This week we go aboard the Beneteau Antares 11. Antares is part of the lineup of Beneteau cruising boats that includes the Gran Turismo and the swift trawler line. The Antares boats are more value-oriented and off a lot of cruising space and comfort. Ranging in size from the smallest Antares 7 to the 11, there is a boat for every price and need. The Antares 11 offers two staterooms, a head with a separate stall shower, twin Mercury Verado power, and plenty of room to bring friends and family out for the day, a weekend, or longer. While the Antares 11 is offered in both a coupe and flybridge model, we focus on the coop.
One of the neat things about this boat is that it offers a fold-down section of the cockpit to enlarge the available space when at rest. Such a feature is typically reserved for much larger vessels.

We love the ocean and boating! We cruise in our 2001 Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge, Calypso II, on the South Coast of Massachusetts and Cape Cod and the Island. Join us on our adventures - we share favorite ports and places to visit, favorite boating products, and how-tos.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Our current boat - Calypso II, a 2001 Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge:
In 2019, we wanted a new boat that was bigger and had a longer range, so we targeted 40-footers with diesel power to achieve both of these goals. With our criteria and budget, we searched for a diesel-powered Sea Ray 400 Sedanbridge 2001 or newer. After scouring the Internet we found a boat on the Chesapeake Bay which would become Calypso II.
+ Specs - 2001 Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge:
• Length: 41 feet
• Beam: 14 feet
• Draft: 4 feet
• Fuel: diesel 350 gal
• Power: 2 Caterpillar 3126 inboard straight-shaft diesel engines 350hp each
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Our first Sea Ray - Calypso I:
Our boating life started when we looked for a motor cruiser around 30 feet long. We liked Sea Ray because of its style and quality. We found a Sea Ray 310 Sundancer that met our requirements and seemed in good shape. After a survey was completed, we bought the boat and rechristened her “Calypso”, with all appropriate rituals to the sea spirits for good luck.
+ Specs - 2000 Sea Ray 310 Sundancer:
• Length: 33.9 feet
• Beam: 11.6 feet
• Draft: 3.5 feet
• Fuel: gas 200 gals
• Power: 2 Mercruiser 5.7 Horizon freshwater cooled V-drive inboard gas engines 300hp each
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Dinghy
2013 North Atlantic Inflatables, 8" 2" high-pressure floor inflatable boat
Mercury 3.5Hp outboard motor
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Where we cruise:
Calypso II is moored in Sippican Harbor in Marion, MA - in Buzzards Bay. We use our boat to explore the islands, ports, coves and harbors of this amazing place.
For overnight boating, we often head to Cuttyhunk Island, Martha’s Vineyard Island or Nantucket Island, off the coast of Massachusetts. In 2021, we plan to head to Maine to explore some of the beautiful harbors and ports of Southern and Mid-Coast Maine.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Our commitment to the sea:
Because we enjoy boating and the fun it brings our family, we are committed to protecting the bays, harbors and oceans we cruise on, as well the ones we dream about. Starting with following no-discharge rules, not using disposable plastic bottles and only using biodegradable products on Calypso II, we try to do our part to preserve this invaluable resource.

Wow amazing entry level boat for me. This one is setup right with solar panels and fans. I wanted to see what is under the table in the aft salon area. The other thing is how fast will it cruise at? Top speed and how does it ride in rough water. Does you no good if it is not a capable boat. This model is equipped with joystick Merc option and it makes docking easy. Bow thruster is nice but that joystick control is amazing. Great review. That manual bilge was something I have not seen in other similar style boats.

Thanks for watching! She seems like a great value. With her twin Mercury 300's she should cruise economically in the low to mid 30s and top out at mid 40s. Joystick really does come in handy around the dock. The manual bilge pump harkens back to Beneteau have a large sailing line up and such pumps are common on sailboats. Its a good idea.

I own an Antares 11 and I have some plusses and minuses to report. It is very easy to use and the joystick function makes docking a breeze. It handles very well in calm and rough seas - had it out in 6' swell and it was fine. Great speed with twin merc 300's. Great vessel for fun on Narragansett Bay environs. That said, there are some real flaws. First and most inmportantly, quality is not like the old Beneteaus. The company moved production to Poland and the quality is shaky. Leaky overhead, misaligned cabinets, A/C works great in cooler weather but completely fails to keep up with hotter temps (we're in RI which isn't exactly 'hot weather'). Even the toilet seat was dielivered in the wrong size. One design flaw is that the helm is very hot in warm weather - zero wind flow and no windows to allow wind flow. BTW - it is not exactly cheap either. Also, Beneteau completely eliminated ANY direct contact and all complaints/concerns must go through the dealer. It is impossible to complain about a bad dealer to Beneteau HQ

Hi, thanks for the review. I saw an Antares 11 last week in the Adriatic Sea. She had three solar panels and the owner told me that he produces more than he consumes. Though he told me he regretted not having purchased the flyer option... Now reading some other comments I can see that the one with the fly bright would allow only one (1) solar pannel which actually would not be enough to produce more than consumption... Could you find a way to put more than one pannel on that version? What's your opinion about it ?

Thanks for watching! The Fly bridge is a nice option but it does limit are for solar panels. I have seen placement of panels on the fore cabin or on an arch and top over the fly bridge like a bimini top! Thats probably the best option. Having solar panels is a great way to recharge your house power. I have thought about adding some solar to Calypso II.

“This boat has access to the head”, I hope so! Would be a hassle entering from another boat! Lol Helluva boat for $300k, can you confirm that price? Always enjoy your videos, thx!

Good catch...I priced the boat from the Beneteau website selecting popular options. The Antares line seems to be priced below the Grand Turismo line as their "entry level" brand. Starting at 23 feet, the line up goes to this 36 footer which is pretty good! Thanks for subscribing and watching!

@@CruisingCalypso I am now comparing the Antares 11 and the Galeon 325 GTO which are both my absolute favorites... Are you able to get me a quote for both of models selecting similar and popular options ? If you have that in Euro that would be great !

Nice video of boat and features however, I bet this boat easily pushes 450K- $500K. Also, I doubt it holds 153 gallons of water, that must be a mistake on Beneteau’s part.

Someone with OCD will die on this boat. Not having it centered is driving me insane.
