Just a quick video showcasing a bit of what’s done so far to my Solara I know the audio is a little doo doo lol my phone case was making all that noise. Definitely won’t be recording with it on ever again 😂 Instagram: @that_solara
That's the thing car enthusiasts should respect all builds regardless if it's not to their standards slow or non slow my car is a slow toyota hatch but I still love it I'd rather have a unique build over an overrated build that just me though
Super clean Solara man. I'm always glad someone is able to keep one mint like this. Those rubber baffles that link the airbox to the throttle body if you ever have to change them out get the silicone type. They work great and bring a little more color to the engine bay. Keep her running strong. Peace!
This is hands down the best looking Solara I've ever seen. I had a silver 03 with a navy blue interior. Someone t boned me on the driver's side and totaled it. (Knocked me out). I have a 99 now, same color inside and out. I want to give mine a new smooth paint job like yours. You did an excellent job of building a very beautiful car. I think this first generation Solara is a work of art. 😎
You really out in time and work to manifest your idea into the physical, tangible machine you will enjoy! Apply that same energy and mindset in whatever you do, success has no choice except to come to you! Love the vid.
Got an 2003 solara after high school and was my first car! And it’s still runs great till today! I ain’t gonna lie it has outlived all my other cars lol 😂 but love what you’ve done to yours! I’m looking into doin the same with mine
Nice bro believe it or not I got mine senior year 🤣 so far so good lol Keep fresh fluid in these cars and they’ll run forever lol Thanks tho man it’s pretty easy to accomplish! The main things that distinguish mine are wheels coils and the body kit lol
@@Sesshomaruwifu lmao me too this car looking kinda cool n classic tbh ngl, I’ve heard a bunch of good things about it. The exhaust sound awesome n this thing running good even at over 200k miles 🤣
@@tonynguyen9728 lmao it does look cool & fr heard they run forever I actually found one that’s a 2005 with fewer miles, I think ima go head & buy it 🤭
I had a lowered 99 se w low profile tires on for my first car (dad is a mechanic) and I absolutely regret not keeping it to this day. Love your build- need more people to see how nice this body style is
@@Jac735 I have a few rn. I have a 5th Gen Prelude, 2 CB7 Accords and a EK hatch. I want more though, but man I've owned sooo many different Hondas I like older Toyotas myself too. They don't build anything like the 90s
@hondasation I only like the Hondas people don't rock like preludes I had a 90 sedan Integra I only like sedan versions and I'm not a fan of the 94 to 01 Integra neither I always wanted a 1st gen 86 to 89 Integra but they are very rare and I was going to get a 88 hatchback accord but my ex friend was jealous didn't want me to get 1 so he didn't want to drive me a decent way with cash on top to get one I had a 97 sedan civic hooked up before sedans became popular and i always wanted to hook up legend coupes or sedans but rare and expensive but yeah that's wassup homie I'm not a big fan of newer civics though and I always wanted a 94 to 97 accord those and preludes got me into honda because I was a toyota guy before me and my mom.shared a 95 camry till I got into an accident
really slick ride my man, saw a Solara today and realized I had never seen one modded which lead me to your channel. looking forward to some more updates in the future, keep up the good work G 🤝
its real nice man. I love simple clean looks like this. inside and out. Maybe you did a lot, but it doesnt look like it. It looks like this is how the car should look off the showroom lot.
Looks way nice, man! I have a '99 SE; bought it on a 3 year lease return, back in '02 and I still have it. V-6 auto, 226,000+ by now, and she still runs like a top! It is Champagne Beige, which, depending on the sunlight, is anything from sandy beige to a mauve color. I have loved this car from the beginning! I just picked up an '04 SE from an elderly couple (97 and 94 years old). They were the second owners, having bought it in '05 and they have treated it super nice; it only has 79,000 miles on it and it looks showroom clean. So now, my '99 has a "little sister!" I love Solara's. Like you said, beautiful lines and fairly rare. Congratulations, Brother! Oh, those Enkei's look GREAT! Safe travels!
