Walking the streets of Narvik, Norway

One morning I walk around Narvik, Norway, a northern town I'm visiting for the first time. I see the community, the church, the mall, the World War II monuments, and the steep hills with their great views over the town and fjords. A chilly walk above the Arctic Circle in a welcoming town!

Most famously known in historical context is Eidsvoll for the 1814 National Assembly, which gave the country its Constitution.

18:19 the guy asking "are you gonna be quick?" to see if you wanted to go in front of him (assuming he knew he was gonna be a while) was so sweet! I've experienced it quite a few times as a Norwegian, but haven't really paid much attention to it before. I feel like it gives a nice insight into norwegians' genuine politeness, which is often not appreciated due to people misinterpreting our bluntness or stoicness as being impolite.

Norge and Eidsvold are the two Norwegian pocket battleships that were sunk in Narvik during the first hours of the German invasion in 1940. Norge was of course named after Norway, Eidsvold was named after the village and manor where the Norwegian constitutional assembly met in 1814.

The broken columns have significance in Freemasonry. The broken column image is sometimes used as a graphic for Masonic obituaries. It may represent the death of a brother of the craft who is no longer upright or has died before his time - "His work was not done, yet his column is broken."

If my memory serves me right (and that's a big if), I believe Tore Hund was some sort of a viking king or chieftain. He met his demise drowning in a.lake in southeastern Norway. It was winter and he crossed it riding his horse or horse drawn sleigh on the ice, which turned out not to be sufficiently thick. Anyway, my mother grew up living in Tore Hunds vei in the Lille Tøyen neighborhood in Oslo (back then in Østre Aker, Akershus county).

I agree, NOK 35 for a 50 cl bottle of pop is steep, but then gas stations, Narvesen, Seven Eleven etc are infamous for their prices. A tip: the "Normal" nick nack stores, found in shopping malls everywhere, sell chilled Dr Pepper 50 cl for 17 kroner. At least they did the last time I checked, inflation is running rampant these days.

@@elizabethsnazzy2034 in Narvik there is no homeless dogs... its most likely the dog did run away from its home... or one of the old people that i know of that let their dog loose cuz they "cant walk the dog", although these old people happen again and again they get told by police to stop doing it... Norway is not a country its homeless dogs... but in Narvik its different problem that there is homeless cats... what most likely happen to the dog either the owner found the dog first or police did, police would just try to figure out who the owner of the dog and give it back.
