Amsterdam The Style Outlets is an outlet center in Halfweg, between the cities of Haarlem and Amsterdam. It is the first location of The Style Outlets in the Netherlands, and the first outlet center in the Randstad.
It is part of the post-industrial zone known as SugarCity, which is located on the former site of CSM's sugar factory, which closed in 1992. The outlet center has an “architectural design based on the Dutch landscape and tradition of water and stones”.
Construction of the center started in 2018, the outlet center has a lettable area of 19,000 m², which offers space for 115 shops with parking for 1,950 cars and at least 200 bicycles. The focus is on clothing stores, but there are also stores that focus on the sale of sports equipment, accessories and home furnishings. In addition, there is a recreation zone and restaurants with terraces have been realized.
The decision-making surrounding the construction of the outlet center was not free of discussions. For example, the municipality of Haarlem was afraid that day-trippers would divert to the new outlet center to be built and thus ignore the shops in the city centre, which would be accompanied by the emptying of shops there due to a loss of income.
