i don't know why Johnny Strides only received 95K followers. This guy gives a detailed tour with verbal explanations of the different areas along Yonge street. Give this man an award. This guy is the best RU-vid tour guide.

Helloo good evening Mr J.Strides, the totally awesome 👌 most exclusive T.Os 1@ only city travelling most trusted getaroundgeneral lol. truly hoped you are enjoying 😉 yourself as usual and the weekend was savouring ☀️and getting that midtown energy brewed for another fantastic workweek. this was a good feew months back livestream I missed on your walk through downtown north as I liked to call it in "North York" and you describing the future transformation that will be a game-changer for the borough as a whole, I heard that Scarborough one is on the works as per the city considering that too...it was a good fall walk quite pleasing. cheers

Hi from West Virginia! I don't know what you did for the financial institution where you used to work, but you're outstanding at this. I feel that if/when I ever get to visit Toronto, I should be able to navigate my way around thanks to you.

i love this neighbourhood i think it's undervalued at the moment since the condo price is still fairly "reasonable" especially at yonge/finch

The houses just east of yonge sure aren't lol. Something happened around 2010, lady across the street kept listing her really nice bungalow for $750K and it wouldn't sell, then something happened and it went into a bidding war and sold for over a million. Then everyone on the street listed their homes, depending on lot size they were selling from 1-3 million, all were torn down and mcmansions built in their place.

Yeah if you dont like fish/sushi or are somewhat a picky eater you'll have limited options up there lol. I never went to any of those places when I lived there, there were a couple really good Italian places in that area but if eating out I usually went north into Thornhill or Richmond Hill, you didnt have to pay to park there either, just easier.

I can imagine they want to change this area. It looks like intersecting highways with parkinglots... Extremely pedestrian unfriendly, not to mention cycling.

3:39-Why not keep this building to the left of the screen as is, and have it be sold to a business that wants it and could use it, say for a store or some kind of start-up (as I've quoted Jane Jacobs, 'From old buildings come new ideas.')

Wow, so many Korean/Japanese/Asian restaurants, and a few Middle Eastern ones as well. I am thinking those ethnic communities are at large at North York.

I grew up in Willowdale in the 60's and 70's. It was a wonderful community with lots of green space and easy to get around. this looks like urban hell now. Ugh, they say you can never go back. sad state of affairs :(

Not even close, the high density buildings which I live in one is really only on Yonge. The half block over neighborhoods on Beecroft and Doris are still there. You really get both here, the main street with restaurants people and lights and quiet side streets if you are going for a run of bike with your kids on the weekend.
@JohnnyStrides

Yeah, the video I linked to in the description highlights the fact that Yonge Street is a high-rise corridor surrounded by suburban style housing.

Maybe instead of the cost of eliminating lanes they should take a cue from Tokyo - the area near Harajuku uses pedestrian fly-overs across Meiji-Jingomae Blvd - like crosswalks that always have a green light.
@JohnnyStrides
@JohnnyStrides 2 года назад
That's an idea but I think cost and the low volume of traffic (compared to Tokyo) would make that cost prohibitive. It would also create an accessibility disaster.
@Globalurb
@Globalurb 2 года назад
I love that area even though it's the hell for cyclists. I wouldn't call that portion of Yonge Street a stroad. There is a limited number of private access on Yonge and that future transformation is definitely going to turn that segment of Yonge into a road.

15:33-Henceforth the reason why the Danforth BIA's been fighting tooth and nail to _not_ let these condos take over most of the Danforth (especially Greektown) because most of those mom & pop businesses will be gone and would be replaced by said 'soulless corporate retail' mentioned around this time index. If the city and the province want to build housing, let them build rental apartments like the one going up at Bloor and Bathurst where Honest Ed's used to be which won't be causing any more condo gentrification.
@JohnnyStrides
@JohnnyStrides Год назад
I agree retail character on the street needs to be maintained, but it makes no sense to oppose an increase in housing density on a subway line running through low density neighbourhoods in a city that has a housing crisis. This is exactly where we should be intensifying development. The Danforth has become NIMBY central in the worst of ways.. they've even brought out the pitchforks against the bike lanes.

This group in Toronto said theyre planning on killing me because after they ran me down with a truck with my Christian group and denied me a lawyer and put me on the street with epilepsy in -40 weather then stole $50000 from my dying mother in the queens hotel and i had to bury her homeless and after I couldnt go back to work because no one would speak and the only people who do insult me everyday like the people who said theyd kill me and theres no community help and on the 18th a friend of mine was killed by a construction workers truck and he fled the scene and theyre saying i get no money So i will keep anyone who reads posted on how this progresses

This stretch of Yonge is good, but could be better. But why waste public money on something already pretty good when you could instead turn something actually bad into something good. Something truly transformative, not just marginal improvement. Many neighborhoods in need of attention and funding. So many underdeveloped yellowbelt streets with great potential.
@JohnnyStrides
@JohnnyStrides 2 года назад
I wouldn't call 6 lanes wide "good" for any major street (not road) in the city. I think the city has to rip up Yonge and replace the water mains which is when they'll be implementing these changes which makes it much more cost effective. I wasn't aware of that when I recorded the video. Cheers
