Sleepy Hollow is infamous for its folklore, movies, and pop culture. I walk through for the first time to see if it really is New York's most haunted village.
From Wikipedia:
"Sleepy Hollow is a village in the town of Mount Pleasant, in Westchester County, New York. The village is located on the east bank of the Hudson River, about 30 miles (48 km) north of New York City, and is served by the Philipse Manor stop on the Metro-North Hudson Line. To the south of Sleepy Hollow is the village of Tarrytown, and to the north and east are unincorporated parts of Mount Pleasant. The population of the village at the 2010 census was 9,870.
Originally incorporated as North Tarrytown in the late 19th century, in 1996 the village officially adopted the traditional name for the area. The village is known internationally through "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", an 1820 short story about the local area and its infamous specter, the Headless Horseman, written by Washington Irving, who lived in Tarrytown and is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Owing to this story, as well as the village's roots in early American history and folklore, Sleepy Hollow is considered by some to be one of the "most haunted places in the world".
The village is home to the Philipsburg Manor House and the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow, as well as the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, where in addition to Washington Irving, numerous other notable people are buried. "

In the early 1970's Duracell (the battery company) had its headquarters in Tarrytown on an old mansion estate, and its Northeast Distribution Center in North Tarrytown (now Sleepy Hollow). I worked in both places. At that time it was known as the Mallory Battery Company. The original Duracell batteries were all black then and didn't become today's "copper top" until 1975. In 1976 we relocated everything to Bethel, Connecticut. Thanks for the memory. 🤠

The only thing I missed was the headless horseman statue. I also would have loved to walk up past where it said Irving, that unpaved road looked very inviting.

This was great thank’s for posting this. They cancelled all of their Halloween events in 2020 due to Covid-19. They usually have cornucopia in early September to kick off the fall. They also have the Horseman’s Hollow Haunted house at the Phillipsburg Manor, Lyndhurst manor,m tour, haunted hay ride, a Halloween parade and you see the headless horseman riding around the cemetery. The legend of Sleepy hollow, sleepy hollow light house tour, story telling of the legend of Sleepy Hollow and day and night cemetery tours. I think they kept the cemetery tours only and the play at Sunnyside which is sold out. Thanks again it was a lot of fun watching this.

just discovered this channel. My life is 70% better now that i have it in my life. I just hate how hard it is to find channels and content that will make me happy. One because there is too much of it to filter through. Two because most of the time i have no idea what i want! Who knew i would love to watch someone walk around and talk for an hour? @@Ryan-on5on Here on November 1 is celebrated "The Day of the Dead." The night before, it is a tradition to place a candle in the window in memory of the deceased, and during the day the cemeteries are visited to bring them flowers. There are no costumes, no pumpkins, no parties... We leave the costumes for the February carnival :-)

Great video again. The sayings on the really old tombstones are so funny, like, " Here lies Mary, she swallowed a canary and left her family whistling a tune !" I saw a few gravestones from the late 1700's too. You can spend hours reading the sayings and looking for oldest dated ones. I wanted a tour too but couldnt get one.

Love my small village!But the traffic during October is crazy here. Unfortunately at lot of halloween events were canceled this year because of Covid, they usually happen on Beekman ave. (Hunted hay rides through the cemetery, haunted house, halloween parade, and many more, I see people coming in buses from other cities for the events. New Broadway has a lot of Halloween decorations because that street is closed on the 31st because so many people take their kids trick o treating on that street. Also, there's less decorations because of covid. Here when you have decorations is s sign that you will be giving out candies lol. So people will knock on your door if they see lights and decoration.

Great little tour AK. opened up a lot of memories for me. I portrayed Ichabod Crane on a float in a parade once, in Pittsfield Ma, back in 1956!. Complete with pigtail wig. vest knee socks. and class room. So have an connection to the story there. there are many many places in Upstate Ny and surrounding areas into Berkshire Ma. Named after Ichabod Crane. Popular personality .Thanks for taking the time and sharing.

used to attend The King's College in Briarcliff Manor, class of 71, and fell hopelessly in love with the area this cemetery the Hudson River and even Bear Mountain Memory is the only paradise no one can be turned away !!! the legends of Sleepy Hollow seem quite silly to me but the sheer history of the place captivates me

What wonderful autumn colours and a pretty village away from the touristy parts. Amazing decorations that you mostly wouldn't see here in the UK too. Those apples in the farmer's market looked delicious. I'd be lugging bagfulls away with me! Thank you for this. I'd watch again just for the beautiful trees.

