A summer walk in Minneapolis Minnesota USA recorded on Thursday August 11, 2022. The walk starts on the north shore of Bde Maka Ska (formerly lake Calhoun). Enjoy kayakers, beaches, the pop up skate park, sailing, and walk around the under construction Bde Maka ska pavilion before seeing the twin cities sailing club. After walking along the lake we head up lake street toward uptown to Hennepin Avenue and Calhoun square (soon to be renamed seven points uptown). We then head up Girard Ave past lagoon cinema and take a look at the mozaic art park before heading up lagoon avenue and back across the north side of the lake.
Recorded on an iPhone X

As a native Central Floridian who grew up on inland lakes, I love the abundance of water in the Northern Midwest states

I lived on Fremont Street in Uptown for almost 8 years, having moved from Southern California for a job oppotrunity. Friends thought I was nuts. I absolutely loved it. Your video brings back so much memories. Thank you so much. Fate took me back to So Cal. But who knows what the future holds.

Hi Greg, that’s a huge part of why I have been doing this. Things change so much over time and I love looking back and seeing what’s changed while having the ability to look back at a period of time. Hopefully I’ll have these videos to look back on in a few years The construction is the rebuilding of the pavilion that burned down a few years ago. It should be complete by next summer bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/bde-maka-ska-pavilion-construction-begins-next-week Thanks for watching

The bar at the 44:00 minute mark used to be a very happening place. Too bad it is closed and has graffiti on the front. It is just one sign of the decline of Uptown. That area is now a high-crime area. The McDonalds shown there has been the scene of many violent incidents. There used to be an Apple store, that is gone. A lot of the stores there are gone forever.

There’s a few spots on that corner. The green room opened up a year ago and it’s a new small venue, there’s the lagoon theatre, and I’m not sure what’s on the other corner. They just redid that McDonald within the last couple of years. That block of Hennepin where the Apple Store was got hit during the riots after George Floyd and has been slow to bounce back. They are about to renovate the mall, hopefully that is able to bring the area back.

I wish he had videos like this if Minneapolis in the 50s. I would love to be taken back to that time here and see how places have changed. There are lots of great photo resources at the historical society that I appreciate

You mean lake Calhoun right?!
@walkingminnesota
@walkingminnesota 16 часов назад
With the main purpose of this channel being a source of historical record, I try to call things by whatever the city says it is for accuracy purposes. I understand there is some sort of culture war around the name. I don’t care to take part.
