing becomes out of step with the music, and (c) adjusting the film speed to match the music. 6) The song itself. When my wife and I are not watching the video, we're listening to the tune. 7) Chris Tucker's moves. 8) How the slower dancing fits in with the music, from "Dirty Dancing" (2:27) to "Beauty and the Beast" (2:38). The energy is reduced for a few bars, setting the song up for the finale. A couple of comments along the lines of "if I had done it:" 1) If I could change once movie clip, it would be replacing the scene from "Shall We Dance" (2:04) with a scene from the original Japanese movie of the same name. It was a great movie (see it!), and including it would've added to the international touch of the video. 2) Scenes that could've been included: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis in "True Lies," the slave girl from "Return of the Jedi," "Chicago," any classic movie such as "Guys and Dolls," Peter Boyle and Gene Wilder in "Young Frankenstein," Charlie Chaplan with the rolls and two forks, etc..... 2b).....and everyone will have a scene that deserved inclusion. In the end, I would not replace a single scene (except for #1 above), as part of the joy of this cut is seeing clips I would never have seen otherwise.
You guys seriously need to try watching this video on 0.75 speed, not only does it make it easier to appreciate the masterpiece that is this videos editing, but it makes the song so much calmer and yet somehow even more inspiring.
Only an Editor can truly appreciate the talent involved in creating this Excellent work , especially considering this was many years ago , not the software of today..Bravo
this always makes me smile! When it was unavailable, I was actually depressed. This is by far the best "mash up" ever. The one with "up town funk," is crapola compared to this masterpiece. I wish the creator of this gets an award
MsTabularasa Thank you, you did a fantastic job on this! I can't believe how many awesome dance clips you found that I never did. How did you find all of these clips?
No matter who many times I've watched this ~ I enjoy it each and every time ! Lot of work went into this and I thank you for bringing a smile to my face.
If it hasn't been said already: activating the closed captions will list the movies on screen for each scene shown. Also, this is totally enjoyable. It made my day.
LOVE this! I needed a pick me up today, and this fit the bill. It took me from feeling "eh" to dancing like a fool in my living room. THANK YOU so much for sharing. Peace.
I live in Malibu and to know Brad Pitt and AnG now currently. To see him in his prime is great!! A fun party favor I will always bring up... Remember "Lets Dance" He will laugh. Thanks who ever you are that did this so well done!!
Watching this for the first time was sensory overload! :) There is no way you can see it only once! Watch it three times and another three later on. Amazing sync Ms Tabula. You done this good.
oh-you so need to win an Oscar, and Emmy, a Tony, a Golden Globe, a peoples choice, a SAG, and another award out there......phenominal, fun, entertaining, perfection, seamless and just plain nice. Thank you
It's just marvelously incredible how the song matches perfectly with each film excerpt used to compose the whole video. I'm so amazed and thrilled for the perfect combination! Congratulations!!! This edited video helps a lot in sending away some of my gloominess.
Love it! The only things I missed were the Third Class Party from Titanic and the Enchantment Under The Sea Dance from Back to the Future. Nicely done!
Back again to watch *THE* *BEST* movie comp. video in the world !! During this lock down it really brightens my day. Thankfully I bookmarked this page years ago. You better bookmark it too, you're going to want to come back, I promise. Thanks again Ms. T.
Awesome editing, and clearly someone who knows dance routines from obscure modern films....the 60s was the earliest I saw. I would have loved to see a few seconds of the Nicolas Brothers in their classic routine.....one of the best EVER on films from the film Stormy Weather...
This is quite genius! My husband and I have watched it many times. I especially love that you used a wide variety of movies from different time periods.
I've always tried to make movie compilations but I never quite get them right. The hard work to get one as brilliant as this is incredible, so well done!
This reminded of a video of kim carnes' INVITATION TO DANCE during the 80's. Compilation of dances from different eras. Great video sounds so 80's as well!
This video made me so smiley! I just love how it all came together, and even though I'm not a movie buff, I recognized a great many of the movies and the characters from them. Just so very happy, the dancing and the excellent composition of the music and clips 😊!
This is my go-to pick-me-up! I love every second!! Thank you for the time you spent creating it. It's an editing masterpiece that will (and should) live on for generations!
It truly is masterful how well you edited this together. I wish I could piece a puzzle together like this, truly. Only now as I go back and watch this video critically, I realize how you flowed each clip into one another. If one scene has has heavy hip action, the next one also has heavy hip action. If one has a lot of mid-arm movement, then next has a lot of mid-arm movement. If there's a big head twitch, so does the next one. Truly excellent job (other than syncing the audio, of course).
This hands down one of the best movie compilations I've seen! What I love the most is the collection of movies for this thing. Also the song is perfect.
+Philo Janus The video is fun and all but I don't think it's good enough for an official music video. From a creators perspective it's a little sloppy, if you focus on the video you can notice that between each clip there is a black screen, though it's not really noticeable to those who haven't experimented with this type of stuff. No offense to the creator though ^^
+Ssketch That's really what you focused on? What I noticed was that the resolution and aspect ratios varied from clip to clip, which the creator really can't help - you have to work with what you can get your hands on. The black frame between clips is an old editing trick I learned from physically splicing film - it can make for a cleaner transition than just butting two disparate scenes together. I hadn't thought about it before, but I don't know how that would translate to the digital world. In any event, even with the shortcomings, this video is still far, far better than the official one.
Great compilation. Next one should have Black Swan, Silence of the Lamb, Ted, Back to the Future, Singing in the Rain, and about every old musical made in the 60's.
This video was sent to me years ago to watch because I was feeling really crappy. For some reason I remembered the song randomly one day and I came back and I'm watching this again during the 2020 COVID-19 shenanigans because I was feeling like crap in general. Made me shut up, smile and dance both times. =) Send this to a friend!
