I hope this short film gives some insight into the beautiful scenery and landscape that is the Pennine Way. I was lucky enough to through hike the whole trail in the summer of 2022 it really is a amazing trail and a fantastic adventure.
Its been 46 years since I first attempeted the PW South to North, three weeks later I finished it, for the first time. I returned the following year 1976 to hike it North to South. I loved both trips and, after finishing my 1976 Hike I started my Infantry training as the oldest recruit, I was only 21 and got the Nickname Grand-dad being the Oldest one of the Intake. Needless to say my Army nickname was Grandad for the next 3 years. I told no one of the hikes until we had finished training. One of my instructors guessed I had done some map reading training and some camping but he did not believe I had Hike so far in just three weeks. So I showed him my Pennine Way Companion Book. The look on his face the next day was priceless. His first words to the whole intake was "What did you do in the 3 weeks before arriving here", most say a few country runs to get fitter", he then turn to and said "Do you want to tell them or should I" I replied "You Can, but I doubt they will believe you". He just asked to Borrow my "Pennine Way Campanion" Book again just to prove that I had done something he did not think he could do. Those few kind words got me through the 18 weeks training with a smile on my face. Not a months go by now that I am retired that I do not watch someone Hiking the Pennine Way. Thanks for letting me relive my Hikes via you Videos. Tony the Retired Hiker in Essex.
Hi Jon, just wanted to say what a joy it was to come across your videos. Such amazing footage and filming.. not to mention the lovely music you add. You amaze me how you drop your camera for shots and have to double back for it... you must do much more milage having to do that 😜. It's been so great looking back at your past videos... you have been so adventurous in your life and I'm sure there is more to come... I hope 😁🙏👌💖
Inspirational video, absolutely loved it . The fact you’d done no training, your tent leaks was a breath of fresh air. RU-vid is full of videos from content creators who’ve trained for months and spent thousands on gear . Going out on my own adventure soon , it’s good to know there’s like minded folk out there 👍🏼
Hi Paul Thank you for your comments Glad the film was enjoyable to watch. I have been filming my adventures for many years now. Most were filmed before youtube had been invented? You might enjoy the first film I made it’s called walking cape York I am only Suggesting it because there certainly wasn’t much planning. Also, I had very minimal equipment.!! All the best for your upcoming adventure . Jon
Well done Jon,👏👏 Very strong mental fortitude shown here , as a lot of hikers would have chucked the towel in when you got sick and spent 36 hours tent bound. Great video and scenery up there is fantastic.
What a journey, cant believe you caught the rona! I'm planning on doing Pennine way solo this July hopefully under 2 weeks. thank you for you video its been very inspirational
Excellent....really njoyed ...thanks for sharing....we out in Asia at the mo...and your vid stirs up the emotions of the beautiful countryside in good old blighty... We missed seeing your old raggedy shirt !!! Cheers Jon...fantastic vid
I always enjoy watching your videos, and this is no exception - another very enjoyable and beautifully shot video! Thanks for making this and sharing your experience. Very glad that you pulled through OK with the Covid. All the best from Australia. 👍
Great video as always. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Currently half way though the swcp after seeing your video last year pennine way is on my uk trail list. And the coast to coast
Wow! I think you mentioned yesterday that you found walking very meditative, I didn't realise you meant proper big treks, incredibly impressive!!! Your film making is just wonderful to watch, thank you for sharing xx❤️🙏
Love all your vids, Jon. Started with the SWCP and the fabulous dog that went with you, and the Jordan trail was AMAZING. Sounded like pretty bad man flu in this one!
Mate I hands down think these are some of the most enjoyable films out there. Id love to see more. Im planning to try to run some of the jurassic coast this year. But walking it over that distance is amazing. Keep up the good work sir.
Another great video, Jon. I started watching your videos with the ' Travelling India on Royal Enfields' video that 'The Exeter Rider' who you bumped into, recommended. I've watched them all. Some more than once. You've got a great talent for making them and I've been inspired. I've done a couple of trips, on my Royal Enfield Himalayan round Europe over the last couple of years, and have started planning 'my' big motorcycle adventure - South Bucks to Capetown - for 2024. You, and one or two others, have inspired me to get out there and have a go, and during the times when I have doubts I watch an inspirational video to make me believe again. Riding round the coast of Ireland in June this year. Keep it up, Jon. Looking forward to your next one.