Thanks man!🙏🏼 It’s always so nice to find these being taken care of by elderly folks who like to keep the miles low My 96’ ES was from an elderly household in Cali and only came with sun damage on the paint. 57k miles and wicked smooth operation, still runs like a champ 30k miles later lol
Really clean car man, I love these Solara's they're good looking cars when you dress them up. Toyota's are slept on and get a bad rep but they're really really good cars. I got an 01 Camry v6 collectors edition that's in rough shape I'm slowly making mint again. I replaced the carpet with brand new black carpet and got wheels to put on it but want to drop it on coils first but need to replace the whole exhaust first b/c it rotted out lol, but I know it will be worth it b/c a Toyota will outlive you if you treat it right. Love your car and the passion, It inspires me.
Thanks bro, these cars will take just about any beating lol Best part is junkyards are full of them so finding replacement parts to make it clean again is really easy
Thanks fam I’ve always enjoyed the sound of the 1MZ, with the right setup you can really bring out the undertone in the exhaust note and make it sound smooth I had a magnaflow straight through on my old Solara that completely changed how it sounded. Still toying with the idea of different brands for my turbo back exhaust
@@drivenbylew3030 where’d you get the exhaust from? It sounds great. I just picked up a 2000 manual v6 supercharged Solara and want to put😅 a nice sounding exhaust on it.
I got an 01 SE 4cyl 2.2 auto about 2 months ago now with 147k, has 148k now…almost base model, only thing it has from base is JBL…it’s in decent shape, no rust and got some cosmetic issues but I love it, got 2 codes for check engine light currently…p0420 and Evap, it did have egr issues but that has been fixed with a bad vsv which is located under the intake manifold, such a bad location…just don’t have any more money to put into it right now but it runs and drives fine and a/c is ice cold…I’d love to get a 3.0 v6 5spd in the future. Nice car tho man
Thank you!! This video will and have inspired/motivated many many people. Thank you for the content and keep building bro, you touch wayy more people than what you know trust me!! Keep it up!!
Love my 08 convertible Solara but I wish it had your 5 speed manual instead of the auto. Really nice and props to your install skills on that interior. I have other vehicles and everything costs especially with a family but I wouldn’t mind hunting down a coupe with the v6 and a stick. The paint came out near perfect from the video. Not much a fan of ground effects “usually” but it works for that car for me.
I wish mine was a 5 speed☹️. Still though, it’s a surprisingly nice car, I just got mine today. I saw yours on instagram hashtags for the first time, even before I found out you were in the fb group and asked what it sounds like, it’s beautifully kept man.
This is clean bro and I’ve been wanting a reliable early 2000’s car. This seems perfect. Only thing is, I plan to road trip with it if I do purchase one. Would you say it’s good on vry long hours?
I have an '07 Solara and have done multiple road trips over 1k in it with no issues. On the highway around 80 it really smooths out and is locked in on rails it feels like. Plus, it's an older Toyota, and older Toyotas tend to run practically forever if you take care of them.
I had an awful one that eventually misfired and had tons of leaks. However, it made it from San Diego to Idaho Falls in 10*F weather, no problem. Thinking about a manual one that’s in my area.
@@jaycris1980 they’re the best though I may be a little biased 🤣 I’ve seen some pretty good looking second Gen Lara’s but that casual late 90’s design will always be top tier for me
These are my favorite Toyota Camry's. I also like the pony coupe Camry's that they made. I love your build and would love to take some inspiration from it. I have the white 2001 solara sle.
Wao nice job . I just picked up a nice 1/4 million miles solara. Runs like a champs ( Toyota) . Few dings & dents for my 15 year old son. I’m looking for some chip & inexpensive ideas. No mechanical issues Thank you for posting
Nice ride man. I have an 05 4 cylinder automatic. It was the wife's car. She got a Lexus suv and I decided to drive it since it was a wonderful car. They're very nice sleek looking car. Having a 4 banger automatic, mine is quite slow. But I don't care. It's a great cruiser/commuter and gets good mileage. Only thing I've done to mine are put 18s 245/40s and altered the handling quite well without being quite harsh. All I've done to mine is replace the dog bone engine mount. That's it. My other Toyotas have had some minor work done. Starter, alternator, valve cover gasket... etc. The Solara... virgin engine after 17 years. I plan to keep it until the wheels fall off. Solaras can pass for a Lexus if you just put a badge on.
