Gonzo Island they do address it because the ending we see is Mulder's ideal ending rather than the one that actually happens where the monster is arrested and the two mothers abort the babies. it's like in Shelley's original novel how despite the fact the Monster kills people you realise that it was only because society lacks compassion and rejects people that don't conform to human standards. although Rape is a de-ontologically wrong offence it doesn't mean that the monster shouldn't have been forgiven and accepted after paying for his crimes.
This particular episode of X Files deserves to be immortal. It has it all, and it is a Post-Modern day Fairy Tale with a happy ending, watch this one , the whole thing is awesome. The descent into graphic novel-hood and the actors talking TO the camera and audience. And of course Scully :-)
What's interesting about this particular episode was it turned out really bad in the ending ... Mulder not happy with the sad ending changed it .. This is all in the episode .... He gave it a happy ending .... The result is what you see here ... Also of note is that Cher upon seeing this episode said later in an interview said that she regretted not doing this episode .. I believe the interview is here on You Tube ....
Ah Yes THE GREAT MUTATO!...This episode is a rare blend of humor, charm, heart, mystery and that magic that most movies aim and never reach. Without a doubt the best of the X Files hands down. The first cheer song / scene with The Great Mutato singing and dancing in the living will prop you right up with astonishment. The B&W background added even more substance to a timeless piece of entertainment.
Throughout the series I was like: 'Okay. I must resist shipping them because they have such a lovely platonic relationship and it would be great to have a series where the main characters just stay really great friends' but at the end of this episode I was like 'I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!! SIP IT SHIP IT SHIP IT!!!'
Hands down, this is one of the best television shows of all time, and this particular episode is one of their best, and the ending with Cher singing this song was the best of the best....the show brings back such good memories of an easier, happier time, and the song reminds me how good it feels to feel good. awesome.
David Duchovny said in an interview that his favorite scene in the whole series is the final scene of this episode. However the X-Files ended, that's how he wants to remember Mulder and Scully, dancing in each other's arms. I agree. :)
when i first saw this episode i was a teenager with problems and at the the end of this episode when cher was singing i had a violent episode i was in tears but lashing out I don't know why. but now i look back i think this one show spoke to me it said even a monster can be loved. i know it sounds corny but to a troubled teen whos mom is was an alcoholic and constantly reminded me of how usless i am. this one episode in the end gave me hope. thnx molder and scully I STILL BELIEVE
This is so one of my favorite " go to " places when I need cheering up. Never fails to leave me dancing, singing, smiling, and yes, even a bit tear eyed.

This is one of the episodes that proves that X-files has great range. There can be a scary episode, then something like this that warms your heart. X-files is my favorite show. Never again do I see myself loving a show so much. This is one of my favorite episodes and it always brings a smile to my face.

Gillian Anderson wanted a sex scene with Duchovny in Californication but Duchovny didn't want it cause he didn't want to ruin the relation between Mulder and Scully. I love The X-files!
When this episode was aired I thought my tv broke down. I´ve been beating it because there wasn´t any color. Only after I switched to another channel I realized the episode was in black and white...

I'm making my younger colleague watch it now...And she's hooked...It really was wonderful & frustrating at the same time waiting for a new episode each week...I remember running to the house while playing outside in the garden just to watch the new trailer each time it came! 😃 A great experience!
x-files was amazing will be forever my favourite show. david duchovny and gillian anderson were amazing. They are very good in drama acting. X-files mixed drama, suspense, sci-fi in a perfect show.
I always had a crush on Marilyn....Still do.... Not necessarily because she was so good looking but because she always went her on way in life ....She was wearing blue jeans even before the greaser movement in the 50s ... She didn't care what others thought.....Kinda like Cher ..... If you look at her early pictures she was always in blue jeans and she took a lot of heat for it .... It just wasn't feminine to wear such things .....Joe DiMaggio was so taken in by her that he never remarried.....

I love classic horror movies & this is one of my all time favorite episodes of The X-Files. LOVE Mulder & Scully dancing at the end. If you haven't seen the original Frankenstein, I highly recommend it. It is an amazing movie.
Yes, I agree, what a great episode and it came at the time when I had some serious thoughts that the show was turning crap (hey, I`d been watching it since the first series [not from the first episode, though] and season 3 was the greatest thing there ever was, and season 4 quite okay) but this episode made me a believer again : ) Okay, I know nobody asked me but this really was my absolutely favourite tv-series at the time, so... other great season 5 episodes: Unusual Suspects, Bad Blood, Patient X/The Red and the Black, The End (great cliffhanger!). shit definitely got weird at the end of this episode lol, nah it was good. My #1favorite episode is actually the one right before this in season 5, track 4; Detour. I have so many favorites though
