I don't think I've ever seen a town with so many cars but no people. Really erie but a beautiful place.

I started going back home again in August 2016. This breaks my heart. Everything (almost) I remember as a kid there is gone. It is just like this -- quiet, no people, nothing much going on. The clock says almost 4 PM. Thanks for doing this.

I grew up in this town, amazing how it looks now. I would like to go back and visit some of the locals. Really good people they knew you on a first name bases or knew your mother or father treated you like family. After school we used to walk down town to get food at the cricket, or Frankies dairy bar. I still haven’t found a burger that comes close to a cricket burger.

I was literally just thinking about that! Cricket burgers were definitely the best, lol. Learned to play pool there in the back room. Apparently they tore the building down last year.

With so many people working from home now, there is hope little towns like this may see a rebirth. There would need to be improvements to basic infrastructure, but Pocahontas would be a great place for families. All the old homes have been painted white. It would be awesome to see some different tasteful colors. Painting these homes would be a start to bringing tourists on day trips if there are cafés. coffee shops and diners to feed them. Sell genuine Appalachian crafted items and food. Have a local music festival. I will visit here soon as it's not too far from where I live and this place has captured my interest.

Flashback 1965or '66 Christmas Parade. Gram HS Band participated . So cold the valves froze in the instriments. Rubbing alcohol fixed that though. Even 57 yrs ago I can remember some of the buildings.

Alfred Martin, this is your cousin Ernie Martin. Remember me. My father name was Millard and my mother's name was Faye. Brother, Tommy and sister Gaye. Pocahontas is really a ghost town now. I remember going shopping with mom and dad and the streets were full of people and cars. I think I will just keep my good memories about Pocahontas and not visit and get broken hearted.

There in there homes. Or out to Bluefield to shop. It’s not the kinda place you see everyone out side. The only store in the town is a newly added dollar store. With no businesses or stores, there isn’t a lot of reasons to be out and about in public in Pocahontas. I grew up in boissevain , a small town about 2 miles away. And it’s even more remote. I love the area tho. And when I retire, I’ll return there.

I did not see a firetruck or policeman,are there any in the town of Pocahontas ?
@rl2769
@rl2769 3 года назад
They do have a small police department. I don’t know what the budget looks like but I’m sure it’s only crumbs. They have spells where you see police sitting looking to catch someone over the 25 mph speed limit ( the biggest crime they can catch someone doing. ) When I graduated in 2000 I noticed a boy from school that was a year under me was working as a town cop here. Lol. I’m sure it’s a boring min wage job. Great place tho. I grew up in and love the area.
@rl2769

The fire department is voluntary and to my knowledge doesn’t even have a fire department any more. But they did years ago. In fact, in the 1920’s. There was more wealthy people here than in New York City.