Every year around mid to late october me and my dad go back to sleepy hollow to take in the autumn/halloween scenery. Theres really nothing like it. Salem is great but Sleepy Hollow just has that natural "autumn feel" to it. ugh cant wait to go back this year!!

I loved that story so much when I was a girl that when I was 18 I made my boyfriend take us for a road trip there from eastern Massachusetts, and he was cool about it and took me, we did it over a weekend when we didn't have to work. That was back in 1978 and it was a lot quieter back then than it is in this video, but then everywhere Is busier now. It's still a great place to visit though and of course, the book is a classic.

Thanks for taking us along on your visit! We love Sleepy Hollow, and go a few times a year! Next time you go, take a right down Broadway to walk to the center of Tarrytown. There's some little shops, The Music Hall, a good coffee shop, and nice eateries like Horsefeathers! Also, the grounds of Lyndhurst are fun to explore, but farther away! Right before you get to the Old Dutch Church, there's a little park with a metal Headless Horseman Statue, and a gas station with a Headless Horseman blow-up that we like to take pics with!

It used to be known as "North Tarrytown" but in 1991 it went back to Sleepy Hollow to not get confused with Tarrytown. The Penn Central used to be the trains used.

I was hoping you would go to Tarrytown, it’s Main Street is filled with restaurants and it’s on hill so you would be able to see the Hudson river and the new bridge looking down. On Halloween, the Main Street turns to street fair, and everybody goes out with their costumes.. So beautiful❤️

Yes, they renamed North Tarrytown to Sleepy Hollow in 1996 to capitalize on the connection to the Washington Irving story. Until the mid-90's, there was an automobile factory in North Tarrytown on the banks of the Hudson River which was a major source of revenue for the local area. But then the factory shut down, and they decided to use the area's association with The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow to generate tourism revenue, especially in October. (When I first visited Sleepy Hollow about 5 or 6 years ago, I walked down Beekman Avenue toward the river, and the spot where the factory was located was still an empty lot just beyond the Metro North rail lines. More recently, a residential housing development has been built in its place.) With the exception of 2020 due to the pandemic, more and more Halloween-themed events and attractions are held in and around Sleepy Hollow with each passing year.

When u pass street signs angle ur camera at them slowly, so that ur viewers can know exactly where ur at if they ever decide to visit. Sometimes u mention the streets, and it’s not clear. The town is great for a weekend visit to a bed and breakfast. Many ppl like to her away for a lazy weekend. So, showing street signs give them an indication which areas they’d like to walk by as well.

If you go all the way to the station in poughkeepsie. There is a town called Ulster Park. There is the very famous haunted attraction, headless horseman. Right in my area

The eagle statues that guarded Grand Central where scattered after that station's demolition almost a hundred years ago. At the end of this video ActionKid finds one of those eagles publicly displayed at the North Tarrytown Railroad. Another of the eagles is not too far from it's original roost in the food court at Lex / 43rd Street. One on Vanderbilt Ave / 42nd Street. Now out of the city... one in Centerport at Willie Vanderbilt Jr's Eagles Nest ... two in Garrison at one time Yankee owner Jacob Ruppert's Eagles Rest ... one in Kings Point ... one in Shandaken, NY... Now, AK, hunt down the owls from the old New York Herald.

Washington Irving's niece married one of Pres Van Buren's son. He and his wife grew up near the Reformed Church and attended it for the rest of their life. I live one hour West of Albany NY and have never been to Sleepy Hollow or Tarrytown NY. But know that Tarrytown is known for psychics. Guess most everyone is in that group? The bread and apples sure did look 'very good and fresh' You are right. Thank you for sharing this trip!.