Yoooo…. I knew I recognized that Solara. I follow you on the gram…. I got a 2002 Solara…. And your instagram pictures inspired me to start making small changes to mine.
@@thebehzat I will say the Solara has fairly similar body lines on the hood and rear quarter panels and 1MZ’s are basically a bent in half 2JZGE lol so I guess But I really feel like the first Gen Solara would’ve won more hearts with a different power train. Just like the 01 Monte Carlo, if they didn’t throw in that 38 series I bet it would’ve been more popular
I have an ‘02 5sp , white, black int , 69k original miles. All stock , absolutely pristine. Love this car. Looking for rims, maybe 18’s, something black. Can you recommend a brand? Your Solara looks great btw
Sounds real nice, are you in the SolaraGuy Facebook group? I know Advan makes some pretty cool wheels, enkei as well not just with the RPF1’s lol I appreciate it🙏🏼
The car looks great I have a 99 and it has a supercharger on it it's a 5-speed and it's pretty quick for what it is they made two Motors I don't know if you know they made a 5-speed with the 6-cylinder engine now the only made 500 of them I said they're rare they only made 500 with the five speed with the 6 cylinder they made thousands with the four-speed and the six in the 6 cylinder automatics but does not too many that have the six cylinder with the five-speed and have the supercharger on it and depending on what engine you had a year he had about 242 to 280 horsepower the stock one had 200 but it felt a lot quicker and I had the car 12 years I have other cars too I have an M3 a 2005 and I have a GTR 2012 and I love driving to Solara more than all of them could have the liability it has 160,000 miles now I didn't lower it it has a tune in it it has a cold air intake in it and I'm running like 3:20 it's pretty quick I says my 2005 M3 it's faster than in the quarter mile and that car does 13.5 so for a car that's almost 25 years old with between 200 and 40 to 280 stock you know it has more cuz I tuned it it did some work to it but it's it's very reliable and it looks really cool the car was pearl white and I changed it I wrapped it the back bumper in the trunk lid is satin black I have a big wing on it but it looks nice it looks stock that's wrapped in Black the roof is black in the front hood in the bumpers are black the only part of the car that's pearl white is the size but I do have stripes 4-in Stripes going diangally on it with red pinstriping I have black and red rims the rotors and the calibers are red the car sick it really if you look at it you wouldn't know what it was and it's definitely different I said everything works in the car the sunroof the moon roof the cruise control I said I did a lot of work to it I had to tan interior to I painted cuz I used to do body work I took all the interior out it and I painted everything black and red so everything is black and red in the car the seats the floor the roof the dashboard is red the panels on the side are black and red I said I did a lot of time and money in it and it's very very reliable and it's pretty quick it's pretty quick and I have an exhaust in it too I have a full Magnum Flow exhaust the resonators are taken out so it's not real loud but sounds like yours but I run nothing but Royal Purple in it and and I did the cam in it too so all of that it I never got it tuned I only got it tuned before I put the cam in it and it was running like 3:10 to 3:20 so I think I'm about 360 now and you got to be careful with it when you take off cuz it's front wheel drive but I love it I don't know where you're at I would like to send you some pictures of it but I'm very knowledgeable with them and I used to work for Toyota as a mechanic so I know everything about these cars and they're very reliable they're known for their head gaskets they're fronting button back head gasket but besides that the last forever if you take care
I wouldn’t say they’re that rare lol the Camry and ES300 1MZ’s also came with some 5 speed transmissions but that’s dope that you’ve got a custom lara as well
Appreciate that, just a simple muffler delete with resonated tips👍🏼 my recommendation if you just want a bit of growl/rumble without as much volume I’d do magnaflow straight through mufflers I had a single exit on my first Solara with a magnaflow muffler and it really brought out the undertone of the exhaust note. Wasn’t that loud but it wasn’t quiet either
just bought a 99 SLE as my first car yesterday and im devastated, barely got it home and the motor completely gave out on me. misfiring like crazy and it sounds like it seized.
Looks amazing man. Are those stock headlights and tail lights? Cant seem to find any nice aftermarket style lights. Getting my dad's 2006 Solara V6 convertible in 2 weeks.