Hi Geoff That sounds like an amazing adventure, you’ve got Planned riding down to the cape. And a sensible bike to be doing it on ? Enjoy your Experience!! All the best for your travels Jon
@@jonepoulter7524 Thanks, Jon. Although, I don't think I'll be taking the Himalayan, as I'll be 73 in 2024, and the Himalayan is nearly 200kg, and quite a bit more loaded up. I want to try to stay on smaller roads and realise that a lot of those will be dirt roads. At 200kg plus, it will be too heavy to pick up when dropped a few times in short succession, so I'm looking at lighter bikes like the Honda CRF250, CRF300, or the Yamaha XT250.
Great vlog John. Really enjoyed your SwC video too. You did well to carry on with covid symptoms. I guessed that was your problem. Very inspiring video! Well done. Anything else planned? 👍
Hey jon....where you off next ? Gettin itchy feet waitin to see what u do next ... Whatever ...bluddy good luck Jon .. Love your natural chilled vibe .
Great Video. I'm In Spain.. I found my old Pennine Way books I purchased 25 years ago by Tony Hopkins so watched a few videos about the walk for nostalgic reasons. I stumbled onto this excellent presentation. I was blown away that he actually bought a covid test while walking alone and feeling ok. I never bought into this con job and i hope he didn't take the jab so we can see more videos from this guy. Beautiful to see England like this. I lived in Kendal by the way so know the landscape and area well.
Hi jay Hope your trip went well It was a big under taking walking lands end to John O’Groats I am sure you had many fantastic experiences (keep walking)! Send my regards to Georgina when you speak to her next. All the best Jon
Beautiful video as usual! You definitely capture nature's beauty, very well done! I am planning on doing the southwest trail next fall. Hopefully you don't mind me asking, but do you have any tips on setting up camp and remote camping? I understood you need to ask permission, or is it allowed as long as you respect the environment? It all seems a little vague to me
Good luck with your upcoming hike of the swcp you will definitely enjoy the experience. Regarding wild camping my Philosophy is to try and find a remote spot, set up camp half an hour before night fall and break camp half an hour after sunrise and of course leave no trace. So far have never had any problems. Hope this helps Regards jon
@@jonepoulter7524 Thank you very much for your response, truly appreciate it! I am very excited haha, have been planning this for quite a while. In the meantime I am happy to follow your beautiful adventures
Really enjoy your videos. I just finished the Appalachian Trail this past year and travel when I can. If you're willing to share, what do you do for work or how are you able to take the time for these adventures? Cheers mate Madison from Georgia, USA
Hi Madison Glad you have enjoyed the video (they are just made for fun) Congratulations on completing the Appalachian trail, I believe that’s a tough trek? Regarding your question ( Serendipity ) and the Philosophy, you only live once!! All the best for your future adventures Jon
Hi Chris My best advice is to definitely hike the Pennine Way. It has amazing scenery some of the best in England. Also I am sure you would of heard the saying less is more especially when packing and carrying a backpack! All the best enjoy your hike. Jon
Hi Jon, loved the video, sorry to hear you had covid during your hike but equally well done for battling on. I am looking into doing the Pennine Way, it has been a childhood dream so I need to get on with it before I am too old ha ha - just wondering which guide book you used and did you have an itinerary?
I used the cicerone guild book and a garman x trail gps for navigation . hope you get the time to walk the Pennine way as it’s a amazing hike . All the best jon
Nice video, I failed at this trail 5 years ago when my knee gave out on day 2!! My own fault very unfit, and way too much gear. Need to have another go. Out of interest what camera gear do you use ? Thanks
Sorry to hear about your knee hope you get the Opportunity to complete the Pennine way in the future. Regarding question on camera gear I have been using the same camera for many years its a Panasonic hdc sd 600 mos Quite old-fashioned now, but a good camera in its day and still holding its own. Also carry a GoPro for time-lapse shots. Regards jon
Does anyone know when the free Wainright pint stopped ? Or maybe it hasn't stopped ? I did the PW in 1976. Wow this video was very nostalgic. How did you get the water ?
