Just a little update folks, The new version of the Howard Leight appears to have directional microphones so you can hear the direction sounds are coming from, ALSO Walkers has release a new version that come standard with gel ear cups AND Auto Shutoff!!!! Both companies are improving their products! LINKS IN DESCRIPTION
any links for the new models on amazon? With the Walker's I see their X-TRM have gel pads, but there are after markets gels for both brands around $20.
@@PilotPatriot too many reviews, videos ect. Still digging up mixmatched used foam plugs from under the truck seat to pop off a few shots. I have the Walker Excel BT. REALLY pleased. I also use them when I am on the mower. I use the Bluetooth and listen to talk radio or music. I can turn the Bluetooth volume up or down and the outside volume down so the Bluetooth volume is at a safe listening level. Love these Walkers!
My walkers work great. Suppress my pistol noise very well. Had just finished dumping a mag on target and heard a branch snap. Looked around and watched a big (250-300lb) black bear walk out of the tree line, 35yd. away. I was amazed how loud the cracking branch was at that distance. They're not stereo but but a quick look around found the source of the crack. Would highly recommend.🙂👍
The walkers do have the foam wind covers. They are internal so the weather doesn't bother them. I have the same pair you are showing and took them apart looking for them.
The first clear explanation for me of the electronic ear protection. Thanks. A new shooter. Just ordered the Walkers. Now, what about eye protection???
AutoZone actually sells a cheap set of yellow tinted saftey glasses with a really nice impact raiting. They only cost $4 or $5. Those would probably be something you'd be interested in.
I got my walkers razor patriot version. They are expected to be omni-directional, but it seems like they are not. All bunch of sounds are just in the middle of your head. That`s the only minus I found. They still work pretty well with gunshots, I was mostly satisfied with them while indoor range
Thank you for the great review! Was exactly what I was looking for all day! Was already thinking of getting a pair of walkers but still had that little bit of doubt. But thanks to you I’m now sold!!! Thanks again! 🙌🏼
GREAT REVIEW . . . I just bought 3 sets of the Razor Walkers . . . .they are very comfortable. Big plus when the wife like them as she doesn’t like any kind of muffs normally.
This was super helpful. I just got the Walker’s Razor patriot version and it’s good to know that when it does warm up enough to get to the range, I’ll have good ear pro.
Good video. I have a pair of the HLs, but need a second pair. Thin is good for a good check weld when shooting a rifle. And the auto shut off sure is nice, but comfort is nice also. The rubber on my HLs also got a little tacky. It's not terrible, just a tad annoying. I always thought I must have gotten cleaner, sun screen, or bug spray on them. I never noticed a lag though. Shooting unsurpressed rifles, and at the range around others, I like to wear foam ear plugs also. Then I turn the volume up on the muffs so I can hear range commands. It makes a big difference at the end of the day.
@@PilotPatriot Thanks for the suggestion. I picked up the Texas edition set. I also bought the gel replacement pads they make for them. I never even tried the standard pads, but the gel pads are super comfortable and have a great seal with eye pro. The metal mic protectors don't seem to have an issue with wind noise, and they appear to be more durable than foam. The set overall feels pretty well made. I'm happy with the purchase.
Thanks for this review. I made the mistake of using a pair of cheap earmuffs for my very first gun range and may have done permanent damage to my hearing. I will buy the walker razor. Thanks again.
THIS is EXACTLY what I needed to see. A video on the TWO EXACT Models of interest, by an EXPERIENCED REVIEWER!😉👍🏼 YOU did an AMAZING JOB with the information format and flow, tone, pitch and speed were ON POINT! Very helpful with the Pros & Cons of both products, as well as offered features on Models not within The Video Comparison! You KILLED it, I'm getting the Walker's and I'm your Newest SUBSCRIBER! Semper Fidelis, I'm looking forward to checking out the rest of your channel content!🙌🏽
Awesome video and loved your explanations regarding these Muffs! Now I'm all set to get my Son a pair. Hope he'll enjoy their performance! Have a safe summer and thanks!
Bought a pair of the Bluetooth Walker razor based on your review from Midwy and got a smoking deal. Thanks. Was looking for a replacement of the Howard’s that are abou 6 years old. Great pair but the Bluetooth is 27 decibel protection a big plus to me.
It's not just your pair. There's a pretty bad delay in my Howard Leights. After trying them out for the first time, I felt like I had cotton in my ears and they were ringing really bad after shooting at an indoor range. They didn't muffle the initial bang, just the echo. I'll be returning them for the Walker's. Thanks for the review!
I don't think the amplified sound from the build in speakers can damage your ears, I would say the passive protection of max 22db just isn't enough for indoor shooting, better double up.