I’ve got a black ‘99 SLE with 165k on the clock. Tan interior. I got it when it was about 95k. Still going strong. Just some routine maintenance and an emissions code that I needed to fix. I didn’t realize people were out there making builds on Solara’s. It definitely looks nice. Did you level it or do anything with the suspension?
@@drivenbylew3030 I'm obsessed with keeping mine looking new/factory. A paint correction is next on my list. I won't be doing any visual modifications but I'm due to rebuild the front suspension soon and I wouldn't mind dropping the rear about an inch. You have the ksport coils on all 4 wheels?
Great ride… I'm just curious what coilovers brand did you go with and as far as pros and cons problems etc. what probs did you come across with?… Thanks for your response
Thanks man I have a set of Ksports but they are the older models with adjustable camber plates. I’ve been told the ones they sell now don’t have adjustable camber plates. They’re great though I’ve been rolling on them since 2018 and have just been doing annual maintenance on them keeping them greased
Thanks bro, in all honesty it depends on the route you take If I had to estimate how much I put into the car when it was in this stage I’d say maybe around 4k realistically not including the transmission swap or routine maintenance. Maybe 4500? A lot of the work I did myself. Mind you I have a couple of the same mods from my old Solara and I’ve had this one for a little over 4 years now
I just got a 2001 sle and I love it. Just did new headlights It needs a new driver fender bc of dent but other than that it’s mint just like yours. Where did you get the bumpers and skirts?
What wheel+tire sizes are you running? The fitment looks great! I’m looking to get wheels that look something Volk Te37’s and I definitely want wider tires too.
I can pick one up from my neighbour across the street it’s an 2000 I love the car expect that this one is gold but it has like 160KM (Canadian mileage) he says he’ll give it to me for 2000$ what do you guys think? , Is that a a grabber? Btw sick Solara man 😍
Yo your solara is so sick I have one myself and honestly you Inspired me to do the same 🤙 Would you be able so send me the links for the side skirts, the bumper extensions, and the under glow. Thanks much appreciated 🤙
Preciate the support bro kaminari.com sells the body kit and I just got the underglow off of Amazon. The first kit I ever got was from spinnywhoosh.com though I highly recommend their underglow kit. Super easy to install
Depends on how you go about it. DIY with a parts car might run you a couple G’s. A shop will charge like 4-6k but you’re gonna need a parts car. Sourcing each part individually at this point is next to impossible
Sick car man! I just recently bought a 2001 Solara SLE and I love it. I was thinking about getting it manual swapped, how much did the shop charge you to do yours?
Thanks🍻 In total about 4k in labor But honestly it’s an easy enough job to DIY I just didn’t know at the time. Pretty much everything bolts right up except for the clutch pedal you gotta drill holes but that’s it Another problem is finding a shop that will do it. I know someone personally in Cali that can do it
@@drivenbylew3030 Really? I am in Canada so I don't know if they'd be willing to ship it all the way out here. But just out of curiosity how much did they want for it?
I got a 00' solara for my first car, i'm now 17, been driving this car for a year, and all my friends have been modifying their cars and i'm just getting into it. I bought a graphics kit for my solara but the rear bumper for the kit has been discontinued, so I only bought the side skirts and front bumper and been looking for a rear bumper forever. Where did you find the diffusers for your rear bumper??
They’re ksports but the previous generation. And they have eibach springs which are a bit shorter than the Ksport springs. It all depends on the brand. A lot of folks like to cheap out with MXR but don’t realize cheaper brands like that won’t get you as low without maxing out the preload and having a terrible ride plus reduced performance
@@drivenbylew3030 i get you. I picked up a 2000 4cyl 5 speed for $800 here in cali and I did cheeped out on the coilovers since I wasn't gonna keep. But now the car has grown on me and well I have started something. Lol.
Nice, a lot of the parts I get for mine usually come from junkyards. Custom stuff is easy to find in the SolaraGuy group on Facebook as well. A lot of little things I get straight from the dealer
Thanks fam it’s easy to pop it out of the dash if you’re careful but it’ll break the tabs if you get it off the door panels. Took them all off and painted them. Door panel trim was reinstalled with super heavy duty double side tape to make up for the tabs being broken If you decide to follow the same route be super careful while pulling them off as they will definitely snap in half if you’re too rough with them
