Golbahar is the center of Golbahar city, one of the planned cities of Iran and Razavi Khorasan province, which is located 35 kilometers northwest of Mashhad metropolis. The new city of Golbahar was built to accommodate the overflowing population of Mashhad. This city leads from the south to the Binaloud mountain range and from the north to the Hazar Mosque mountain range and the Kashfroud river. Around the river Kashfroud, one of the ancient civilization areas of Iran and Khorasan, especially the ancient and historical city of Tos. The studies and design of the new city of Golbahar started in 1366. These studies were based on the location of Mashhad metropolis and its satellite cities, as well as the development prospects of these areas. According to the predicted identity for the new city of Golbahar with a cultural-scientific and research function, the design of its different areas is based on this basis. The largest Azad University in the east of the country was built in Golbahar. The Universities of Science and Technology and Sanabad are also among the other universities in Golbahar; In addition, State Higher Education Institute of Skill Development and Employability, as the first employment-oriented state university and one of the satellite institutions of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, is also located in this city with new missions, including increasing the skill level and employability of the graduates of Region 9 of Higher Education. Therefore, Golbahar is defined as an academic city.
