ActionKid, I spent countless hours walking that boardwalk all four seasons many years ago. Thanks for the memories. Remember your North Jersey Coastline trains from NYC can take you even further down for you to explore more NJ seaside towns and boardwalks like Manasquan and Point Peasant.

Our family went there in the '40's and '50's. By the end of the '60's, nobody went there !

@@2pugman It was thriving - at least at the boardwalk - in 1973, and then began a slow decline. By the the mid 1980s it was too dangerous for most people.

Thank you for this video. I grew up in NJ and we went every summer to Asbury Park and stayed at the Oceanic Inn. In the mid 80's I remember watching Bruce Springstien Play on the boardwalk and at the Stone Pony. In the late 80's the town became very run down and my parents moved us to Florida. I am so happy to see how it changed for the better, than I am going to have to plan a trip down memory lane :)

My dad is from Asbury Park, he joined the Marines and after he came back from Vietnam he was stationed at Kaneohe Marine base in Hawaii and never went back to NJ.

Interesting that Coney Waffle (reference to Coney Island?) has a sign on the right with the Coney Island Steeplechase face. Thank you for your video, Ken! I remember when I was growing up in New York, going to Asbury Park a few times a year, to the beach and amusement park. They had a scary looking roller coaster (at least, to me, when I was 10 years old), and they had a sign that said “You must be at least 12 years old or this height to ride the roller coaster.” I wasn’t 12 years old, but I was just at that height.... the man taking the tickets said I could ride it, but I chickened out 😂 The man laughed, and said, “OK, kid, maybe next year!”

Asbury Park Boardwalk is a cool place to visit and lots to do. I don't like the idea you have to pay to go into the beach area, but I am not really a beach person anyways. I've been to Colony Island which I prefer a lot better and it kind of feels a bit like Colony Island. Even so, I really enjoyed this video, thank you for taking us there, hope you had a wonderful day. By the way how did you get there?🌊⛱🧍‍♂️👍

That wasn't an amusement park per se. Asbury doesn't have one anymore. What you were seeing was just a temporary set up by an outside vendor that's only there for 2 weeks. Don't come come thinking it's a permanent venue. Except for the beach, a small splash park, the Silverball museum (pinball & other games) and one miniature golf course there there is nothing in Asbury for kids. It's primarily an adult town full of restaurants, bars, music venues and shopping. And yes, like most of NJ you pay to get on the beach.

Those rides are Not the Asbury Amusement Park - That is an annual Circus / Carnival that "plays" Asbury Park from 4 - 7 days most years. *(To "play" is to bring the amusements and "work". Its an industry Term) - I also say - *most years - as it has missed several annual events thru the blighted years. Although the commentator is doing okay - he has made several major errors in history . But what the hey ... he is doing something with his life !!! > Frank Green / Former Owner & Operator *Palace & Casino Amusements / Asbury Casino Amusements Corp. / Sandy's Arcade / 2cd Avenue Golf -/ Annex Fun Center Corp & Several other Amusement & Entertainment Locations within town . / Stone Pony / Quack Quack / . The fee beach is Five dls, But children under vertían age is free as well for séniors citizen, come visit Asbury Park you will enjoy. You can buy daily pass to the beach, or the whole sea son,wich is Three months.

No one swims on Memorial Day. Water is too chilly. The beach was always free except for during the summer - during daytime - when there was life guard protection. Charging fees looks like an attempt at crowd control. That was unnecessary years ago.

AK- the lady at Iron Whale, doesn’t realize how many ppl were watching. I don’t think she was very nice. A place can lose business with a person acting like that. IMO
