My dad had one just like this. It was one of my chores during the summer to keep the lawn watered, fertilized and mowed. He named the sprinkler "Oscar". Every night we would chat about what Oscar needed to do the next day. I kind of miss Oscar. Thanks for bringing back some great memories. I am bigtime missing my dad right now, but in a good way.

Thanks, Dude. I'm in my 60s and never saw one of these new; when I was growing up in the 1950s-1960s they were owned by elderly people and always looked like they'd been through a war. They fascinated me, like they had a mind of their own as they slowly followed the hose around the yard and made that faint "clank" as the claw fell against one of the gears. Good to see one new-looking!

This dig up some deep memories from when I was a kid! I don’t know if it was brand name or a Dadism but my dad called it the Rain Train. I remember standing so close to it that the water almost felt like it was slicing my shins. My siblings and I would dare each other to get closer to it. Get too close though, and you got hit with the metal. But I remember the metal didn’t hurt as much as the water pressure.

It's a bit too early on to determine if I should subscribe to this channel but based off of the lack of crappy music, the very nice unique use of tooling, and a wonderful antique being restored, my thumb hangs over the button in anticipation. Edit : The extreme satisfaction I've derived from watching this video has made my choice. Subbed with all notifications.

The thing that amazes me, apart from RR's endless skillset, is the incredible engineering that went into these mechanical devices. Nowadays something like this would be done with microcontrollers, I'm guessing. Also very well shot and edited. An inspiration.

"Poor Man's Sprinkler system". I bought my first Walking Sprinkler used a few years back, then once I understood the sound engineering I purchased two new heavyweights that each drag ~200ft of hose across my large fenced yard. One of my sprinklers has developed the whistle and Walker just discontinued their manufacturing. Your video gives me a complete step-by-step, so as soon as I find the valve part(s) I'll queue up your video and follow the steps for myself. Thanks so much, outstanding job from start to finish of your production.
