I lived in Ormoc in 2005. Pretty nice small city for an expat retiree if you are in Leyte. These days probably Cebu or Dumageute would be more desirable for an expat. And I didn't like Tacloban. I rented a nice two floor townhouse in Ormoc for $80/month. The landlady put in an American style toilet and shower for me. No hot water but when it is 90 degrees and 90% humidity, you don't need hot water. No AC we just used fans. And brownouts a couple times a week of course. Used to take the 45 minute bus ride to Visayas University Campus close to BayBay. Right on the beach and a cafateria with good inexpensive food. Swim, eat, kiss the honey, and then home in late afternoon. Not a bad life. Ormoc downtown had a Dunkin Donuts with half decent donuts and coffee. I stayed away from the wet market. You could smell it two blocks away :( Every evening you could sit on the waterfront to catch the breeze at dusk. When I was there you could still see remnants of the flash flood disaster. Numerous buildings completely full of mud on the first floors. We had a Tuco come in to the house at night and sit on the hand railing of the stairs going up to the 2nd floor. He was the size of a large cat. Unblievable. Oh, I should mention. When in season, the pineapples and mangos are awesome! And no sex tour - or ("serial fiance" scams) for me. Never went into a bar even once when I was in Philippines. not once. In fact, one time I ended up in a pretty nice hotel in Cebu, and within five minutes of entering the room, the phone rang. It was the front desk promoting a "massage service". I said no thanks, I did not want to be disturbed. And this was a nice hotel! I met my fiance and never touched another woman for the whole time I was there, and believe me, I had plenty of opportunities. That is the really disgusting thing about so many expats. Not all, but many. They take advantage big time. Play the 6 month fiance game and leave the young ladies hurt and alone. Disguting behavior. The bar girl thing is different. Everything is upfront, both parties know what they are getting. And to be fair, probably 90% of the prostituion in the Philippines is between the filiponos, not foreigners.
ORMOC is for peaceful expats only those who are contented with their partner .. Ormoc is a small City than Tacloban it is still improving this days hotels and restaurants are slowly investing.. the airport is still on going also.. few expats live happily here since the city was the safest city during 2017 and 18 even now it is still safe..its also been the cleanliest city.. so for those expats who found their future or soon to be wife .. see you around the city.

I have a hard time explaining to folks back home why I love Ormoc so much. Cities in Europe are so much nicer, the architecture is much more beautiful, the roads are well maintained with proper pavements, electricity wires are under the ground, ... It's not easy to explain to people who have never been there, but I'm attracted to Ormoc like a fly to a cow's behind!

I lived and studied here when i was 8 up to 10. I miss the places really bad. The memories😢, but i can see the big changes in the city. I resided at agau dulce, san pablo and cogon, we only rented and sell bbq at plaza at night. How i wish i could turn back times. The best memories of my childhood were made in ormoc
Suggest lang nako much better didto ka nag intro video sa old centrum nga part or sa Sm or Rob. Sa ulahi nana ang merkado. Dapat intro makita unsa ka nindot ang Ormoc
