This cistern provided drinking water to the people of the region for some time and was of great value and importance to the people of Yazd city. The historical museum of Yazd water was built in 1226 AH and has a long history. This building belonged to a person named Haj Seyyed Ali Akbar Kolahdoz and his family. Later in 1379, at the same time as the first Kariz international conference was held, this historical building was turned into a museum to show the high value and importance of water in desert areas and the general public can visit it and increase their knowledge about this important matter. . One of the most valuable and spectacular historical houses in Yazd, which is of high importance both historically and in terms of the importance of water in Yazd, the hatters' house can be introduced to those who are interested in history and water. The construction of this beautiful and proud building for Iran began in 1226 at the request of the late Haj Seyyed Ali Akbar Kolahdoz, who was one of the famous merchants of the Qajar era in the center of Iran. The construction of this building lasted for about 3 years and ended in 1269. The historical house of Kolahdozha is now among the assets of Yazd Regional Water Company and it has been given the title of Yazd Water Museum. It is possible to visit this historical house and its spectacular museum for the general public.

در این موزه با آثار و سازه‌های تاریخی آشنا می‌شوید که درگذشته از آن‌ها برای به‌دست‌آوردن آب استفاده می‌شد. چیزی که این موزه جذاب را از سایر موزه‌های آب در ایران و جهان متمایز کرده است یک‌رشته کاریز که قدمت آن به چند صدسال می‌رسد، از میان آن می‌گذرد. این کاریز مدتی آب آشامیدنی مردم منطقه را تأمین می‌کرد و برای مردم شهر یزد دارای ارزش و اهمیت بسیاری بود.موزه تاریخی آب یزد از سال ۱۲۲۶ هجری قمری بنا شده است و قدمت طولانی دارد. این بنا متعلق به شخصی به نام حاج سید علی‌اکبر کلاه‌دوز و خانواده وی بود. بعدها در سال ۱۳۷۹ هم‌زمان با برگزاری اولین همایش بین‌المللی کاریز، این ساختمان تاریخی به موزه‌ای تبدیل شد تا جلوه‌گر ارزش و اهمیت بسیار بالای آب در مناطق کویری باشد و عموم مردم هم بتوانند از آن بازدید کنند و اطلاعات خود را درباره این امر مهم بالا ببرند. از ارزشمندترین و دیدنی‌ترین خانه‌های تاریخی یزد که دارای اهمیت بالا هم از نظر تاریخی هم از لحاظ اهمیت موضوع آب در یزد است، خانه کلاهدوزها را می‌توان به مشتاقان تاریخ و آب معرفی کرد. ساخت این بنای زیبا و پرافتخار برای ایران در سال ۱۲۲۶ به درخواست مرحوم حاج سید علی‌اکبر کلاه‌دوز که از تاجران سرشناس عصر قاجار در مرکز ایران بود، آغاز شد. ساخت این بنا حدود ۳ سال به طول انجامید و در سال ۱۲۶۹ پایان یافت. خانه تاریخی کلاهدوزها هم‌اکنون جزو دارایی‌های شرکت آب منطقه‌ای یزد است و به آن عنوان موزه آب یزد داده شده. بازدید از این خانه تاریخی و موزه دیدنی آن برای عموم مردم امکان‌پذیر است.