Really nice video, thank you very much. I think I’ll look into getting the Walker’s Razor headset. It looks cool, sounds cool, and it’s priced cool too! Be Safe!
Great Video! 👍 Simple, to the point. You sold me on the Walkers when you said that they are quicker at canceling the gunshot noise than the Howard Leights. Keep up the great work. Hollar if you're in the Los Angeles area. 💯
Got two sets of walkers on order. Got the package deal with the walkie-talkie. I had some Howard leight and they were counterfeit. Permanently damaged my ears. There are videos showing the diff. I ordered from midway for the walkers. You can buy gel cups for cheap as well that are well reviewed.
I'm tossing 3 pair of the Howard Leight Impact Sports and 1 pair of the Howard Leight Impact Pro because all the rubber parts, like you mentioned, turned sticky. I tried the alcohol trick but its only a temporary solution. All 4 were purchased in Oct 2014. I'm undecided if I got my moneys worth or not since I have a 30+ no name non electronic set that are almost brand new. Other than that they were great. I'm trying out a pair of Peltor Sport to replace them. Their reaction time is noticeably quicker than Howard Leight but they seem to be made cheaper. I do like the fit better. I'm going to try the Walker Razors. Thanks
Not dealing with Walker’s making everything sound from the same direction. Just got my Howard Leight’s with gel cups and they work very well. I do think the Razors look cooler, but directional audio is an undeniable advantage.
I’ve only used temporarily a set of Walker’s and they’ve EACH had a “fuzzy background “ noise that’s NOT noticeable with my Howard Leights. The Leights have been totally Legit for a lot of years. I’m considering a dedicated set FOR an HHV ‘ATE’ Bump though. YOUR vid with the ‘Opsmen/Earmor M32’s’ has gotten me thinking..
I just bought the Walkers in Tan i originally bought a pair of cheap ear muffs from Walmart can't wait to see if these will be better and from this video I can tell they will be XD!!!
I worked at a shooting range and my gripe is it takes them several seconds to come back to hearing people talk again. So you hear broken sentences when people talk to you.
Just added the walkie talkies to my wife's and mine. Love that we can communicate with each other from different lanes. A lot of time I will be shooting on a 500+ lane and she will be on a 200 yd lane. Yet I will have the spotting scope and she can ask me for a placement call with out having to trapes 5 lanes over to me.
Try some "Goo Gone' on those Walkersm, then some rubbing alcohol after...I had JBL speakers that turned 'sticky' after a few years and that cleaned them up really well. Great review thanks.
I know exactly what you are saying. I swear I can hear the rifle crack for a nano second before my HL muffs deaden the sound. I thought that was normal. I just ordered a pair of the Walkers Patriot.
I own the Peltor Tactical 100's and Walkers Razors... both are thin... I think the Peltor Tactical 100's have much better sound quality for just a few dollars more... Both are good headsets tho.
Thanks! I wish they would review hearing protection when you buy your first gun. You need premium protection and two layers. Not cool to walk into an indoor shooting range and experience permanent hearing loss on your first day. And why don't they allow silencers? That's crazy. It ensures that if you ever do defend yourself in a home invasion, you will never be able to hear again.
i have a budget night vision monanucker.. the outer body is the same as the rubber you talked about as getting sticky over time. Q: is there a way to “correct it”?
Do you think these would work okay for wearing at a Nascar race? I'd like to be able to listen to a scanner while wearing them. My main question is, does the ambient sound coming through the speakers drown out the incoming sound from say the 3.5mm jack?
My choice is the opposite. I've used the HLs for several years and they were getting a bit worn out like yours. After reading a few reviews of the Walkers I bought a pair. While shooting outside with any wind they were so noisy I wound up turning them off. The same thing happened while at an indoor range and due to the fan noise, I eventually turned them off again. I brought the HLs to that range for an AB comparison and wound up getting a new pair of the HLs. I offered the Walkers to one of my sons and after trying them he gave them back. Who knows, maybe I got a factory defect from Walker.
For hunters these have to a small learning curve. With the sound being amplified it makes things sound presumably closer than what they actually are. Something that normally sounds 20 yards away can actually be 40 or so. This is just a example. Not exact figure. Point is you will have to get used to what things sound like where to complete get the best use for them
I have the Walker Razor slims that are made for women and people who have small heads. My only gripe is that the battery cover is loose. I got it from Academy and I’m debating on taking them back and getting something else. Only for the simple fact the battery cover is loose and doesn’t hold well. I only got them because it said on the packaging that it was it was for women shooters. But my boyfriend has the Howard Leight ones. They’re okay but they kinda hurt my head after a while of wearing them.
