Today, we walked through Magome-juku in the early morning when no one was around, looking at hydrangeas.
The old Nakasendo Road leading from Magome-juku to Tsumago-juku is called "Samurai Road" by foreign tourists and is a popular hiking course for foreign tourists.
In the latter half of the video, we walk along the "Samurai Road" to Tsumago-juku.

Bonjour...

Since I discovered your channel I have been very much enjoying your videos. Thank you. This one sent me back to the photos of my first visit to Japan in 1976. My fiancee ( now wife) and I walked from Tsumago to Magome and back on a very hot July day. I remember stopping for a rest at a tea house where the owner offered us some 蜂の子の佃煮 (simmered bee grubs) he had made, but I wasn't adventurous enough to try them at that time. I probably should have. Magome still looks much as I remember it. I also still have a 1976 photo of the waterfall.

Thanks for your comment, is it 1976? So hiking in Magome and Tsumago has been known to the world for such a long time? I have to change my perception. I'm not adventurous with food either, so I've never had bee tsukudani 😅. I'm glad my video reminded you of those days😊

I first went to Japan in 1976 at the end of my second year studying Japanese at university in England, and before moving to Tokyo in 1978. My wife had visited the Magome and Tsumago area with friends from work before she met me, and thought it would be a good place to visit. It certainly wasn't so popular then. I think we met less than a dozen other people walking the trail.

@@briannicholls2893 You studied Japanese. Also, your wife recommended it. I finally understand, at last, that you walked Magome in the year 1976, which is when you were there. By the way, there were about 60,000 hikers who crossed the Magome Pass last year.

@JapanTravelWalk Before meeting me my wife worked for a couple of years at a company in Yokohama that had an oil painting club, so they used to go on painting trips to the mountains and coastal areas. That gave her many good ideas for places we could go together. A couple of months ago we were in Tokyo, Kamikochi and Shikoku, and it was amazing to see how many foreign tourists there are now. There are still areas of Japan we would like to see before we get too old, so we look forward to getting more ideas from your videos.

@JapanTravelWalk
@JapanTravelWalk 2 месяца назад

@JapanTravelWalk
@JapanTravelWalk 2 месяца назад
